I’ve been thinking about pinhole cameras a lot lately. This is one of my favorites from our trip to Oregon two years ago. I’m hoping for some beautiful low clouds again when we are there again this June.

A huge welcome to Daphne Schnitzer, past 5 Frames With contributor here on EMULSIVE and pinhole aficionado. She does also use lensed cameras now and again but if you’re in for the beauty of painterly landscape photography, you’re in for a treat.
Over to you, Daphne!

There are two things worth mentioning about this image that may not immediately come across (or come across at all).
First, this camera is super wide angle which means I have to get super, super close which isn't always the most comfortable thing to do with a stranger on the street. I was within a couple feet of his outstretched foot by the point I made this image.
Which leads to the second thing. The ripping snores he was emitting helped me inch closer than I was initially going to set up. He really was out for the count.
It is a safe assumption this fellow is homeless but that isn't why I made this image. It wasn't whether he was homeless or not that caught my attention, rather it was the lines of his body and how they played into the lines of the building he was sprawled against combined with the fact that he was surrouned by deep shadow and he had managed to land in this pool of bright sunlight. Would I have initially made this image on pinhole? Probably not. I think a Hasselblad would have been my preferred camera choice for the scene I saw in my mind's eye, but I cannot conjure cameras from thin air and the pinhole is what I had with me this day, so I made it work.
