After World War I, steel supply was scarce, Some boats were constructed out of reinforced concrete. The MV Creteblock was built in Shoreham, in 1919 and was used as a harbour tug in Teeside, until 1935 when it was taken to Whitby to be scrapped.

The vessel began deteriorating. In 1947, when it was being towed out to deep water to be scuttled, it sank in the shallows of Whitby Scar, near Saltwick Nab. It was later blown up to reduce the hazard to other vessels, Many large pieces were left and can still be reached at low tide.

A bit of a trek to get to these falls and not too much water flowing over them at the moment, but well worth the trip.

We had a hike from Hawsker to Robin Hoods Bay on the Cleveland Way and back along the old cinder track which was where the old steam trains used to run. A sunshine and shower day. A break halfway at the Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay for a pint and a bit of lunch.

Lovely views all the way.

An Australian Eastern Water Dragon.

They have very long tails. This fine specimen was about 90cm.

These friendly reptiles roam around the gardens often sunning themselves on the walkways. They are very inquisitive and are not perturbed by humans.
