These are two very closely-related models. The rabbit came first, of course. It was one of my first successful systematic designs, using very basic box-pleating techniques...just boxes and rivers. It folds from a 16 X 16 grid, which makes it a pretty easy fold.
The jackalope is pretty much what happens when you juggle the flap lengths just a bit, and pile on a ton of pleats near the front of the model. He arises from a 28 X 28 grid. Thank heavens for Referencefinder.

This Cottontail was having breakfast on the fresh grass near the Visitor's Center at the Sachuest Point NWR this morning. I noticed that the low angle light was giving his eyes a very weird look -- I didn't notice his gesture to the camera until I downloaded the shot. I guess he doesn't like the paparazzi. ;-)
* No photo-shop of his eye color -- that's how it looked.

About 100 meter from the edge of Grand Canyon, Arizona, I saw this rabbit in the fresh snow.
Elevation here was above 2,000 meter. The temperature during the time we were there varied betwen -2C˚ and -7C˚. The rabbits in Arizona are quite tame, but the new Olympus lens helped too to take this picture. In the subdivisions of Tucson the rabbits are regular visitors. I saw in one garden a rubber snake to scare away the rabbits, and was told that it is working.
