I got out to Turtle Pond between rains. Most of the birds must have been sheltering somewhere, but there were three Pied-Billed Grebes out fishing.

Autumn rains can sometimes be the harbinger of the cold weather to come. The air temperature drops, the wind blows cold gusts, and the leaves are driven from the trees. But the cooler air temperatures mean the raindrops tend to linger on the deep veined fallen leaves. Perfect for getting close and capturing the magic. We may not want the season to end, but we'll appreciate the beauty it brings every step of the way. I've added a touch of exposure in the middle, but this is otherwise straight from camera. Heavy rains flooded the trails at Andrew Molera Beach State Beach -- no access to the beach. Point Lobos State Reserve is closed due to storm damage, and access is limited to many other places along the Central California Coast. More rain through tonight, then we have a break in the Pineapple Express. We may get back to average rainfall amounts this week :-)))
Happy Monday! Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

June...a strange month...it begins with warm..dare I say 'hot' sunny weather...hmmm...I might need another summer dress!I so...I buy the required dress....and...the weather decides that cooler temperatures and thunderstorms....and torrential rain (on and off...you'll never know when it's coming) is what we need...aaaagh!! a typical British summer!!
we needed some rain for the garden....but...ENOUGH NOW! our Peonies have collapsed from so much rain :-(

Very true at the moment, but then what do you expect for a UK Bank Holiday weekend?
Wonder how many times this weekend Staycationers will utter the immortal words 'next year we are going abroad!'.
Not sure what species of Hummingbird this is, apart from it being female. They normally stop flying and seek shelter in heavy rain, so didn't manage many shots like this in Costa Rica.
Off to Mull at the end of next week. Mindset will be expect rain everyday - so anything else will be a bonus!
Have already booked an appointment with the doctor for trench foot for when I return :-).
After good rains one suddenly sees stuff you never see otherwise, like this fungus.
Think its called Angel Hair Coral (Pterula subulata) but not sure.
Saturday morning walk on our way to the Petfood Shop to pick up some dried lambs lung which the dogs love as treats,
Although there are 50mph southerly winds, we managed to complete our walk before the rains came
If there is such a thing as bad weather, it comes but not to stay. It will pass. We just hang in there.
What gorgeous landscapes Mongolia has...my photographs can't do them justice, one has to be there to appreciate them.

standing on the little community-built bridge over the creek.
the rains have made this little creek impassable since the council removed the old bridge, just downstream a little from here - according to the local rag the original bridge was never sanctioned and since they've started a little Creek maintenance scheme removing unwanted (non-native) trees and planting a whole bunch of natives (complete with ugly plastic green weather-protectors for the poor little saplings) they decided that the old bridge was a safety hazard (really only because nobody had done an WHS evaluation before putting it in place I'd guess).
Anyway, so someone's obviously decided to put another temporary measure in. It's pretty sturdy with star-pickets on all 4 corners. I like that Biscuit was happy to follow me across the plank rather than jump or wade through the creek to join me on the other side, Saxon was happy to splash across the creek :-)
I planted a vegetable garden this year, and my first sunflower began blooming yesterday. :) The rains stopped this morning, so I grabbed my macro & went out to take a few shots. Thanks for looking!

Ischia Ponte, la pioggia non spegne la voglia di vacanze
Ischia Ponte, the rain does not extinguish the desire for holidays
Ohlone Wilderness, CA
All the Rain we had in December filed up all the ponds in the Wilderness. There is even Newts swimming in the water. All the little creeks still have running water, which means the ground is saturated and ready for more. I hope we get more Rain soon, because this place in April and May should be really awesome.
Here is a shot exactly form exactly year ago. Its very different.
