I tried to get the sun closer, but perhaps for my camera or I do not know why, I did not like the result, so for this day it was enough for this other photo of the sunrise.
But you will see the next day it was different, it was pretty ok close, and still do not know why.
Full moon rising over Sacramento, and my very last project (that hulk of steel and concrete). When the project is done, so am I.
Or was it a good moon rising?
The full moon over the mesas of Canyonlands National Park, Utah, United States of America.
This shot was made just after the clouds had obscured a sunset. Just as I was about to kick rocks on my way back to camp after another disappointing cloudy day, I looked up and saw the glow of the moon coming from around the bluff. I'm thinking, what the heck? The clouds parted for about 10 minutes which allowed me to shoot this scene like a super model. :)
Some day I will get a good long lens for these shots, but until then I'll have to put up with taking shots like this. ;)
Please check out the last shot that I posted if you haven't seen it yet. It's a rare day when I get to shoot a rainbow, let alone one reflecting in water. :)
Thank you so much for all of the great comments since I've been back. It took the bulk of the morning to sort through and reply to emails before I could even start to think about work. I hate vacations... Umm, I mean I hate returning from vacations. :)

The Full Moon rising over what i think was the old Liverpool Airport in Speke. Taken from Eastham Ferry on a misty night, it was a nightmare trying to get the focus correct(and even now i think it may be slightly out :/ )

Here, I am having some fun with abstract reality.
These patches of lichen and the underlying, colorful moulds are "rising"
on a cement retaining wall, located next to a neighbor's driveway.
In order to bring out the beauty and drama in this peculiar subject,
I greatly increased saturation and contrast.
Location: Front driveway of a private home, Riehen BS Switzerland.

It's getting hard to take my evening walks along the parkway. The road leading to the lake is closed meaning you're a bit limited in where you can walk. The river is currently at 16.5 and still rising. Shouldn't get much higher.
I posted this picture a couple of months ago. It's been tweaked a bit since. Today my picture was featured on pixsy.com as part of an article about hot air balloon photography that I was asked to co-author. You can read the article here: www.pixsy.com/hot-air-balloon-photos/, and I am taking the occasion to re-post this picture with its tweaks.

"Skeleton Tree"
Sunday morning, skeleton tree
Oh, nothing is for free
In the window, a candle
Well, maybe you can see
Fallen leaves thrown across the sky
A jittery TV
Glowing white like fire
Nothing is for free
I called out, I called out
Right across the sea
But the echo comes back in, dear
And nothing is for free
Sunday morning, skeleton tree
Pressed against the sky
The jittery TV
Glowing white like fire
And I called out, I called out
Right across the sea
I called out, I called out
That nothing is for free
And it's alright now
And it's alright now
And it's alright now
(Nick Cave Skeleton Tree)
Passing geese and cranes fly in front ot the rising sun on a foggy morning in Central Valley wetlands.
A photograph like this isn’t always possible and is never easy. Obviously, the sun is extremely bright, and this presents some major exposure challenges. At the same time, the sides of the birds and plants facing the camera is in the darkest possible shadow, being on the opposite side of the sun. But on this morning several factors haled out. the high clouds interfered with the sun just a bit, and closer to the ground a bit of tule fog was still hanging on.
Early morning may be the most compelling time in these wetlands. (Though I’ll hear you out if you want to argue for evening.) After arriving in darkness, the sky begins to glow and the light slowly increases. Fog may mute the light and add a sense of mystery. And the birds are coming to life, warming their wings in the first sunlight and then flying out for the day’s activities.

This was from this morning as well looking west, I had just taken the shot of the sunrise and turned back towards the truck and this rainbow was just there. Thats why the truck is in the shot not a lot of time.

Project 365 // Day 193
Sometimes not knowing exactly what something is, makes it that much better. I thought about revealing what I shot to get this effect, but that might spoil the mystique for some, or worse, ruin it for others – but I think my favorite "guess" from the comments below has to be the person that said they look like a big cluster of planets and moons. That sounds good to me. :)
