My conceptual series forms around the idea of perfection. I wanted to show through my pictures the realization of what true perfection is. Society depicts perfection as being the same as everybody else and practically being a clone, but it is truly being yourself and letting yourself be happy. In my photos I wanted to show a person going through the realization and stages of coming apart from society and being happy with the ending results of being who they really are.
The photos I chose to take do a good job showing my concept of perfection. My goal was to show a girl who wasn't happy with fitting in and being just like everybody else turn into a girl who is happy with who she is and what she has. The first image of my series shows a girl in black and white with her hair down and nice clothes on but she is not happy. I wanted this to show that she isn't happy with being another part of society. The second image of the torn up picture with matches on top shows that the girl doesn't have a perfect family like society says everybody should. The girl wants to get rid of her family and have a perfect one. Later in my series you can see that the girl becomes happier with being herself, she isn't wearing as nice of clothes and she seems to care less about her hair being down and nice. The girl also realizes that her family doesn't have to be perfect like society says. That they are perfect just the way they are. The ending image of my series shows the girl smiling and in full color. I hoped to show with this that she is now truly happy with herself and that she has come to the conclusion that society’s perfection isn't really perfect.

Guiding her to the realization of her dreams, he sets sail into the vast unknown, as if eluding an unsatisfying present to embrace the open horizon of a new life. But the burgeoning love between the two will leave an irreplaceable void.

The Tarot Paintings by Jason Robert Bell 1996-7, painted in Chicago over a ten month period. Each is 6 feet tall by 5 feet wide- oil, acrylic, and ink on unstretched canvas. These paintings are based on the major arcana (the first 22 cards of the tarot). My main source information on the Tarot was the writings of A.E. Waite. His summary of the Tarot best sums up my goals in making these paintings- The Tarot embodies symbolical presentations of universal ideas, behind which all the implicits of the human mind,and it is in this sense that they contain serect doctrine, which is the realization by the few of truths embedded in the consciousness of all.
