Cutleaf coneflower and slow motion bees
Filmed last summer in a local park. Using a Sony RX10 iv using HFR [high frame rate] shooting at 250 frames per second. A few clips were time remapped in After Effects and edited in Premiere Pro.
A reggae influenced track, a first outing for ujams virtual bass, I sampled my Yamaha SG1000 to make the guitar part along with custom made samples from the Rakit Metal Drum Synth. It's a lot more fun using your own samples than other peoples. All put together in Cubase.

The Shreveport Waterworks Pumping Station, also known as the McNeil Street Pump Station, is a historic water pumping station at 142 North Common Street in Shreveport, Louisiana. Now hosting the Shreveport Water Works Museum, it exhibits in situ a century's worth of water pumping equipment, and was the nation's last steam-powered waterworks facility when it was shut down in 1980.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1982

HMS Victory, a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line, holds a storied place in naval history. Commissioned in 1778, she has served for an impressive 246 years as of 2024—making her the world’s oldest naval vessel still in commission1. Her most iconic moment came during the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805, where she served as Horatio Nelson’s flagship. Let’s delve into her remarkable story:
Construction: Ordered in 1758, HMS Victory was laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She was designed by Sir Thomas Slade and based on the outline plans of HMS Royal George1.
Trafalgar: At Trafalgar, Victory led the front column and played a pivotal role. Despite being badly damaged, she fought valiantly alongside Nelson. Tragically, Nelson was shot by a French musketeer during the battle and died shortly before its end2.
Legacy: After 1824, Victory served as a harbor ship. In 1922, she found a new home in a dry dock at Portsmouth, England, where she has been preserved as a museum ship. Since October 2012, she has also been the flagship of the First Sea Lord13.

“...No. He will resist us, but put him under constant mental bombardment regardless. It will cause him to feel hopeless and isolated...I want him where he will pour affection out to a replacer of the she-spy even if he knows it IS a replacer.”
“It will be done, O Queen.”
After Reldan killed that terrible worm, I felt free. The trauma wasn't so bad once I knew it could never be repeated. I still felt kind of helpless, though. Especially after fainting for the first time in my life...embarrassing. I'm really glad Reldan's not one of those stupid male chauvinists, if he was he'd probably be gloating over how useless I've been thus far. Not anymore! I politely took my bag back from him. You have to start somewhere. I then felt a compelling urge to get away from the burned worm corpse...it reminded me of my ordeal. I turned away and started walking and a second or two later Reldan and that weird green girl he has trussed up caught up with me.
“Bad memories?” Reldan asked.
“I don't want to talk about it,” I replied, “I'm just so glad to be back with you.”
“I understand.”
He then, at my request, related the story of all that happened since we were separated, with me occasionally asking questions. As he talked, we began to walk up a gentle incline in the cavern, and the bones strewn about began to dwindle in number. As we turned a corner, I was blinded by the sun as it peeked through the cave entrance, but what a sight for sore eyes (literally!) it was! After a while my eyes became accustomed to the bright light, and I looked around the vast landscape that stretched before us.
“This doesn't look anything like where we were before...” I gasped.
“I traveled quite far to find you,” Reldan replied, “and the land changed again.”
Did it ever! A sandy desert spread out as far as I could see, drab in itself but made beautiful by thousands of glowing orange mushrooms that dotted the landscape. As we walked away from the rocky outcroppings surrounding the crystal cave, I began to notice thorny green roots curving and twisting in and out of the ground.
“Everything here is edible, and those roots are an excellent water source,” Reldan interrupted his own story to explain excitedly, “We could survive here for weeks!”
I was of course delighted, as food was always a source of anxiety and not having to worry anymore...well! The landscape was also lovely to look at, but the promise of easy food was hard to beat.
Reldan then got to what I supposed was, for him, a rather uncomfortable part of his story: why he had been forced to restrain Djiimi. Apparently she had tried to make advances to him-very aggressive ones-and he, not wanting to cheat on me (we're not even married!), had to resort to some rather drastic measures...
He was very pained about the whole matter, but I assured him that I trusted his judgment.
Wow...he was alone with that (admittedly) attractive mutant scum and he resisted her to that point for my sake when I could have been dead?! What a great guy!

Saguaro cacti seem to be dying off at a higher rate in recent years. The cactus on the extreme right and in the center show 2 phases of this process.
Below is a post from the The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, next door to the Saguaro National Park West in the Tucson Mountains. This is a great place to visit.

"There has been a lot of talk in the news lately about a mass saguaro collapse caused by heat and drought. This claim, and the media storm around it, requires a bit of unpacking.
The story begins with the fantastic research team at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix who have been surveying the saguaros on grounds at their garden while also seeking information from community members who report damaged or fallen saguaros. What they have found is that the intense heat of years like 2020 and this summer of 2023 are creating detrimental conditions for saguaro survival. Specifically, the intense heat is causing the flesh of the plants to become soft, creating the conditions for structural collapse. High night-time temperatures prevent efficient photosynthesis (cacti mostly photosynthesize at night), while drought stress weakens these plants, making them more susceptible to other issues like disease.
Urban vs Wild Saguaros
You can imagine that these factors will be particularly prevalent in a place like Phoenix where the urban heat island effect is extreme, and where rainfall is lower than the Tucson area. An inability to tolerate extremes of sunlight and temperature will be even more pronounced in plants which have been recently transplanted and are growing in environments that don’t mimic where they naturally occur. In other words, a bare yard covered in a layer of gravel with pavers and block walls, or a roadway median between four lanes of blacktop, will be challenging areas for saguaros to survive extreme heat waves.
The Sonoran Desert is in the midst of a long-term drought marked by a vicious cycle of unreliable rainfall, increased temperatures, and faster loss of moisture because of the higher temperatures. Though our desert plants are adapted to drought, some of them may reach a point of no return, and our ecosystems may become less productive due to the extreme conditions."
Measuring the Hubble constant, the rate at which the Universe is expanding, is an active area of research among astronomers around the world who analyze data from both ground- and space-based observatories. The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope has already contributed to this ongoing discussion. Earlier this year, astronomers used Webb data containing Cepheid variables and Type Ia supernovae, reliable distance markers to measure the Universe’s expansion rate, to confirm the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s previous measurements.
Now, researchers are using an independent method of measurement to further improve the precision of the Hubble constant — gravitationally lensed supernovae. Researchers from different institutions around the world are leading this effort after Webb’s discovery of three points of light in the direction of a distant and densely populated cluster of galaxies.
This is an image from Webb’s NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) of the galaxy cluster PLCK G165.7+67.0, also known as G165, on the left shows the magnifying effect a foreground cluster can have on the distant Universe beyond. The foreground cluster is 3.6 billion light-years away from Earth. The zoomed region on the right shows the supernova H0pe triply imaged (labeled with white dashed circles) due to gravitational lensing.
This field was selected for observation due to its high rate of star formation of more than 300 solar masses per year, an attribute that correlates with higher supernova rates. SN H0pe is one of the most distant Type Ia supernovae observed to date. The measured Hubble constant value matches other measurements in the local Universe, and is somewhat in tension with values obtained when the Universe was young. Future Webb observations in Cycle 3 will improve on the uncertainties.
