Very random pic I took yesterday. I love this guy XD.

A stylish set from 1951. This was incredibly dirty, but cleaned up really nice.

A few B&W processed shots of the Research Acceleration and Demonstration (RAD) building on Jubilee Campus at Nottingham University.

The Search for Animal Chin (1987). A lovingly corny skateboarding video starring the breakout "Bones Brigade" directed and produced by Stacy Peralta, of Powell Peralta Skateboards.

Starring Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero. It actually had "a plot!"

A movie I loved in 1987 and recently re-watched on DVD with some hilarious directors cuts and bonus disc of interviews with the original cast giving background. I guess you could sort of call this the "pink flamingos" of skateboard videos. It's so absurd it's great, and they skaters actually try to act. Well, a little.

Film also includes smaller parts by other 80's skaters. San Francisco Scene: Jim Thiebaud, Jesse Martinez, Bryce Kanights, Doug Smith. Bakersfield Scene: Chris Borst, Bobby Reeves, Charlie Dubois, Ray Underhill, Adrian Demain, Donny Griffins, Kevin Lambert. Johnny Rad Party Scene: Mike Vallely, Rodney Mullen, Per Welinder, Natas Kaupas, Arron Murray, Kevin Harris.

That's a pretty rad tire. lol.

where I spend every 2nd wednesday night...until recently. The building where volcano radio operates has been yellow stickered after June 13th EQ - which means we can't use it : ( Am hoping that we'll find new studio digs soon.

This ring is made of sterlingsilver, epoxy resin mixed with pieces of malachite and powder of the same.

plastic clip, fine silver. Made on Jan 16th.

Here's a shot of a great looking Marconi I picked up today with it's doors open. The finish will need some attention but the cabinet is solid and has never been stored in a damp location. The chassis looks great.

An terrific looking shirt pocket radio. The upper reverse painted dial is beautifully framed by two gold chevrons and a crown design above the peep-hole dial window. The chrome speaker grille adds to this radios "regal" appearance while the dark black reverse paint contrasts the chrome so well.

Radios like this make it obvious why Japanese transistor radios are so collectable, even a more common and abundant radio like this. This is an incredible piece of industrial design.

Dirty dishes based on a real story..

Made lazy sunday Jan 10th

Other than the over-sized knobs, this is actually a compact and delicate radio. It looks like it's wearing earmuffs - who thought that these big controls were a good idea? I would think they would be accidentally moved/adjusted when being carried around in someone's shirtpocket.

This radio most likely was made by Standard for a small Japanese company called Fuji Kogei Sha Ltd. The company's name is molded into the back of the cabinet which might lead some to believe Fuji Kogei Sha made the radio. I'm sticking with Standard as the maker.

Just to confuse things a bit - I have seen the same radio with "Standard Radio Corp" molded on the back cover but still branded as Mignon...AND this model is also seen under the Jefferson Travis name.

There are too many mysteries that may never be solved with regards to early Japanese radio manufacturing/marketing.

Update: I recently saw an old magazine ad dating from 1965 which has a transistor radio ad by/for the Fuji Kogei Sha Ltd. company. To the left of the company name are the intials FKS and below that is the Mignon name.
