Wild Clematis

Where the woodland streamlets flow,

Gushing down a rocky bed,

Where the tasseled alders grow,

Lightly meeting over head,

When the fullest August days,

Give the richness what they know,

Then the wild clematis comes,

With her wealth of tangled blooms,

Reaching up and drooping low.

A secluded spot on the top of a hill with some wonderful old trees. New saplings have been planted lined up around the mystic wooden chairs placed in a circular formation as-if its a secret gathering spot. The dusk light draping the scene in a orange golden glow of warm shimmering sunbeams. Shot at Nene Country Park in Cambridgeshire late afternoon as the light was fading.

The Grand Canal forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city. Public transport is provided by water buses and private water taxis, and many tourists explore the canal by gondola. It is 3.8 km long, and 30 to 90 m wide, with an average depth of five meters.

The banks of the Grand Canal are lined with more than 170 buildings, most of which date from the 13th to the 18th century, and demonstrate the welfare and art created by the Republic of Venice. The noble Venetian families faced huge expenses to show off their richness in suitable palazzos; this contest reveals the citizens’ pride and the deep bond with the lagoon.

Because most of the city's traffic goes along the Canal rather than across it, only one bridge crossed the canal until the 19th century, the Rialto Bridge. There are currently three more bridges, the Ponte degli Scalzi, the Ponte dell'Accademia, and the recent, controversial Ponte della Costituzione, designed by Santiago Calatrava, connecting the train station to Piazzale Roma, one of the few places in Venice where buses and cars can enter. As was usual in the past, people can still take a ferry ride across the canal at several points by standing up on the deck of a simple gondola called a traghetto, although this service is less common than even a decade ago.

Most of the palaces emerge from water without pavement. Consequently, one can only tour past the fronts of the buildings on the grand canal by boat.

From this vantage near the terminus of the Little Horse Trail, the famous Red Rocks of Sedona tower over Chicken point and this broader valley in Coconino National Forest.

On a bright but cloudy day the contrasts of Sedona, the red rocks and the green Ponderosa Pines, the blue skies and billowy white clouds, create a picturesque scene. Why share the image in monochrome then? Because, even without the colors, the richness of the textures tells a story of its own, from the jagged, but rigidly horizontal lines on the carved towers of rock, to the millions of rough edges on the trees and plants, to the stretched thin cotton of the clouds above.

Sedona is a place that defies explanation, it is a cacophony of sensory pleasures that share space and time to evoke wondrous emotion in all those who encounter it first-hand.

I just love this picture because it represents so well the richness of the Atlantic Rain Forest in a single branch... The marvelous Red-necked Tanager (female), the liquens, the fern, all so full of life... Unfortunately there is less than 5% of the original Atlantic Rain Forest and it is always under threat for numerous reasons. We must protect this delicate and fragile environment.

Have a nice Friday!

Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

EPOD ( Earth-Science Picture Of Day ) #4 - June 17, 2022

This second photo dedicated to the Timpa Nature Reserve of Acireale was published as EPOD ( Earth-Science Picture Of Day ) on 17 June 2022. It differs from the first for the framing, but especially for the shooting technicque. This last photo, in fact, is the result of the sum of ten shots. This gives the image a greater richness of shades of brightness and colors.

The photo shows the southern part of the “Timpa” of Acireale, Italy, located on the east coast of Sicily. The Timpa consists of a steep cliff overlooking the sea that rises around 500 feet (150 meters) and extends for about 3.7 miles or 6 kilometers. It originated from the movement of the Acireale fault, one of the most important in the eastern region of the Etna Volcano. Fault activity started about 200,000 years ago and lasted for about 100,000 years, which brought out numerous layers of volcanic rocks that tell the geological history of Etna. The terrain ruggedness makes the area almost inaccessible by land. This tough topography has enabled the landscape to remain an island of unspoiled nature, despite being located within a highly urbanized region. For this reason, it was locally proclaimed a nature reserve in 1999. Photo taken on February 6, 2022.

The church known as the collegiate church of San Martín de Elines (located in San Martín de Elines, Cantabria) is the most outstanding in Valderredible due to its size, monumentality and beauty, during the Middle Ages it was the main monastery in the valley. Currently, it is considered a BIC (Asset of Cultural Interest) (it was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasure by decree of June 3, 1931).

However, little of its documentation has been preserved, although the book "Miseria de Ome" was written in it, one of the few preserved from the Cuaderna Vía. Already in the 10th century it must have been important, since in the current cemetery there are some Mozarabic arches and some windows in the northern wall of the cloister from this period. This Mozarabic factory seems to have been permanently ruined in 1102 and it must have been on this date that the current Romanesque church was started, one of the first in Cantabria, although the cloister seems to be much later, from the 16th century.

In this cloister there is an important collection of sarcophagi, some of them beautifully decorated. There is one that is very striking due to the richness of its reliefs, already Gothic, from the 13th century. On the back of its lid there is a long sword and an inscription from the year 1231. The shell of the pilgrim to Santiago appears, which suggests that it could be some infant or nobleman who passed through the monastery on the way to Compostela, where he met his death. .

Outside, the apse and, in general, the sequence of corbels on the cornices are noteworthy. On the right wall of this apse there is the only remains of Romanesque painting in Cantabria with the representation of two apostles.

How long have I been in this storm?

So overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form

Water's getting harder to tread

With these waves crashing over my head

If I could just see you

Everything would be all right

If I'd see you

This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water

And you will catch me if I fall

And I will get lost into your eyes

I know everything will be alright

I know everything is alright

I know you didn't bring me out here to drown

So why am I ten feet under and upside down?

Barely surviving has become my purpose

Because I'm so used to living underneath the surface

If I could just see you

Everything would be all right...

It is extremely and exceedingly difficult…

…to render with just one shot the whole complexity and richness of detail which are in Canyonlands. The land is made with canyons inside canyons, spires over spires, silhouettes, mesas, buttes, and everything the nature, the wind and the water have molded in aeons. When a visitor gets to Grand View Point gets some difficulties with the “vast” concept. I had to stitch toghether several photos to try to build a panoramic view of what I want to show you, the result is a huge image (17000 x 4300 pixels, printable up to 6 meters wide), then zooming into it, it is possible to see some of the detail I was describing before. Print it on a wall and you’ll get a gigantic window over Canyonlands.

The city is known for having the highest density of listed historical monuments!

While strolling through the cobblestone streets of the medieval city, consider looking up to see the architectural richness of the monuments.

With its history dating back to the Middle Ages, Sarlat has an exceptional heritage to photograph.

This city of Art and History is the first preserved sector of France to have been restored thanks to the Malraux law of 1962.

We understand why, since 1928, famous filmmakers have decided to use the medieval scenery of Sarlat as locations for many cult films .

En flânant dans les ruelles pavées de la cité médiévale, pensez à lever les yeux pour observer la richesse architecturale des monuments.

Recently traveling around my rural surroundings I came upon a "yellow-dressed moment". The field was adorned with yellow and it took my breathe away. The richness of color and the light were a once in a lifetime experience. A week later it was gone and faded....Amidst my own sorrows over the dying journey of my aunt/mother this spectacle roused my awe and yielded a wonderful respite.

Yes, Venice is one of those cities where every detail is relevant, however simple it may be.

How to understand a city visited by people from all over the world, who receives fabulous yachts and sea cruises, but who conserves their piers carved in rustic wood with no luxurious detail?

The richness of contrasts and details certainly add even more charm to this unique lifestyle.

It was such a joy to see my first ever adonis blue yesterday, thanks to the kindness of a young photographer who pointed me in the right direction.

I wondered if I'd recognise it from a distance if I couldn't spot the black markings going to the wing edge, but sure enough the richness of the blue really did take my breath away!

A butterfly lands on the shoulder and I

Can't give her other than a goodbye

Cause her destiny is as fragile as strenght

But she says that today flies and it's there the richness

She puts in a minute twenty years of things

Of those wings who knows what will be left in a hundred years

She tells me "I leave the dream to fly to children"

Klępsk is a small village in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, known for its historic wooden church, which is a pearl of style and value of the highest class art.

Church of Visitation Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the most valuable wooden and half-timbered temples in Europe. From the outside it looks modestly, but the interior delights with the richness of polychrome. It was founded in 14th century, and during the following centuries belonged to both Catholics and Protestants. After the Reformation in 1576, the wooden church was taken over by evangelicals (Lutherans) who carried out renovation works. The result of this reconstruction was the creation of a picturesque, varied external body. At the beginning of the 17th century, the church interior was decorated by biblical paintings of polychrome.

Protea is both the botanical name and the English common name of a genus of South African flowering plants, sometimes also called sugarbushes or fynbos. The family is Proteaceae. In local tradition, the protea flower represents change and hope. The extraordinary richness and diversity of species characteristic of the Cape flora are thought to be caused in part by the diverse landscape, where populations can become isolated from each other and in time develop into separate species. The main vectors responsible for the transfer of pollen in protea cultivation are birds, insects, and wind. Some Protea species exhibit both self-pollination and cross-pollination as a method of reproduction. Cross-pollination is preferred, though, as a method of reproduction because it provides genetic diversity in the population. When cultivating proteas, breeders use hand pollination as a controlled method to transfer pollen from one flower to another. Proteas usually flower during spring. The general structure of their flower heads consists of a mass of flowers on a woody receptacle. The ovary is protected by the receptacle, thus is not seen when looking at the flower, but the anthers are present at the top of the flower, which can then easily transfer the pollen to the vectors. 64891

Beypazarı, on the way of the historical Silk Way, is a place full of cultural richness and natural beauties. Today it is a city that reflects the beauty, the pleasure of the Turkish culture with its historical remainings and houses out of Seljuks and Ottoman times, hand works, traditional foods of the palace kitchen. It is located 100 km to the west of Ankara.

One of the joys of Europe is the richness of their public spaces . Bologna had several large open spaces but the irregular Piazza Santo Stefano was a favourite of ours . The little bar seen in the image was a good place to sit and watch the world drift by

Piazza Santo Stefano which is also known as Piazza delle Sette Chiese (Seven churches square) is a piazza of Bologna. It is a pedestrian zone, in a triangular space near the beginning of Via Santo Stefano, both of which are named after the Basilica of Santo Stefano which is located on the piazza.

Often used for cultural events, flea-markets and concerts, it has porticos along both long sides (North-East and South-West) with the Basilica occupying the short (South-East) side. To the left of the Basilica is a complex of buildings joined by the powerful medieval Isolani family. Most of the buildings date from the late fifteenth century

Property of the Crown, then royal residence, Chenonceau Castle is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women, who were all extraordinary and who, for the most part have marked history.

For the historical background, the “Château des Dames” was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, and successively embellished by Diane de Poitiers then Catherine de Medici. Chenonceau was protected from the hardship of the revolution by Madame Dupin.

The iron, but very feminine, fist in the velvet glove has always preserved Chenonceau during times of conflict and war in order to make it forever a place of peace.

Chenonceau Castle has an exceptional museum collection of the Old Masters’ paintings: Murillo, Le Tintoret, Nicolas Poussin, Le Corrège, Rubens, Le Primatice, Van Loo... as well as an extremely rare selection of Flanders Tapestries from the 16th century.

Throughout its history, this emblematic Castle has always attracted talent and inspired great artists. Conveying beauty and combining the elegance of architecture with that of the spirit is also sharing an elegant way of life.

At Chenonceau Castle, the flower display in every sumptuously furnished room adds to its elegance. The room of Five Queens, the living room of Louis XIV, the grand gallery overlooking the River Cher, fabulous kitchens constructed in the piers of the bridge, the Green Cabinet of Catherine de Medici...Step by step, Chenonceau takes you back in time to share its dreams and reveal its secrets.

The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.

The new year is still hidden under a blanket of fog, we seem to float above it like in a balloon. With each new day, the fog will lift a little so that we can discover the surprises that life has in store for us....

What I wish you for the New Year:

Take time to dream,

That's the way to the stars.

Take time to reflect,

that is the source of clarity.

Take time to laugh,

that is the music of the soul.

Take time to live,

that is the richness of life.

Take time to be kind,

that is the gateway to happiness.
