These panels were part of an elaborate multi-storied polyptych commissioned in 1506 by Vincenzo Sauli, a wealthy Italian banker and diplomat, for the high altar of the Benedictine abbey church of San Gerolamo della Cervara, near Genoa. In this ensemble David created a synthesis of Northern and Italian artistic modes, achieving a rare balance between detailed description and elecated exposition.
The crocus season is over for another year and now it is the turn of the Primroses to carpet the floor of the cemetery. I wanted to get a shot that both showed a Primrose and gave a sense of location with Gravestones, I 'd also worked out that the TZ30 didn't cope well with the contrast between the flowers it was focused on and any sky in the background that appeared rather burnt out. What I liked about this clump of flowers was the bare earth around them and the out of focus clump in the background.

In a kaleidoscope of colors, sound and movement, more than 6,000 faithful in the Phoenix Diocese gathered to honor Mary in the most anticipated Catholic event of the year, Rosary Sunday.
Under her title Mary, Help of Christians, the 35th annual celebration continued its traditional offerings of confession, adoration, benediction and recitation of the rosary.
The downtown Phoenix Convention Center opened its doors Oct. 10 to ethnically diverse members of the Body of Christ whose public prayers in different tongues paid homage to Mary, especially for her protection of the unborn.
Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted was greeted with a standing ovation from an enthusiastic crowd that filled the seats, as others searched for open spots.
“Today, we see how Mary is the mother of all of us,” Bishop Olmsted said in his bilingual address.
Auxilary Bishop Eduardo Nevares, recently back from a trip to Rome, delivered an apostolic blessing from Pope Benedict, which was received with a round of applause.
Christy O’Gara said she attended the event for the second year with her six children so they could “see all those that love Jesus.”
“Now, more than ever, we desire to be together as witnesses to the world,” O’Gara said.

In this well-preserved, brilliantly detailed triptych the talents of a landscape specialist - a follower of Patinir's - have been combined with those of the figurative painter Joos van Cleve. Perhaps commissioned by an Italian patron, the work has a Genoese provenance, and the two saints in the right-hand panel, Anthony of Padua and Nicholas of Tolentino, were popular in Southern Europe.
The Frame is original but regilt.

Taken from Genesis 1:3-5 which tells of the creation of light and its separation from darkness. This rosary of black onyx and white howlite is used to remind me of these verses and God's awesome power. Constructed using traditional rosary loops.

As with many other shots this was taken at lunchtime and I've tried to set the plant in context. You'll see more spectacular shots of Bluebells this spring and I think I could do better here even. But I quite like this in a low key way.

Hidden up the hill close to Norwich railway station is one of the citys least known and well hidden gems, Rosary Cemetery. It was the first non denominational cemetery outside London and was opened in 1817, it meant that anyone of any religion could be interred there, and even those without a belief. The great and the good of Victorian Norwich are buried here including the Colman family (of Mustard fame). Its quite overgrown, full of wild flowers and wildlife and its rambling paths make for an interesting walk on a sunny day. Many of the graves are untended and long forgotten but reading them takes you back to an era when life expectancy was far less than it is today. Its rather like a smaller version of Highgate cemetery in London and just as interesting.
James Light and John Prior were a driver and fireman killed in the great train crash at Thorpe, close to the Rushcutters pub, not far away from where they lie now, on September 10th 1874 when a Great Yarmouth to Norwich Mail train collided head on with a London - Great Yarmouth express, killing 25 people.

The Holy Rosary, the school of Mary is all the more effective if we consider that she teaches by obtaining for us in abundance the gifts of the Holy Spirit, even as she offers us the incomparable example of her own “pilgrimage of faith”. As we contemplate each mystery of her Son's life, she invites us to do as she did at the Annunciation: to ask humbly the questions which open us to the light, in order to end with the obedience of faith: “Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38).
