Another slide restoration taken in Cornwall August 1996, and the image really does live up to the place name.

Harrington, Washington

Hotel Lincoln is located in Harrington, Washington. It is an historic 1902 hotel and is in the process of rehabilitation. It is on the local, state, and national register of historic places. I grew in the same town and my parents owned a different hotel 1/4 mile away.

One thing that always amazes me is seeing these locomotives in person. It's hard to grasp how big they are until you are standing next to them and trying to photograph it!

This unit was restored just a few years later back to it's original paint colors. I'll post a photo I took in the comments below.

I believe that, sometimes, you can see ART "already" even if the piece is still not yet finished ;)

We were pulling out of a small parking area after taking this shot www.flickr.com/photos/17469730@N00/52976731535/in/album-7... when I spotted the top of this building, I needed to investigate and found this lovely scene with these lovely trees and the backdrop of Canola fields and the Cheviot hills in the distance. As we left it rained so heavy I had to pull over. We were far off the beaten track and had found a few compositions in what felt like a remote area .

“Urban Ecosystem Restoration” mural painted by Millo for Street Art For Mankind

From the Street Art For Mankind instagram post:

It features the artist’s signature clumsy character in a surreal setting, attempting to reclaim his space in an urban jungle that has forgotten our primary needs. It poetically and powerfully underscores the importance of green spaces in urban environments. The character demonstrates the strength of these spaces, their transformative impact on our reality, and how they enhance our well-being. It’s a clear invitation to reconnect with nature in our cities.

I do not look at statistics all that often, but I did recently. I saw that just a couple weeks ago or so I had passed 3 million views. Which gave me pause for reflection. I first joined Flickr in 2007. I did not do anything with it for the first year, but as I started figuring out what it was about, I became more active. Since that time, I have shared 1000 photos.

I have enjoyed my interaction with other photographers from all over the world, loved seeing the world through their eyes. I have learned from their work and from their feedback. Awards groups, something not everyone loves, have functioned like small photo contests and have taught me a great deal. I have made friends with people I have never met in person. While not without its frustrations, Flickr has mostly been a positive experience for me, largely because of the photographers I have encountered and the work they have shared.

So thanks, all of you. Thanks for your interest in my work, your encouragement, and for sharing yourselves as you have courageously posted your own work for me to enjoy and learn from.

Here is another shot taken in the Great Smoky Mountains. The Native Americans know these mountains as a spiritually important place and I have to agree with them. I do not get out as much as I would like, but it restores me when I do. I appreciate having a place to share what I find there. Again, thanks to you all.

With its spectacular curve and its typical structure of the 20s, this magnificent heritage staircase located at Printemps Haussmann that responds to the rational lines of Art Deco It was born in the middle of the Roaring Twenties, between 1922 and 1924 under the direction of the architect Georges Wybo It was erected 60 years after the creation of the Department Store following the fires of the New Printemps Haussmann Stores in 1921 After a meticulous restoration, following a closure of nearly 40 years, it returns to an honorary role at the Printemps Haussmann, It is the only structure of the Printemps Haussmann in reinforced concrete. It is unique in the store and offers great lightness thanks to the succession of mirrors along the side walls.

The floating staircase: It is characterized by the absence of visible support points. The ramps are delimited by metalwork with geometric patterns running through the centre of the cage.

The P-shaped railing: This feature underlines Printemps' attachment to its identity and is part of a modern approach to showcasing its heritage

THE ALWAYS READY is a Liverpool class lifeboat built in 1933 by J Samuel White, Cowes, Isle of Wight. She is of double diagonal construction, mahogany on oak and has a Lister diesel engine model 1PWS4. She was built as the Runswick lifeboat and operated there until 1953. In 1934 the name was changed to ROBERT PATTON THE ALWAYS READY after the loss of the Coxswain in a rescue. Sold out of service in 1954, she became the Sharpness pilot boat until 1978. After several owners she was bought by her present owner in 2007 and has since undergone a major restoration.

32678 is an A1x 'Terrier' Class 0-6-0 standard gauge steam locomotive. Built by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway, it first entered service on the 23rd July 1880.

Between then and 1923 and the formation of the Southern Railway, the loco had already run almost a million miles!

Now owned by the Terrier Trust, the loco operates on the Kent & East Sussex Railway but is currently undergoing restoration.

(59/365) Best viewed Large. When we win the Euromillions (positive thinking) we'll buy this half mile long strip of land adjacent to the sea canal at Blennerville, Tralee & restore these old buildings as holiday lets. The only inhabitants right now are few old goats & Starlings (3 on the roof) looking for nest sites. Who wouldn't want to wake up to views of Otters & Cormorants feeding in the canal, huge flocks of Golden Plover wheeling overhead & the haunting cry of Curlew echoing all around. HFF everyone!

Couldnt begin to count the number of times I've been to Herringfleet, along with hordes of other photographers, but its such a lovely spot it's always worth the walk even if every possible compostion has been shot a thousand times. On last nights visit there was a marsh harrier hunting right by me, so it was worth it just to see that.

Last Saturday (12.04.2025) on the occasion of Lazarov Day (a public holiday, 1 week before Easter), BDZ - Bulgarian State Railways organized an attraction trip with the oldest steam locomotive in operation at the moment - 26.26, manufactured in the distant 1908 by "Henschel & Sohn" - Kassel. Back in the late 70s, the machine was declared a museum exhibit, but was restored for operation only in the late 80s. In the 90s, it was abandoned and did not operate for a long time. After a long period of restoration in 2022, , it was put back into operation. Since then, it has only served a few attraction trains to Bankya. Unfortunately, there are almost no wagons from its era left, and the few that are available are in a tragic condition. Personally, for me, this locomotive does not fit in at all with any of the BDZ rolling stock at the moment. Even the wagons of the Corona Express (the royal wagons) are untypically larger for it. I really hope that in the future, several two-axle wagons will be found which will fit better to this wonderful machine!

Now The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington. Really a great restoration.

Kanaka Creek Regional Park is a regional park of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, located in the city of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, flanking both sides of Kanaka Creek from its confluence with the Fraser River just east of Haney and extending approximately 11 km (7 mi) up the creek to just south of the community of Webster's Corners. The Maple Ridge Fairgrounds are just east of the lower regions of the park, beyond them is the community of Albion. Derby Reach Regional Park is just across the Fraser in Langley.

A variety of plants and animals can be located in all 3 areas of the park and it is a popular spot for both Black Bear and Salmon populations. Kanaka Creek Regional Park has a rich history- the first purchase of land for the park by the City of Maple Ridge occurred in the late 1970s, and the land is the traditional unceded territory of the Katzie, Kwantlen, Matsqui, Musqueam, Semiahmoo, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. Recently, misuse of the land has negatively changed parts of the park. To fix this issue, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks implemented a 20 year management plan in 2004 with the assistance of the Katzie First Nation among other groups, and the University of Victoria (UVIC) completed a restoration project in areas of the park in 2022.

Recreation

Kanaka Creek is widely recognized for its natural beauty, as well as recreational appeal. According to a local newspaper, the Daily Hive, Kanaka is the 8th most popular park in metro Vancouver, with 610,500 visitors in 2022. The park features walking, hiking, and biking trails publicly available to anyone who wants to use them. Along these walks there is plenty of flora and fauna to view. The park also has a lake in which visitors can fish, or canoe. The park is wheelchair accessible, and equipped with parking and public washrooms.

The 400 ha. park has three main areas. The Riverfront area adjacent to the Fraser and BC Hwy 7 has picnic tables and a boat-launch, suitable for launching canoes and kayaks for navigating the slow-moving waters of Kanaka Creek up as far as the 240th Street bridge. The Riverfront Trail winds along this stretch of the creek and has a number of three-story wooden viewing towers. Above 240th Street the stream is shallower and full of snags and not suitable for boating. Above that a popular swimming hole with slickrock slides is at Cliff Falls. There are twin falls on Kanaka Creek, one on each of its upper fork. Much of the upper area of the park is heavily forested, though hiking along the creek beds is feasible and a number of wooden walkways through the forest and along the creek have been established in the area.

Stourbridge Town Clock

'It's probably the best-known landmark in the town and was even made here! Built in 1857, the grade two listed town clock had a full restoration in 2007. The column was built at the Stourbridge Ironworks and was designed by engineer William Milward. For many years the clock was painted green but for the renovation, the decision was made to change the colour to dark blue and gold, the colours of the Stourbridge coat of arms.' www.stourbridge.com/stourbridge_town_clock.htm
