A Pintail prepares for landing

I've been drivin' all night

My hand's wet on the wheel

There's a voice in my head

That drives my heel

It's my baby callin'

Says: I need you here

And it's a half past four

And I'm shifting gear

When she is lonely

And the longing gets too much

She sends a cable

Coming in from above

Don't need no phone at all

We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

We've got a wave in the air

Radar Love

The radio's playing some forgotten song

Brenda Lee's "Coming On Strong"

The road has got me hypnotized

And I'm speeding into a new sunrise

When I get lonely

And I'm sure I've had enough

She sends her comfort

Comin' in from above

Don't need no letter at all

We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

We've got a line in the sky

Radar Love

No more speed, I'm almost there

Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care

Last car to pass, here I go

And the line of cars drove down real slow

And the radio played that forgotten song

Brenda Lee's "Coming On Strong"

And the newsman sang his same song

One more radar love is gone

When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough

She sends her comfort, coming in from above

We don't need no letter at all

We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

We've got a line in the sky

We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

We've got a thing that's called

Radar Love

Soon after this was taken I was ambushed by a large herd of cows

In Svalbard I did a fantastic hike to and across the Foxfonna glacier. Our guide was the very talented Emily, equipped with rifle (apparently World War II vintage and very heavy) in case we encountered any polar bears. This was near the start of the hike, passing the EISCAT radar station, looking like something from the Cold War.

A disused radar tower near Coalhouse Fort, East Tilbury.

There is quite an array of disused/derelict military building nearby: Coalhouse Fort, originally built in the 1860s and added to over time: a minefield control tower from WW2, a smaller detached battery, etc. Directly across the River Thames is a largely similar fort, Cliffe Fort; unlike Coalhouse, which is open to the public, Cliffe is derelict, inaccessible and largely hidden, although a small part of it can be seen to the left of the tower. A third fort, Shornemead, ruined, is a few miles upriver.

This is a WW2 radar tower disguised to look like a water tower, near Coalhouse Fort.

There are certain subjects that just ask to be played around with, in terms of finishing. This long exposure version was impossible to resist.

They hear everything you know. That thing you think is there? It's them.

The radars are from Belgocontrol and serve to control air traffic above Belgium. They detect the aircraft entering and leaving the country, their location and their identity.

The radars ensure that aircraft can take off and land safely in Brussels. They can detect all air traffic within a radius of 260 kilometers and up to an altitude of 10 kilometers

First proper sail of the season. Electronic aids are great but you can't beat number one eyeball.

I had some time over this BH weekend and sat down in front of a computer to stack a few of my older star trails. Here is one of them from our trip to Jurassic Coast back in April.

It's under an hour of 30 seconds exposures taken with my 700D that replaced ageing 350D last Christmas.
