A test, really - this is literally the first shot I took with the new RF 50mm f1.8 STM, taken wide open and deliberately nearer than the minimum focussing distance. The bokeh is way smoother than the EF version, to put it mildly - this isn't much processed apart from noise reduction and almost flat b&w conversion.

Day 25/366 - Books I am currently enjoying. Today's theme was reflections.

I ordered this little print from Etsy, as soon as I had decided on the wallpaper. It is framed in a silver, Ikea Ribba frame. I suppose a close up is needed for details to be seen better. I 'll do that.

This lamp is nice and functional - just poorly placed from tv watchers' point of view; the reflection of its light on the screen is unbearable...

I lucked out getting the new business class configuration on the Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Sydney for my snoozing phase of the return journey. Completely flat bed, massage in-built in the chair, big screen tv, herringbone layout of the seats so no leaping required over the person next to you to go for a wander. Very comfy flying!

My other flights had the older configuration which have flat beds but they are positioned on a bit of a slope so you feel like you're sleeping (comfortably though) on a gentle hill.

Needless to say I'm not looking forward to going back to self-funded long-haul economy class international travel after getting a taste of such comfort!

Nobuo died one year ago today (three months after he moved to Japan with us) due to congestive heart failure. By coincidence, today is also part of the Obon Holiday in Japan during which the spirits of your ancestors are invited to come back for a visit for a few days. In that spirit, here are some reposted pictures of Nobuo.

This is a picture of Nobuo on our bed in California, illuminated only by Naomi's reading light.

...took this one the last night before my return in Germany.

Well, still is a lousy weather in Slovenia. My fingers were nervous, so I have to take photo of something :) . The first idea was classic, book or paper and on the middle a ring... But that is so classic and boring, I wanted something more.

Because I like Pixar Car movie and have some little cars of it. So add the main star Lightning McQueen and Sally, the scene was steel borin... so I add two yellow roses...

I put one reading light on the north of image and that comes out :) .

I think that is interesting. Now, I would like to know if you like it or not :) .

My first flight on Boeing's brand new (in 2012) aircraft type, the 787-8 Dreamliner. First commercial operator of the plane is ANA All Nippon Airways. ANA mostly deploys the aircraft on some domestic and regional routes and the first long haul to Frankfurt from Haneda airport. Some of the domestic routes go, amongst others, to Hiroshima and Okayama. We, my hubby Jelle and our friend Adam, decided to fly on the OKJ sector. Adam chose Business class while Jelle and I settled with Economy class.

The aircraft is amazing, it instantly became my favorite aircraft type! The large windows are awesome, as are the electronic blinds that darken the cabin but still allow to look outside! The cabin is very spacious and gives a roomy feeling and the noise level was very low.

A very pleasant flight with friendly service from the NH cabin crew ("your first flight on the aircraft?").

Emirates Business Class seats (at least those on the A380) feature their own minibar, stocked with some refreshments. You can also see the wireless remote control in it's cradle and the personal air vents and reading lights unit.

The flight attendant call button in the overhead panel where passengers also control the air vents and/or reading light.

The 787 keeps the tradition of personal air vents... thank you from all of us... the lights have a cool factor too, they make me appreciate the 21st century.

Maggie in seat 8A. They provide a nice large pillow, duvet, sweater, slippers, individual reading LED lights, motorized chair (that can lie flat) with lumbar support. The headset is a Sony noise-cancelling version, the first time I ever saw it provided on a plane.

This photo was taken before takeoff which was around 11:00 Chicago time (12:00 Toronto time).
