This was fun, since I did not have a Santa cookie cutter so I took 2 cutters, a Santa hat and a crinkle round to make this cookie.
One hundred years ago, the south Texas town of Asherton was full of hope and promise. With the discovery of deep artesian wells and a temperate climate that allowed for year-round crops, the 'Winter Garden' region of in deep southwest Texas was booming. Asher Richardson saw an opportunity, and by the turn of the century he owned nearly a quarter million acres of land, and the town of Asherton was established in 1902. It developed quickly within a few short years, with the heralded arrival of the Asherton and Gulf Railway in 1910, which was the same year that he built his impressive Bel-Asher Mansion. The town prospered for some time, becoming the Bermuda onion capital of the world. But the underground aquifers were soon tapped out, the Great Depression took a heavy toll, and Asherton fell into a slow decline. Today, Asherton is a poor, blue-collar community where hard-scrabble workers travel to nearby farms; the downtown is completely deserted without any businesses remaining. On the edge of town sits the remnants of the Asherton High School, the hundred-year-old two-story building as its centerpiece, shut down over a decade ago in a funding scandal. A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the moon's disk as seen from Earth.
The next occurrence will be on June 23, 2013. This full moon will be the closest and largest full moon of the year. It also presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013. The moon will not be so close again until August 10, 2014.[3]
They occur about once every 14 full moons in a full moon cycle.
Around Halloween time, the local feed store outside of town creates a corn maze and has a carnival for the kids with all sorts if activities. There were rare clouds in the sky that day and we headed in to the maze.
On the way to the maze I noticed the small ponies hooked up so the kids could ride them and go round and round. I noticed the proud white pony sitting atop the merry-go-round.
And then I noticed Mickey.
Mickey looked bored and done. He spent his time, not cribbing on the pole, no he spent time just playing with it, for something to do. to his right was a wide open field of beautiful green grass.
If I was Mickey, that's where I'd rather be. I'd rather be in the corn maze, chomping on corn.
I don't think it was cruel what they were doing to Mickey, but haven't you ever been in that job, the one that let's you see outside, but you are stuck inside, not miserable...
just
bored.
