Glencoe in the summer sun...sitting here on the last day of december under unrelenting dismal grey skies this sort of scene can't come soon enough!
One more shot from the Marina, with the bridge still cloaked in rolling fog, but starting to re-appear.
The mini-lighthouse appears older than it actually is, it was built in 1931 but used salvaged stones from an older mansion in San Francisco and much of the wood came from old ships. The Park Commissioner at the time, explained that this lighthouse was built from salvaged materials in an effort to "create a bit of Old World beauty". It was there for 2 years before construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge in 1933, which in turn finished in 1937.
It was built as a fully functional lighthouse to guide boaters in the bay back to the safety of the marina.
Retired for the night, feet up, Heineken in hand. Glanced up at the sound of thunder. Eureka. A roll cloud and a shelf cloud! Last saw one live 15 years ago!

So steht es im Fahrplan, wie für alle (wenigen) Züge der einst bis Gela führenden und seit 2011 infolge eines Brückeneinsturzes unterbrochenen Strecke (Catania -) Lentini - Caltagirone. Doch Theorie und Praxis sind bekanntlich zwei paar Schuhe. Im mitunter etwas chaotischen Sizilien gilt das umso mehr. Nicht völlig überraschend ist also das Erscheinen eines betagten ALn 668 anstatt des planmäßigen, niederflurigen Minuetto.
Ob es jemanden stört, erscheint fraglich. Weniger, weil manch Dysfunktionalität im Bereich der Daseinsvorsorge in Süditalien mit einer Mischung aus stoischer Gelassenheit und Resignation hingenommen wird, sondern eher, weil die Bahn in weiten Teilen des sizilianischen Binnenlands ohnehin kaum eine Rolle für den ÖPNV spielt. Das lässt sich eindrücklich beobachten, wenn am Busbahnhof von Catania praktisch im Minutentakt die gut gefüllten, blauen Überlandbusse eintreffen.
Ich hingegen freute mich am 15. September 2019, dass mir bei Vizzini ein einzelner Fiat-Triebwagen vor die Linse knatterte. Denn der passte wunderbar in den noch sonnenbeschienenen Abschnitt der Strecke, den ich nach etwas Suche gefunden hatte.
Das vorangegangene Warten am Rand der schmalen Landstraße war an diesem milden Septemberabend unglaublich relaxend gewesen. Kaum Verkehr, ein leichter Wind, der durch die nach einem langen Sommer golden im Abendlicht leuchtenden Gräser strich und irgendwo in der Ferne das Glockengeläut einer Ziegenherde... :)
I wanted to pay homage to the best role playing game ever created (in my opinion). My kids, friends and I spend time together having some fun most Friday nights playing Dungeons and Dragons. I’m just happy they let me play :)

Towards the end of summer 2014 this violent storm cloud quickly rolled in and produced one bolt of lightning after another for about 10 minutes. There were moments when this cloud looked alive.
