Ravens are a constant presence at the Grain terminal here. It is difficult to get a shot that doesn't look like a Raven-shaped silhouette. This one flew by very close and banked at just the right moment so that the brilliant sunlight caught it for an instant. This image shows the characteristic wedge-shaped fanned tail and the "beard".

One of the opportunists at the Falcon diner. These ravens make the daily rounds, hoping to get a piece of the pigeon action.

This is Sculpture 62 by the artist Ayad Alaqaragholli, from Iraq.
The artist says: "Ravens appear in myth and scripture worldwide, even as the first bird mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, where they symbolise divine care and grace. And the raven , of-course, was a pivotal character in Edgar Allan Poe's mysterious poem 'The Raven' (1845). The chair represents the place of human dwelling, a universal place of where life is lived."
Here at Bondi, the raven is accompanied by Miguel from Brazil.

Quite the entertainer with little fear of humans. This raven brandishes a twig and plays with it for awhile while I watched just a few feet away.
Sharp intellect and beak. Thoughtful and vocal (only when necessary). Little Raven (Corvus mellori).

Raven Crag is such a popular beauty spot, hopefully it will remain so for a long time to come.. although it narrowly avoided disaster earlier this year when thoughtless campers lit a fire on the crag overlooking Thirlmere. Luckily it was dealt with in time by the fire service before too many trees were burnt.
We don't get too many ravens in the area I live in, mostly crows. This one didn't look like the usual crow so I grabbed my trusty sidekick the Nikon P1000 which I use a lot as a telescope and then I'm stuck with that as my camera (in the moment). Anyway, I thought this raven was beautiful, the way he moved, preened and reflected the light. Raven.

Ravens are highly intelligent. Some studies have shown that Ravens can use tools. They are very social but do not stray into their territory. As a Photographer they can alert you to the presence of raptors and their alarm call sends all the wildlife running for cover.
They can also be really annoying as if you set the alarm for 4am and are waiting for hours for an image of an Eagle or Sparrowhawk they can harass them endlessly until they drive them away. Amazing to watch their behaviour.
While camping along the Strzelecki Track in remote South Australia, we saw a large number of Black Kites (Milvus migrans) soaring above us, as they do while hunting for food. As we watched, an Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides) arrived among the kites and began attacking them one by one, pushing them to rise higher and head further north and east. After showing the kites who was boss, the raven descended, flying above our heads and perched in a dead tree several hundred metres away. Given the condition of the tail feathers, I doubt this was the raven's maiden 'dogfight'.
Common ravens (Corvus corax) are one of the most ubiquitous birds on Earth, inhabiting nearly all of the northern hemisphere.
As one of the most clever members of the clever order of corvids, ravens are renown for their intelligence in a number of different cultures. The Navajo/ Diné include them in numerous legends as tricksters. Many of their stories involve both ravens and coyotes, with ravens often getting the best of coyotes, out "clevering" them. The dark color of ravens is thought to represent magic and transformation. Ravens are often bearers of spiritual messages.
This raven was keeping track on all 2 visitors to the Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge, with the headquarter building behind it.
