Kostanjevica na Krki, Slovenia's smallest town and one of the oldest, is a veritable wonder of nature. The "na Krki" ("on the Krka") part of its name is extremely apt, since the old part of the town is actually situated on an island in a bend of the river Krka, at the foot of the Gorjanci Hills.
A "blast from the past". Narrow Wangjiamatou Road (王家码头路) leads from Xiaonanmen (小南门) to the wharves at Huangpu River - "Matou" (码头) means "wharf, pier, jetty" in Chinese.
The area around Xiaonanmen, a maze of tiny and tinier alleys and "弄 nong", filled with small 1 to 2 storey houses is in parts still in the same state as it was in colonial times - and/or even before that. One of the last remnants of the (in colonial times) so called "Chinese City".
But it's doomed - urban redevelopment calls for demolition of the small old buildings and construction of new, shiny apartment and office towers. View it on a black background

The main road from Oruro to Uyuni in Bolivia. Traveling through the more remote parts from Bolivia is hot and dusty. The latter especially because of frequent trucks. After nightfall it can become difficult when the destination is off the main route as there is little signposting and no lights with frequent unmarked tracks branching off
