The Kapellbrücke is a covered wooden footbridge spanning the river Reuss diagonally in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. Named after the nearby St. Peter's Chapel,[1] the bridge is unique in containing a number of interior paintings dating back to the 17th century, although many of them were destroyed along with a larger part of the centuries-old bridge in a 1993 fire. Subsequently restored, the Kapellbrücke is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world's oldest surviving truss bridge. It serves as the city's symbol and as one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions.

Lucerne is unique in that its three wooden pedestrian bridges, the 14th-century Hofbrücke (now destroyed) and Kapellbrücke and the 16th-century Spreuerbrücke, all featured painted interior triangular frames. None of Europe's other wooden footbridges have this feature. The paintings, dating back to the 17th century and executed by local Catholic painter Hans Heinrich Wägmann, depict events from Lucerne's history. Of the original 158 paintings, 147 existed before the 1993 fire. After the fire, the remains of 47 paintings were collected, but ultimately only 30 were fully restored.

The wooden boards that held the paintings varied from 150 centimetres (59 in) to 181 centimetres (71 in) wide and 85 centimetres (33 in) to 95 centimetres (37 in) wide. Most of the panels were made from spruce wood boards, and only a few were made from linden wood and maple. The paintings were created during the Counter-Reformation, featuring scenes promoting the Catholic Church. The paintings were sponsored by the city's council members, who, upon sponsoring a panel, were allowed to attribute their personal coat of arms on it. An explanation of each painting was printed below each scene. The paintings ran all along the bridge, dating from the life and death of Lucerne's patron saint St. Leger to the legends of the city's other patron saint St. Maurice.

The birth of a white buffalo calf is a sacred event in First Nations communities and is considered a sign that prayers are being heard and that change is coming. This 2,000 year old prophecy told by the Lakota, says the White Buffalo Calf Woman appeared to a tribal member and told them she would return as a white buffalo calf to restore harmony and spirituality to the world.

I still live, I’m just more active on Instagram mainly because Flickr, to put it bluntly, is dead as shit.

I admire the restoration that was done on this farmhouse in Laketown, Utah. A new foundation was poured next to the house which was then moved. A new porch was added and the windmill rebuilt. This is an active farm with sheep, a large garden, and a roadside produce stand. Big Creek is in the foreground.

There is a single restored moai in this small village, the other moai are ruins.

A former royal residence:

This archaeological complex is composed of two restored ahu which turn their backs on a small bay, where they break the waves with force on the cliffs of lava.

The ahu that can be seen here belong to the late stage of construction of the moai statues, and date back to about the seventeenth century. Together with the nearby ceremonial center of Tahai, they offer a panorama that suggests what must have been the landscape of the island in ancient times, with numerous ahu bordering much of the coast.

It is said that the ariki, or kings, resided temporarily in Hanga Kio’e. In addition, in the surroundings of this place existed a school where the art of carving the talking tablets or kohau rongo rongo was taught.

The site consists of a coastal esplanade of two ahu with a moai each, the Ahu Akapu and the Ahu Hanga Kio’e; as well as a square and a hare moa (chicken coop), which was restored in 1972. There are also several remains of hare paenga (boat houses), which were part of the ceremonial center.

A place of legend:

Hanga Kio’e means “Bay of the Mouse” and it seems that the name comes from an old legend about a widow who entered this small cove with a mouse in the mouth, in mourning for the death of her husband, whose remains were buried here after the ahu (ceremonial platform) was built.

The moai that rises on the Ahu Akapu has a height of 4 meters and is complete, only lacks the pukao (stone hat). On the other hand the Ahu Hanga Kio’e, only has a part of the back erected on the platform, that was rescued from the bay.

Behind the ahu, the terrain forms a small hill that offers beautiful views of the whole, with Hanga Roa in the background and the waves roaring among lava cliffs. Hanga Kio’e is a place seldom frequented by tourists, so it invites you to relax and imagine how life could have been in a village so small and remote.

How did a package restore my faith in humanity?

A happy girl and mom all thanks to (Nicole) flickr.com/photos/murfysflaw/ . An amazing box of clothes was waiting at our door Monday after work. We dusted off the snow and found inside the most beautiful dresses, full of bows and dots. Topping it off was this gorgeous blue coat with fur lining the hood and cuffs and a hand muff with a dog poking out of the top. I squealed with delight yelling to Loren to come and see the awesomeness I was staring at and Larra proceeded to go "pfff pff" her way of saying woof. Instantly, plans started in my head of wearing one dress to her birthday party and another for Christmas.

How did this kind act from a virtual flickr friend restore my faith in humanity? Larra spent 2 months in the NICU and for those of you who have been there you know the hell and happiness that this type of journey brings. Friends and family gifted us beautiful preemie outfits and knitted Larra adorable hats to keep my spirits high. As babies do, Larra eventually outgrew these outfits. After hearing that our neighbors coworker had triplet girls in the NICU just a few months after Larra was discharged I decided that I would give her those clothes. I did this twice because she outgrew more clothes while they were still there. Never a thanks, not a card, not a voicemail not a single word I ever heard from this woman. Eventually I confirmed with one of the nurses that she had in fact, received the clothes and she had. I can't say I am proud that I was bummed that I didn't receive any type of acknowledgement but I have to say I was disappointed.

Tuesday when I was sharing my exciting news of the box that arrived with my co-worker, Randi she said, "this box, it is the universe thanking you You didn't get an immediate acknowledgment but someone just paid it forward to you".

So Nicole, a simple kind gesture rocked my world. Thanks---a million times.

Hello everyone!

I'm so warm and pleased to share with you my last and final project for August, I've been so tirelessly busy working on all of my client projects and I've left the grand one for the end. This beautiful European styled approach to living is phenomenal, a large manor quarters with beautiful gardens surrounding the clean modern interiors throughout. Restored on the inside with a 21st-century intake. 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 dining spaces, 4 living rooms, 4 car garage, and plenty more for my gorgeous clients. Traditional meets Modern design. The gardens are very lush which compliments well with the interior spaces.

The famous “Binns Clock” on the corner of Princes Street and Hope Street in Edinburgh has been restored. The building used to be occupied by the department store Binns which was taken over by House of Fraser in 1953. The clock was installed in 1960 and was an iconic meeting place. The Frasers store closed in 2018 and the building is currently being converted into the Johnnie Walker Experience. The clock restoration work was carried out by the Cumbria Clock Company who also repaired the musical mechanism which plays traditional Scottish tunes every half an hour as the kilted figures march out of the clock. In keeping with tradition, the Highland figures will emerge to the musical accompaniment every seven and 37 minutes past the hour.

The newest private operator bought several electric locomotives from the State company and completely overhauled them in Czech Republic. On the photo 44 083 is acting as a helper machine of a coal train to Bobov dol power plant. In front of the train is a diesel locomotive type LDE2100 (ex CFR 60-0819).

What happens to imagination in a logic world that makes people work until they get sick, long for horrible things that they don´t need and walking around feeling bad about themselves? What happens to the human soul when imagination is forgotten?

This image has been waiting a long time to be edited! I shot it over two years ago. Everything was well planned, from the prop and costume to the location. But I never knew how to edit it. Until today, which I´m very happy for :D The edit isn´t what I thought it would be when I first shot the image, but that´s what´s amazing with Photoshop- that you never know where it will end!

The engineer and conductor of Maine Northern Railway Train 901-31 converse as they pass the restored station at Oakfield, which is home to the Oakfield Railroad Museum, which is the de facto Bangor and Aroostook museum which is open in the summertime.

About 10 cars back a track foreman is keeping a watchful eye as 901-31 crawls over a sun kink on the bridge at the south end of the yard.

I wonder if it will ever be preserved/restored,

I can't imagine how many hours of work it took to bring this car to this gorgeous condition...

The restoration of this car, which sits in a little park across the main street from the city offices, was done as an Eagle Scount project by a young man named Rick Martinez. he completed the project in 1993. Sadly, he only lived from 1978-1998. Quite an accomplishment.
