On 6 July, 2022, 62 workers from Kenya based company, Base Titanium, graduated through the ILO supported Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme, one of the first ceremonies in the country.
The workers coming from local communities, usually have dropped out of school or do not have certification for their skills. While the companies hire them on contract, their future job prospects are uncertain without official recognition of their skills.
ILO PROSPECTS with the Government of Kenya undertook over a year long process involving assessments of skills, development of certification processes and frameworks and training of assessors for RPL.
