In this photo I captured Light Pollution from Anchorage sandwiched in between the milky way and the glow of the northern lights to the right.
The reason for my visit to Franklin Park (previous post) was to catch this classic Iowa Pacific excursion train passing through town. It was a thrill to see these vintage "E Unit" diesel locomotives, nicknamed "Covered Wagons," in prime condition and operation. Thanks to Mark LLanuza, "The Wagon Master," for the heads up!

Or...take 3, of the same scene! Again, this is the Mississippi River, as taken at Trempealeau, Wisconsin. The sunset isn't that dramatic, but I thought it was pretty with the mountains in silhouette, and the river shimmering in the light! Hope you enjoy!

The sun rises over the main railroad tracks that head out of Windsor, Ontario on their way to Toronto. Several times a day, Canada’s national rail service Via Rail, takes passengers back and forth to Canada’s largest city.
It was a very short, but brilliant, color season in northern New Hampshire this year. Everything went from blah to spectacular in a few days.
Oh, the shots you can get while sitting at a railroad crossing! (Provided you are quick on the draw fumbling your iPhone out of a stuffed purse...)
On a warm, sunny afternoon, these long-retired railroad cars created a composition punctuated by strong colors and soft light.
Taken across from the Flying J truckstop in Willard Utah. The Wasatch Range is right and out of sight the Great Salt Lake and Willard Bay are about a half mile to the left. A light snow over night left everything white topped.
A stretch on CSX railroad track at mile marker 69 at Point of Rocks, Maryland. #tracks #RailroadTracks #CSX #PointOfRocks #MileMarker69
Curve ahead, this is a RR track that is so busy with freight trains it amazes me I caught it when one on those 100 car trains wasn't on it!
You all have a wonderful Thursday!
Thank you for you visit and support!
An old building in the west part of town, constructed of my favorite “giraffe stone” that was so popular around here years ago....did I mention that it’s on Route 66?
Railroad tracks stretch around the bend, disappearing into rural Autumn countryside.

Surrounded by Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks (Dendrocygna autumnalis), a feral Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata) waits inside the railroad tracks on a foggy morning at Hermann Park, Houston, Texas.
For the best. I was on the way home from work this evening and started to take notice of a possible nice sunset and some fog rolling in. I was hoping to reach an old house and get the fog with it but traffic took care of that. Then I thought about this place...
Haven't we all wanted to do exactly this? Look back to a warmer, more beautiful time in the past? If only we had that magic mirror...or maybe just a dream....

Well, fall is pretty much over in my part of the world as we just got nearly 10 inches of snow this past week. It now goes down for the snowiest October on record. Not really the kind of records I'm into. I guess I need to embrace it so they tell me.
An old quarry, white fence and train tracks...an unusual combination for a rather beautiful view. Maybe not that unusual after all.

Not the best technically perfect picture, seeing I took it with my iPhone. But, when I saw this one my way to work I had to stop and take a picture. It was too beautiful to let it go to waste.
