Sarlat-la-Canéda is een plaats in het departement Dordogne in de regio Aquitanië in Frankrijk. De plaats ligt in de Périgord Noir. Sarlat heeft 8.869 inwoners (2017) en een oppervlakte van 4713 ha. Het behoort tot het arrondissement Sarlat-la-Canéda en het kanton Sarlat-la-Canéda.

Het oude stadsgedeelte van Sarlat vormt een mooi architecturaal geheel met diverse middeleeuwse huizen.[1] Het oude Sarlat bestaat uit twee delen gescheiden door de Travèrse[2]. In de 13e en 14e eeuw beleefde de stad een welvarende periode als handelsplaats.

Het dorp la Canéda werd op 1 maart 1965 samengevoegd met Sarlat. Het is ontstaan in de 8e eeuw rond een abdij.

Back in the day if your smoking material became too small to smoke but too big to toss, you reached into your pocket for this little device. It looks like a key but when squeezed the blade would separate and it became a handy clip. It has remained on my keychain ever since. It has held up quite well over the years, possibly because it was made in the USA.

Summer and Rock´n´roll

The rolling hills and stubble fields around Lago, Idaho reminded me of the Palouse region of Washington and Idaho. Sunlight breaking through storm clouds was a bonus.

… Skytrains are starting their taxi roll, on their way to Normandy for the 75th D-Day celebrations.

The aircraft on the right has had quite a busy life. She was part of the first few batches delivered by Douglas to the Army Air Corp in 1941, and saw action in Africa and the Middle East during the war.

She was sold to France in 1945 and operated by the French Air Force till the mid sixties. In 1967, she was sold again to Israel and operated by the Israeli Defence Force till finally retired in 1995.

Since then, she’s been a favourite at air shows all over the US and made the trip to Europe for the 75th D-Day anniversary celebrations. For the occasion, she wears the livery of 43-15087, a C-47A which dropped part of 3rd battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry in Normandy in the early hours of June 6th. Daks over Duxford
