Roger and his elderly buddy Lodger decided to move in permanently with me uninvited in 2015 after being locally abandoned and it took me 4 years to establish (with help from a tip off) who was responsible and why.

Roger is a special needs cat and is one of the reasons why he was abandoned by his previous so called owner and the reason why he's not featured too much in my flickr photostream in the intervening years.

The Roger Stevens Building was built in 1970 as part of the development of the Leeds University South Campus by the architects Chamberlin Powell and Bon.

The CPB buildings at Leeds were constructed between 1964 and 1976. They are all recognisably by the same practice, although developments of its style can be seen in the later buildings, especially the Roger Stevens Building (1970).

The west elevation, facing Chancellors Court, has four stepped sections descending from right to left, divided by narrow, vertical, external, semi-circular ventilation shafts. In the bay between the third and fourth sections there is an external staircase projecting in semi-circular bays from the façade. The two left sections are supported on pilotis of diminishing height as the levels of the building descend, with a broad staircase descending from left to right within.

On this quiet fall afternoon I popped by the Berkshire Scenic Railroad Museum for a look at their newest addition at rest in the yard, the surviving three cars of the New Haven Railroad's famous high speed lightweight 'Roger Williams' trainset. This trainset was the Budd company's offering among three experimental high speed trainsets ordered by Patrick McGinnis in 1955, the other two being the Dan'l Webster built by Pullman with Baldwin power cars and the John Quincy Adams built by ACF to a Talgo design with Fairbanks-Morse power cars. All entered service in 1957 and the latter two were failures and sold in 1960 and 62 respectively but the Roger Williams fared much better owing to its design based on the successful Budd RDC.

Originally consisting of six cars, three have survived in private ownership and after a long period of storage on the Hobo Railroad in New Hampshire recently came back to home rails and are being restored to operation.

Lyrics:

Is there a right way for how this goes

You got your friends and you got your foes

They want a piece of something hot

Forget your name like they forgot

Ohh, ain't that something

Some wanna see you crash and burn

I criticize your every word

I'm trying to keep from going insane

Ain't that the way of this whole damn thing

Ohh, trying to be something... more

Nobody's gonna love you if you can't display a way to capture this

Nobody's gonna hold your hand and guide you through

No it's up for you to understand

Nobody's gonna feel your pain

When all is done

And it's time for you to walk away

So when you have today

You should say all that you have to say

Ohh, say all that you have to say

Is there a right way for being strong?

Feels like I'm doing things all wrong

Still I'm here just holding on

Confess my heart and forgive my wrongs, oh

Just trying to show you something... more

Nobody's gonna love you if

You can't display a way to capture this

Nobody's gonna hold your hand

And guide you through

It's up for you to understand

Nobody's gonna feel your pain

When all is done

And it's time for you to walk away

When you have today

You should say all that you have to say

Don't point the blame when you can't find nothing

Look to yourself and you might find something

It's time that we sorted out

All of the things

We complain about

So listen close to the sound of your soul

Take back a life

We led once before

If it ain't you then who

If it ain't you

Then who's gonna love you

Nobody's gonna love you if (oh-oh)

You can't display a way to capture this

Nobody's gonna hold your hand (hold your hand)

And guide you through

It's up for you to understand

Nobody's gonna feel your pain (your pain)

When all is done

And it's time for you to walk away

When you have today

You should say all that you have to say

So when you have today

Say all that you have to say

Say hello to Roger:-)

Roger is a old friend, who´s had a rough trip on the road of life, but still going strong. Happily.

He´s a intelligent, energetic and kind person, who likes to talk. A lot:-) Thought he was gone, since i haven't seen him for a while, but luckily, he´s still here.

Was really nice to meet him again:-)

I'm sad to announce to my flickr friends my love Roger has been sent to the angels up in the sky after his many debilitating conditions completely overwhelmed him particularly in the last 48 hours of his wonderful life.

Roger was always a special needs cat and needed special daily care like no other cat I've ever come across, and one of the reasons why he was abandoned by his previous owner (long story).

Roger was born in early 2005 and was about 16 and a half years old. Roger moved in with me along with his lifelong buddy Lodger in 2015 and spent his final 6 years of his life loved and cared for in his new forever home.

Fantastic performance by the legendary Pink Floyd musician in Brasilia.

His extensive tour of Brazil and the world authentically underscores his political and ideological thinking.

But the uninformed supporters of neo-fascist candidate Bozo try to censor him ???? !!!!

I couldn't decide between a photo of Roger or a photo of a flower for my 365 project today so I decided to combine them. Roger was somewhat chagrined, but, true to his nature, he complied. He's such a love! Although I chose another photo for my 365 project, I like how this turned out. Roger is a confident guy and secure enough in his poodle-ness to have this photo posted for all to see!

The Roger Williams was a 6-car experimental trainset built by Budd for the New Haven Railroad in 1956. The cars were a variant of the company's widely successful Rail Diesel Car (RDC) diesel multiple units, with the end two cars featuring locomotive-style cabs - a feature no other factory RDCs had. After a few years in service between Boston and New York City, the trainset was split up and intermixed with the rest of the railroad's RDC fleet and continuing on through Penn Central and Amtrak operation before being retired in the 1980s. Three of the six cars were preserved by a private owner at the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln, NH, and in 2023 ownership was transferred to the Berkshire Scenic Railroad Museum in Lenox, MA. On Saturday, July 20, 2024 the cars were hauled by the Housatonic Railroad from Lenox to North Canaan, CT for display during the annual Canaan Railroad Days event. Knowing the trip with the historic cars would be popular with photographers, the museum and railroad graciously arranged a handful of photo stops along the way during which the locomotives were uncoupled, allowing for scenes with the remaining trainset alone!

No idea who Roger or Lodger belong or belonged too but both cats have taken refuge with me on a seemingly full time basis. They are in and about my house 24/7.

Roger is quite an elderly boy probably well into double figures while 'Lodger' is much younger I think. Both are very sociable with each other, my own two boys and myself.

I keep a constant eye out on local missing cat lists (Facebook et al) but these two boys have never appeared on any of them.

If any one member of The Who can be said to be the group's founding member it is singer Roger Daltrey, who was born in the West London suburb of Shepherds's Bush on March 1st, 1944. Roger first assembled the group that would become The Who in 1959 while at Acton County School, recruiting John Entwistle and subsequently agreeing to John's proposal that Pete Townshend should join. In those days, Roger, whose daytime job was in a sheet metal factory, even made the band's guitars, and it was his high energy and ambition that drove the group during their formative years. That same energy, coupled with his unwavering resolve, has sustained the group during periods of uncertainty ever since.

Have you noticed that at this time of year it is all too easy for photos to get very monochrome. Grey has it's own beauty of course, but don't you sometimes just want to throw in a splash of colour?

Well I am setting myself a challenge and am throwing it open to anyone who wants to play along.

It's called Roger Of York Gave Battle In Vain Perhaps.

Now I know as far as the mnemonic for the colours of the rainbow goes, it should be Richard rather than Roger but I have always said Roger so it stays. And I know also that there should be no P after violet, but Pink is getting an honorary mention!

i have set it up in a group called Roger of York and in the description set out some timescales, but basically one pic of one colour a week, working through the rainbow. Doesn't have to be the whole picture, just an accent, anything you like really as long as the colour makes an appearance. Just for fun and maybe a bit of mojo.

Hope you will play along. Here is the proposed order, but it's flexible, just when you want!

Red (Roger) from now

Orange (Of) w/c Monday 11th Feb

Yellow (York) w/c Monday 18th Feb

Green (Gave) w/c Monday 25th Feb

Blue (Battle) w/c Monday 4th March

Indigo (In) w/c Monday 11th March

Violet (Vain) w/c Monday 18th March

Pink (Perhaps) w/c Monday 25th March.
