View down Whakatane river, looking toward the heads. If you look very carefully toward the centre of the image, you'll make out White Island, an active volcano located 50km offshore.

After several very cold days, I cleaned snow and ice off the car and took it for a spin, just to warm it thoroughly. I had my camera with me, not really expecting to get out and roam around. However, in spite of the cold, it felt quite comfortable because there was no wind and the sun was shining. I stopped at Riverview Park & Zoo. The playground equipment provided a brilliant source of colour that caught my eye.
