Just outside of town . . . a country lane that actually goes back maybe a 1/2 mile to a remote rural house on a hill. This was once a Rock Island railroad line that folded a number of years ago.

As kids, we use to hike back into this area to swim in the Winnebago River, hunt and get into mischief!

End of story . . . LoL

Looking down a newly restored rail line that had been partially dismantled for a number of years. A newly restored railroad crossing is visible far down the line. All new tires have been installed along this portion of the track.

Lonesome railroad tracks

Shenandoah Valley, Virginia

I had no idea. Still relevant today if less romantic these work horses move product across nations, bringing me shtuff from all over the world. (K-She 95 still lives on in my head 'shtuff')

I was politely informed that this is port of Tacoma property and as such photography was illegal so I didn't get the night shot I wanted, but this'll do. :)

This view from the entrance to the Pier 24 photography museum combines the in-service boats of the San Francisco Fire Department with the historic railroad tracks of Pier 26.

From the Pier 24 website at pier24.org/the-building/ : "As visitors arrive at Pier 24 Photography, they enter through the historic port archway, gaining access to San Francisco’s waterfront. Originally designed to load and unload goods to and from railcars and ships, the last remaining waterfront portions of the State Belt Railroad’s tracks, which span the length of Pier 26, are viewable from the entryway. The original drawbridge connecting the Pier 24 annex to Pier 26 also remains in place above these railroad tracks."

Jefferson County, Nebraska. This is Fairbury’s old Rock Island Railroad bridge, which spans the Little Blue River at the Fairbury dam site. It is Fairbury’s newest fitness trail, built in 2006. Beautiful.

The White Pass and Yukon railroad was built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush and was the only means of reaching the goldfields. Now it is used as an excursion trip that allows its riders to view the magnificent wilderness around Skagway, and through the White Pass in Alaska

Oregon Columbia Gorge Hood River, even tho the hazy clouds were arriving at dusk hiked up west cliff to see this amazing view of lush orchards & forest on a small cove finger portion of the Columbia River ..the wind was whipping holding onto a rail with a 500+ ft. drop below. Worth it to see the view!

Thanks for your visit & comments!

These four railroad cars were temporarily off the tracks for some unknown reason but the looming tracks in the distance just felt right here. Processed in a three part bracketed image and merged together. I like the way this monochrome image tunred out. The light on the top of the cars really provided a silver streak and accentuated the whole capture. Hope you all enjoy.

The long closed train station in Curtis, NE. seems ripe for restoration but for now is being used for storage.

"if God had meant for us fly,he wouldn't have created railways..."

A setting sun down the tracks, with another promise of

yesterday.

building a wall around the beacon of Democracy, targeting people because of their religion and banning them from entering the country, repealing the law that separates church and state, insulting multiple leaders of foreign countries and outright threatening another, all the while beating the drum of nationalism declaring us to be 'the greatest country on Earth'. That is a dark and dangerous path and I'm asking for the entire world to stand up and take notice and help us oust this nutter before irreparable damage is done. The great blue dot in space is a tiny place filled with diversity and we all need one another. this is where I drop the mic, but you can't see it because it's in print...... :-)

on a lighter note, click the link, you'll be glad you did. (your welcome) :-)

Thanks to Skeletal Mess for the texture.

We crisscrossed this railroad track several times and at one point we saw where the bank was held in place by railroad ties in horizontal position and I couldn't help but wonder what happened when those railroad ties disintegrated....

I will be so much more excited about my photos when the green leaves come back! LOL Tan and grey can get old after awhile I think!

Have A Too Good To Be Kinda Of Tuesday Friends ..

Somewhere in Nevada is not as enticing as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, yet I found the trees lining the Truckee River to be quite beautiful in their elegant fall attire. There's not much else happening in this remote spot--passing trains are definitely the highlight of each day--contemplating one's navel is also high on the list of rewarding tasks.
