Elle est d’ailleurs la seule signée de sa propre main lors de l’inauguration. Elle évoque les conditions difficiles des traversées réalisées par les migrants en mettant l’accent sur la richesse culturelle qu’ils emmènent avec eux (musique,…) sur leurs frêles embarcations. Ce journaliste français a travaillé pour plusieurs grands journaux dont « Le Monde ». Il se fait très vite remarquer pour ses enquêtes. Depuis 2008, il est le président et cofondateur du site d’information « Médiapart » bien connu pour débusquer des affaires ou enquêter en profondeur.

Wandering off the trail in search of a decent composition, cactus of all kinds, barbed grasses and thistle are everywhere! Although I'm quite careful to keep my distance from menacing larger cactus, I always end up having to spend lots of time picking a variety of prickly things from socks and pants upon returning to my car. Even still, I'm completely in love with this place! However, I haven't yet managed to capture a nice sunset over the main attraction--the towering cliffs of the Superstition Mountains.

I took this in Thailand over ten years ago on my first Nikon D70. I still love the richness and sense of inner calm that this image gives. I'm love photography as much today as I did then when I was just starting to take it seriously.

This is my day two here in Okinawa! What a richness of nature Okinawa has! Two hundred million year human fossils have been discovered at Gyokusen-do Cave. The view of the cave from the top of the stairs is marvellous!! It takes more than 40 minutes to explore under the ground. A sense of adventure can be experienced. Anyone who visit Okinawa certainly recommend to go to the cave. It is awesome!!

This exposure was 30seconds long so that I could capture the richness of the color as it shines off of the Pavilion. The colors are constantly changing which makes for a very beautiful display!

Everything's a matter of perspective. From a tiny insect's point of view, this is a great landscape. We just usually don't see the richness and beauty of those little worlds.

The Horezu Monastery or Hurezi Monastery was founded in 1690 by Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu in the town of Horezu, Wallachia, Romania. It is considered to be a masterpiece of "Brâncovenesc style", known for its architectural purity and balance, the richness of its sculpted detail, its treatment of religious compositions, its votive portraits, and its painted decorative works.

 

The Brâncovenesc style, which can be found at several other churches and monasteries in Wallachia, is the only true and original Romanian style and is called "Brancoveanu art" by the name of the ruler who, in a period of constant battles between the world powers of that time, put cultural development of the country above everything and made it the goal of his life.

Once known as Portswood and located a quarter-mile further north, this incarnation of the station was built in 1866 by the London & South Western Railway and renamed St Denys - this to avoid confusion on the recently built branch to Portsmouth which the new station served.

 

The station lies on the outskirts of Southampton and sports excellent Victorian architecture, much of which has been preserved and remains in use, although some of it now lies in private hands.

 

This shot was taken from the Portsmouth line platforms early one morning and makes use of the elegant awnings and rather nicely painted footbridge. Well, perhaps a bit of peeling paint can be forgiven here and there.

 

The departing unit, 158883 operated by South Western Trains, was probably the 7.07am Romsey - Salisbury (2S11), assuming it was a runner in 2015.

 

I've left this one a little darker than usual to avoid burning out the highlights and retain the richness in the colours. Best viewed full-screen.

It's relatively rare to be able to shoot directly into the sun and not end up with glare and burn-out, here there was just enough cloud to make it possible. If you are lucky enough to be out in the hills, it is difficult to beat a good winter sunset for richness and depth of colour. The sky to the right could almost be an oil painting.

and what he creates, or better perhaps, brings back, are the objective results of his explorations. The measure of his talent––of his genius, if you will––is the richness he finds in such a life’s voyage of discovery and the effectiveness with which he is able to embody it through his chosen medium :-)

Indian Lake, New York. 518. Boaters enjoying perhaps a one last cruise on Indian lake near the end of Fall. I purposely deepened and darkened the colors of autumn to accentuate the richness of the Adirondacks. I wanted to create an image as if I were a artist of pigments. Standing behind my easel, smelling the colors rising from my palate, carefully blending hues.

Situat entre les localitats de Cella i Villarquemado, es tracta d'un aiguamoll que, des de 2006 i en diferents fases, es troba en procés de recuperació, convertint-se en un ambiciós projecte de restauració ambiental que, pràcticament, pot seguir-se en viu. El projecte preveu la recuperació de 400 ha -300 d'elles inundables-, d'un entorn que al llarg de la història va ser drenat per aprofitar la riquesa dels seus sòls com a superfícies de conreu i que abans de 1729, any en què van començar les obres per a la seva total dessecació, va arribar a assolir una extensió total de gairebé 10 km2.

This lake is one of the greatest natural attractions of the region of Teruel. Since 2006, this wetland between Cella and Villarquemado is being restored in different steps in which can practically be followed as a live project.

The target is to control 300 to 400 ha of flood, making profit of an environment that was drained throughout history to exploit the richness of the soil for growing crops. Before 1729, when the process for complete drying started, a total length of nearly 10 km2 has been reached.

I'm going on one week's vacation on the north coast. I leave my landscape, my neighbors, my work, my thoughts. I leave it all at a distance, I let it all rest.

 

Something today, I don't remember what, made me think about "wealth". What is it to be rich? The image of the first humans came to mind. Humans before civilization, before war, before agriculture and the renunciation of nomadism.

 

I thought that one of them, like all the others, had to rest at least once a day, without thinking, without calculating, without being afraid. And that person should simply enjoy the richness of being alive. Barely dressed in a cloth or a fur, he or she should feel perfectly safe and without any anxiety, surrounded by everything he or she needs, without doing anything.

 

Especially without doing anything, because everything is done: the trees, the plants, the animals, the thousands of billions of living beings that swarmed everywhere on earth and guaranteed that life would proliferate until the end of time.

 

How poor we have become since then, chasing after the illusion of eternal life, after money, after power. The richer we feel we are, the poorer we are.

 

I am going to the sea in this state of mind, hoping to connect with one of those people who may have lived there, completely fulfilled, very wise, simply happy, but fifty thousand years ago.

Every country has bad, dark periods in history, for which retribution will surely come. Courage is about looking back and realizing and accepting those mistakes so you don't repeat them. Accept the lessons of the past to build a better future. And that people is worthy of respect who can accept the mistakes of their past and talk about them. My respect to the Netherlands in the person of Hyaecinte, who with dignity, truthfully and boldly told about the facts from the history of her country on Avistar 2022.

 

After the almost endless drive through mostly rainy Norway, past cloud-covered mountains, gray fjords and glaciers that we could only imagine, we finally reached our destination, the Lofoten. This scene showed up the beauty and richness of color that we have dreamed of for the first time. We desperately needed more such nice weather for the upcoming highlights.

The Church of the Apostles James and Philip in Toruń was built between 1309 to 15th century. First received the chancel, then the nave corps with the western tower. Kościół Świętych Apostołów Jakuba i Filipa w Toruniu budowano od roku 1309 roku do XV stulecia. Wpierw otrzymała prezbiterium, a następnie korpus nawowy z wieżą zachodnią. W latach 1557-1667 kościół należał do gminy ewangelickiej, następnie odzyskały go benedyktynki, które do XIX wieku zarządzały świątynią.

Ze względu na charakterystyczną bryłę, bogactwo detalu architektonicznego i wysublimowany układ przestrzenny wnętrza, kościół należy do najważniejszych przykładów ceglanej architektury basenu Morza Bałtyckiego. Wewnątrz zachował się bardzo cenny wystrój wnętrza - liczne malowidła ścienne z XIV-XV wieku, tzw. Czarny Krucyfiks z XV wieku, figura Matki Boskiej z początku XVI wieku i wiele innych.

Spending a couple of Autumn days on the West Coast last weekend, I was enamored with the richness of the different plant life especially (In comparison to either Chicago or Rochester, NY) Long walks were so pleasant and I enjoyed savoring each aspect of nature. As some commented, this is likely a Magnolia seed pod.

La vila occitana de Concas (Conques, en francès) és una de les més boniques de França. Es tracta d'una important població medieval, afavorida per ser un punt important de pas del Camí de Sant Jaume. I ella mateixa tenia el seu propi peregrinatge, en les reliquies de Santa Fe.

 

Recordo com el meu pare volia anar-hi en alguna ocasió que varem estar per Occitania, però no va poguer ser. Ara com a minim m'he tret aquesta espina.

Costruita in stile romanico-gotico italiano, è una delle più significative chiese realizzate in questo stile in Italia. Inizio costruzione nel 1220 circa e completamento nel 1370 circa, da vari artisti tra cui Giovanni Pisano e Camaino di Crescentino.

 

La facciata, tutta in marmo bianco con qualche decorazione in rosso di Siena e serpentino di Prato, è divisibile in due metà, inferiore e superiore, riferibili a due distinte fasi costruttive. La ricchezza della decorazione, prevalentemente scultorea, nasconde irregolarità e asimmetrie derivate dalla lunga fase costruttiva a cui misero mano molteplici progettisti.

 

Parte superiore

 

La parte superiore della facciata è opera di Camaino di Crescentino (padre del più famoso Tino di Camaino), che vi lavorò tra il 1299 circa e il 1317. Un tempo la paternità del progetto era attribuita a Giovanni di Cecco, che vi avrebbe lavorato dopo il 1376, sulla base di un documento che parlava di lavori “alla Facciata in piazza del Duomo, logia del vescovo”, che si pensava si riferissero alla facciata del duomo e invece riferiti alla facciata del Palazzo Vescovile, anch'essa sulla stessa piazza e anch'essa dimora del vescovo. Il ritrovamento di un documento del 1310 che incita alla realizzazione di un mosaico per la cuspide centrale e tre cronache trecentesche precedentemente ignorate, che datano al 1317 il completamento della facciata, hanno chiarito questo aspetto.

 

Camaino di Crescentino dette alla facciata l'odierno aspetto tricuspidale. Un bellissimo oculo si apre al centro, incorniciato da nicchie gotiche contenenti i busti di Apostoli e Profeti che rendono omaggio alla Madonna col Bambino, identificabile nella nicchia centrale superiore (gli originali sono nel Museo dell'Opera del Duomo). Ai lati due pilastri incorniciano questa struttura e terminano in pinnacoli e quindi in sottilissime guglie, accentuando lo slancio verso l'alto dell'edificio. Lateralmente sono presenti due ordini di loggette, mentre il tutto è sormontato da tre cuspidi dorate. I tre mosaici dorati, che raffigurano da sinistra a destra la Presentazione di Maria al Tempio, l'Incoronazione della Vergine e La Natività di Gesù, furono eseguiti a Venezia nel 1878, su disegno di Alessandro Franchi. L'oculo reca invece una vetrata di Pastorino dei Pastorini (metà del XVI secolo), raffigurante l'Ultima Cena e visibile dall'interno.

 

Nel complesso la facciata superiore è in stile gotico fiorito. Intorno ai primi anni del Trecento, l'architetto senese Lorenzo Maitani iniziò i lavori per la facciata del Duomo di Orvieto, visibilmente influenzata dalla facciata superiore senese. Essendo però tale stile applicato a tutta la facciata, anziché alla sola parte superiore, la facciata della cattedrale orvietana risulta una versione perfezionata della facciata senese. Non è del tutto chiaro chi delle due fece da modello all'altra, ma avendo i lavori di Camaino di Crescentino anticipato di qualche anno quelli di Lorenzo Maitani ed avendo la città di Siena influenza maggiore rispetto a quella di Orvieto, è probabile che sia stata Siena a fare da modello ad Orvieto, piuttosto che viceversa.In ogni caso è evidente a Siena un difetto architettonico, con i pilastri ai lati del rosone che non coincidono con quelli ai lati del portale mediano, nella metà inferiore.

The metropolitan cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the main Catholic place of worship in Siena, Tuscany, home of the metropolitan archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino; the building is located in the square of the same name.

 

Built in Italian Romanesque-Gothic style, it is one of the most significant churches built in this style in Italy. Construction began around 1220 and completed in about 1370, by various artists including Giovanni Pisano and Camaino di Crescentino.

 

The façade, all in white marble with some decorations in red from Siena and serpentine from Prato, can be divided into two halves, lower and upper, referable to two distinct construction phases. The richness of the decoration, predominantly sculptural, hides irregularities and asymmetries derived from the long construction phase to which many designers worked.

 

Upper part

 

The upper part of the facade is the work of Camaino di Crescentino (father of the more famous Tino di Camaino), who worked there between about 1299 and 1317. Once the paternity of the project was attributed to Giovanni di Cecco, who would have worked there after 1376, on the basis of a document that spoke of works "to the facade in Piazza del Duomo, the bishop's logo", which was thought to refer to the facade of the cathedral and instead referred to the facade of the Bishop's Palace, also on the same square and also the bishop's home. The discovery of a document from 1310 that incites the creation of a mosaic for the central cusp and three previously ignored fourteenth-century chronicles, which date back to 1317 completing the façade, have clarified this aspect.

 

Camaino di Crescentino gave the facade its present three-spired appearance. A beautiful oculus opens in the center, framed by Gothic niches containing the busts of Apostles and Prophets that pay homage to the Madonna and Child, identifiable in the upper central niche (the originals are in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo). At the sides two pillars frame this structure and end in pinnacles and then in very thin spiers, accentuating the building's upward momentum. Laterally there are two orders of loggias, while the whole is surmounted by three golden cusps. The three golden mosaics, depicting the Presentation of Mary at the Temple from left to right, the Coronation of the Virgin and the Nativity of Jesus, were performed in Venice in 1878, designed by Alessandro Franchi. The oculus bears a stained-glass window by Pastorino dei Pastorini (mid 16th century), depicting the Last Supper and visible from the inside.

 

Overall, the upper façade is in flowery Gothic style. Around the beginning of the fourteenth century, the Sienese architect Lorenzo Maitani began work on the façade of the Duomo of Orvieto, visibly influenced by the Sienese upper façade. However, since this style is applied to the entire façade, rather than to the upper part alone, the façade of the Orvieto cathedral is an improved version of the Sienese facade. It is not entirely clear which of the two was a model for the other, but having the works of Camaino di Crescentino anticipated by a few years those of Lorenzo Maitani and having the city of Siena more influenced than that of Orvieto, it is likely that it was Siena acts as a model for Orvieto, rather than vice versa. In any case, an architectural defect is evident in Siena, with the pillars on the sides of the rose window that do not coincide with those on the sides of the median portal, in the lower half.
