Willington wetlands

Seldom seen but often heard, this medium-sized rail lives in marshes across much of our continent. They forage for food by probing in mud or shallow water, picking items from ground or from plants, or stalking small creatures and capturing them with a swift thrust of the bill.

Like other rails, the Virginia Rail prefers to escape danger by running through marsh vegetation rather than flying. If forced to fly in order to escape it will only fly a short distance.

While photographing shorebirds during a recent outing I was surprised when I looked up and saw this Clapper Rail walking across a nearby puddle. If that wasn’t enough it gave me a nice fluff up before disappearing back into the reeds.

Overview

The Ribblehead Viaduct, also known as the Batty Moss Viaduct, is located in North Yorkshire, England, and carries the Settle-Carlisle Railway across Batty Moss. It is notable for being the longest and third tallest structure on the railway line, standing 104 feet (32 meters) above the moor with 24 magnificent arches. The viaduct was designed by John Sydney Crossley, the chief engineer of the Midland Railway, and construction began in 1869, with the structure completed by 1874 and opened for passenger services in 1876.

I was just taking Bella on her walk and I thought I would see what a hand rail would look like through the lens and then I spotted the fly .

Stepping out of the marsh for great views.

I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D

Smaller and distinctly slimmer than the Moorhen, the Water Rail is a fairly common but highly secretive inhabitant of freshwater wetlands. Difficult to see in the breeding season, it is relatively easier to find in winter, when it is also more numerous and widespread.

Rail bridge over the river lerry, Ynyslas, Ceredigion, Cymru/Wales, UK

Hot off the press, so to speak, this is an image of the famous Forth Bridge taken this morning about 40 minutes before sunrise. Does that count as a night shot? It certainly felt like it.

I was very pleased that conditions were good for the sunrise this morning because I had to make a compromise decision between shooting the Perseid meteor shower of getting up early for sunrise. I’d have been most upset If the sunrise was poor having decided to skip the meteor show. Once upon a time I would have been game to stay up all night shooting a sunset, starscapes, meteor shower and finish off with a sunrise to boot but those days are behind me. So I let somebody else enjoy the night show whilst I was warmly tucked up in bed, albeit with a 3am alarm call, which when I think about it was actually when the Perseids were supposed to be at their peak. Perhaps my logistical planning needs some work. Oh well!

The Virginia Rail patiently waits the arrival of its partner from the other side of the trail. It was nice to be able to fire off a few pictures before they resorted to the marsh

I finally caught up with the elusive Water Rail

Taken at Sandy Camp Rd Wetlands.

Lewin’s rail is a highly secretive and seldom observed bird. It prefers permanent, fresh-to-saline wetlands surrounded by dense vegetation: ie swamps, lakes, and wetlands as well as artificial wetlands surrounded by thick vegetation, where they forage in shallow water around the water's edge. Lewin's rails feed mainly on invertebrates and occasionally bird eggs and frogs.

Must be British rail :@) or is it SpaceX?!?!?!

------------------------------ JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE!

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so they might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH! Because JESUS LOVES YOU! ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

October 05, 2017. Sand mine Jaworzno Ciężkowice, Poland. The unique photo of our steam locomotive - it is a private property of "Towarzystwo Ochrony Zabytków Kolejnictwa i Organizacji Skansenów w Pyskowicach", in the sand field in Jaworzno Ciężkowice. Tat day a German group of DB Schenker company employees has paid for replacement of diesel to that steam locomotive Ty42-24 for two days of working in that sand field.

Probably my better banded rail photo as it shows a bit more detail. As I was "walking" on the rocks this bird appeared some 30m away from where I was. Luckily I managed to get a shot before it disappeared again!

Looking for the light rail train in Seattle.

I went out early today not thinking I'd get anything. Boy, was I wrong. I got lots of stuff in a very short time, including this Clapper Rail, who seemed to prance back and forth in front of me and pose with ruffled feathers!

The Forth Rail Bridge, South Queensferry, near Edinburgh, Scotland

At Fort Fisher. An amazing experience sitting near a very small drainage pond and watching a few Clapper Rails and 6 or 7 chicks, hanging near the edge in the tall grasses. I wondered if I should bother trying to get a decent shot. Within minutes the chicks were swimming across the little pond and I saw one of the adults catch a fish. Wow!

WSOR rail train is shoving into the siding at Landmark Services in Whitewater, WI. . The next day they will unload the rail for the track upgrade project on the Waukesha Sub. It was a good day with Jordan and Josh. Also Riley at the throttle.
