Those may seem like just plain black canvases but they're so much more. They've got rectangles of different hues of black paint on them.
Yeah, I don't get Rothko, either.

This is how it looks when shot with a ridiculous white balance.
Someone <stare> pointed out that these pictures look like the work of one of my favourite artists: Rothko. I don't have an original bone in my body. It's certainly true that i love the way the proportions divide up the sky into three bands.
If it was a good Rothko imitation the pink band would be higher in the frame...
