Realizing it was already June, and seeing that it was overcast today, I knew it was the perfect time to go shoot some pics at my favorite rose garden! The day was indeed perfect, and I couldn't get enough of these roses they've entitled, "Pure Poetry." This is just the beginning of my posts for today's roses, but I would imagine you will see many more of this particular rose! Hope you enjoy as much as I do!

i just realized that it has now been a year since Kay, my cousin, got me to start an account on flickr.... thanks, Kay! ... and it has been a fun and most interesting journey for me. this image is the first, or one of the first, images that i posted ... it was taken the day after Thanksgiving, up in one of our favorite places, gualala.

since then, because of all your incredible photostreams, i have been introduced to so many new things, and have found that i now look at the world in a different way.

when i first started posting images, about all the processing i did was cropping and some minor brightness and contrast adjustments .... and then i started playing in PSE 5 and stumbled across the "orton effect" here on flickr .... and, i started playing around with it ...

since then i've tried different processing including textures, layering, etc, and even got talked into taking some flower pictures ... ;-) ... one of the most fun things was attending "the great alcatraz flickrwalk" with some flickrfriends and getting to know them better while we wandered around "the rock" getting some great images.

because of flickr, and more importantly, because of all the help and encouragement from flickrfriends, and your incredible images, i look at the world differently, and my newer images reflect that ... this has been a fun and informative journey.

Well: I realize it doesn't sound much heroic, or romantic, but even a poor paper roll holder can acquire some photographic dignity if shot in the right way... Which I am not sure it is what I did, but can always pretend it's a recall of my experimantions with my first camera, a few years ago.

Now that I think about it again I can see a touch of romanticism in this toilet picture :D

I realized lately that I was very frustrated with my photostream; especially with the front pages of it. In attempt to stop my consciouness from driving me crazy, i'm uploading some more older stuff I disregarded previously. Enjoy. Likely because I felt that, although the majority of the recent photos on my stream was more experimental and where I am heading as a photographer right now, these newer images represent where i've been as a photographer, which is important too.

This was taken I believe in New Mexico for the balloon fiesta, but i don't know for sure. It's quite possible it was also in temecula, which is more likely than anything for the balloon and wine festival there. I really like the bright colors and deep blue sky.

My dolls are happy again. After I put everything together, I realized I needed more books. Lots more books. So, I ordered 2 bookcases to go on the sides of the large one, & started making more books. And more books, and even more books. I did a pretty good job because these are all the books I have, & the cases are pretty much filled. As I buy new books for myself, I'll make a miniature of it for The Library, eventually it will just be crammed full of books.

Tara the diner waitress has finally realized her dream and will be opening her very own diner! Tara's diner will feature the best flapjacks in the city. The decor is a retro 1950's style diner with a soda fountain, a counter, booths and even a jukebox. The diner is still under construction but is expected to be completed by the end of January. With all the great food and music, it's going to be a very popular hangout spot in Lynn's LEGO City.

I realize it's the dead of winter and this looks cold and gray but still I find it beautiful. I keep trying to capture that feeling, so you will see more like this. And if you think this barn looks familiar, yes I have photographed it before.

I realized the other day that I finally, albeit unknowingly, collected all of the Jabba-related minifigs Lego has produced so far, with the exception of The Rancor. So, I thought it'd be cool to get em all together and look at em year by year, and give a few of my thoughts.

2003: Man, I love the classics.

-For some reason that original C-3PO kicks me into full nostalgia mode.

-I also think it's interesting that TLG released a Jabba's Skiff the year before, but only included Han and Luke. I would be fascinated to see what a skiff guard from the year 2002 would look like.

-EV-9D9 is a weird character to make in my opinion, but honestly it's such a strange figure that I kind of love it. Nowadays it would probably have a molded head and not be nearly as cool.

2007: Most of you are aware how I feel about the 2007 Sail Barge set, but I cannot stress it enough: I love this set.

-Bib and Chewie are there for padding

-It's cool to see the classic Boba fig make the jump from Light Stone Grey and brown to Light Bluish Grey, and reddish brown, with more defined accents on his helmet.

-It's also kind of cool to see the main heroes jump from Yellow to Light Flesh so seamlessly, while still retaining that classic "Lego Star Wars" look. Honestly they almost look cleaner this way in my opinion.

2012-2017: Yeah kinda got guys from a few years in here

-I know most people like Modern Jabba better, but he just doesn't feel as imposing to me. He's much smaller, and honestly it looks to me like he's melting.

-The rest of the figs though. Oh man. Look, I love the classics and always will, but these modern figs, all together, looks absolutely stunning.

-It's amazing how far the faces of Lego Minifigures have come, especially in the case of Han.

-C-3PO is from the 2017 Landspeeder set.

-Bib Fortuna's face is nightmare fuel

-It might be hypocritical to say, with my love of Skiff Guards, but Ree-Yees seems like a damn weird character to have made. Mostly because he doesn't participate in any of the major battles, or really has any memorable screen time to speak of. Maybe if a few other weird members of Jabba's entourage had been made? I dunno.

-How great is that Salacious B Crumb fig though? Honestly, that's just delightful.

Anyways, not expecting heavy feedback on this one, I just wanted to see what they'd all look like compared, and it's pretty neat.

This is a pretty common bird in our neighborhood, and back when we moved here in 2009 we saw it in the yard pretty often. But several years ago, back when I started compiling photos of the different yardbird species (which now runs to fifty-seven), I realized it was the only confirmed species for which I had never posted a photo. It seems that in the years we've lived here the yard has grown more overgrown and enclosed, a change which the other birds prefer, but which has kept this one away. I realized tonight that I haven't posted a single Whale Shark photo on Flickr in all the times we've been to the Georgia Aquarium... well, that's fixed now!

I must have at least 400 photos of just the whale sharks in my catalog, most of which aren't worth posting, but I can't let a day go by without having at least one out there!

I realize I don't say much regarding my images....well actually, hardly at all. I'm not sure why that is exactly. Maybe I'm just not sure what to write. Do I describe my process...my method that brought the image to the place you see? But if so, does this somehow cause the image to lose whatever magic might be there? Do I describe the mood or emotion I wish the image to convey? But in so doing, have I steered the viewer away from their own translation of what they see?

I guess it boils down to the fact I really don't consider myself to be much of a writer, so it really doesn't cross to my mind to write anything at all. But, I've been "encouraged" to at least try a bit harder to give something.......so, here's my attempt at trying.

At the barest most basic beginning, an image captures my attention because of a shape. The shape of a shadow, a reflection, a silhouette, or maybe something more tangible. Whatever it might be that gave me that instant to pause, I try to pay attention.....to take it in. At this point, my brain just "frames it out".....a rough, somewhat finished version of what it might look like after all the other layers of process I employ have been applied. I don't know how else to describe it. And at this point I'm deciding do I capture it or move on? I know this might sound like a long process, but it's actually happening in a matter of seconds.

This is where it all starts......this is how I begin. Beyond that?.....well let's just say, there are too many steps, layers, or tricks involved to want to go into at this time. It's a process, and the process its self continues to shape the way I look at the world around me each time I go out again to shoot. I'm "seeing" as I look through this grid crafted from what I have learned and what I've been inspired by from others.

just realized November is ending soon ...

time is flying despite everything, the trees are mostly bare

and Christmas lights are being hung. Yesterday we did yardwork for hours, the price you pay for having huge trees, each with thousands of leaves. Ross did most of the hard stuff but afterwards we staggered inside and ate reheated pizza then fell asleep in our chairs. Today the sun is shining, we'll probably go out for a drive, Georgina seems to love being in her carry bag in the car. I think the movement relaxes her, she seldom lets out a peep. We listen to our story which is James Lee Burke's latest, the further adventures of Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcell, snack on crackers and chocolate bars, while watching the passing scenery and giving silent thanks for our continued good health. I just realized I'm about a month behind on this project. I know everyone else who does these is rather good at being consistent, and I know I say I'm busy, but I don't doubt that others lead rather hectic lifestyles as well.

The truth of the matter is... I like my photography like I like my running... In spurts. You have that burst of creativity and you just go with it... or nature tosses you the brightest ladybug you've ever seen and you take it . I still intend to finish on time. But like my academics, I'm more of a last minute powerhouse... take my word for it.

Sorry I haven't been around, but life is far too fantastic to hide behind a camera always... just sometimes, like evenings and weekends.

　上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。

　そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。

　大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。

　「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」

　ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。

本編

人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。

　ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。

　もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。

　二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。

　再生だ。

This is the fifth time straight in a year I've ended up in here

eating pbj's and watching the church channel nightly.

Didn't mind what I did,

I just realized that this species is different from Blue-gray Tanager that I had photographed in Panama.

Another one which I should have paid more attention. I do not dislike this photo, but I like to have several photos in different poses/backgrounds/lights/etc..

But, with 140 species photographed in 10 days, it also would not be easy to always take almost perfect pictures of all kinds :-)

I realized lately that there's a few photos from last year that I never remembered to post on here. I really only save my best photos for Flickr, so I can sometimes forget to post on here. Anyways, here's one of those shots that I'm just now getting around to posting.

Back around Thanksgiving of last year, I learned that CSX's Warsaw to Rocky Mount turn L231 would have a matching YN2 pair consisting of C40-8W #7905 and C40-9W #9004. As most of you know by now, I am an absolute sucker for CSX dash 8s and dash 9s, so seeing this train was a necessity for me. L231 is an interesting train. On Sundays through Thursdays, they run north at around 10 PM and return south anywhere between 2 to 5 AM, meaning shooting them is basically impossible. However, after a day off on Friday, they run north on Saturday in the morning and return in the afternoon in perfect shooting conditions. The Saturday schedule L231 is probably one of my favorite trains to shoot whenever it has something out of the ordinary, and this was no exception. Seen here at probably one of the most overlooked and underappreciated railroad locations in the state, the giant hill out of Dudley just north of Mt. Olive (of pickle producing fame), the beautiful YN2 duo puts on a show lugging a large train of jumbo hoppers and LPG tanks for the numerous feed mills and for interchange with the Clinton Terminal Railroad, respectively.
