History

Restoration House was originally two medieval buildings (1454 and 1502–22) with a space between.

They were joined together in 1640-1660 (tree ring data from roof) by inserting a third building between the two, to create a larger house.

The first owner of the completed house was Henry Clerke, a lawyer and Rochester MP. Clerke caused further works in 1670, the refacing of the entrance facade, the Great Staircase and other internal works.

The house was then bought by William Bockenham. It was owned by Stephen T. Aveling in the late 19th century, and he wrote a history of the house which was published in Vol. 15 of "Archaeologia Cantiana".

The house was purchased for £270,000[7] by the English entertainer Rod Hull, in 1986, to save it from being turned into a car park; and he then spent another £500,000 restoring it.

It was taken by the Receiver in 1994 to cover an unpaid tax bill.

The current owners over the past decade have uncovered decoration schemes from the mid 17th century, which reveal the fashionable taste of the period, much influenced by the fashions on the continent.

Charles Dickens

According to the biographer John Forster, the novelist Charles Dickens, who lived nearby, used Restoration House as a model for Miss Havisham's Satis House in Great Expectations; the name "Satis House" belongs to the house where Rochester MP, Sir Richard Watts, entertained Queen Elizabeth I - it is now the administrative office of King's School, Rochester.

On September 20, 2017, Edna Lockwood's existing topsides were lifted by crane to sit atop her new hull so shipwrights can begin to marry the two pieces and continue her historic restoration.

My Great Uncle donated money to some newly build structure in China where the tiled walls will be constructed entirely out of photos. As a donor, my uncle gets to choose an ancestor to remember & he chose his parents (my great grandparents).

What he asked me to do was crop out everyone else, move the couple closer together, and create a solid background. I hope black is okay since I saw a sample of the tiles & they were white :(

UPDATE: 12.14.2007:

Well.... apparently it's "too dark", so I have to redo it with a white background.

UPDATE #2 - 12.19.2007:

So what they have done was print the photo with their own printer. OF COURSE it's not going to look great if you print it yourself with some low-end equipment! My mom called me today to let me know that I don't have to redo it since they printed it elsewhere - :😌:

On September 20, 2017, Edna Lockwood's existing topsides were lifted by crane to sit atop her new hull so shipwrights can begin to marry the two pieces and continue her historic restoration.

More than 100 CBMM members joined Boatyard Manager Michael Gorman on Thursday, October 13, as he described how shipwrights and apprentices are shaping and carving the new hull for Edna Lockwood like they did more than 127 years ago, while enjoying drinks from a local brewery.

Guests were also asked to share what excited them the most about the historic restoration project. To learn more, visit cbmm.org or ednalockwood.org.

Actually it was still a good visit despite this scaffolding,.. there were many other parts of the castle not covered like this.

Some step what I made:

1. original

2. turn sepia to bw : Image/Mode/Grayscale (give best result)

3. fix damages and remove scratches: Main tool for scratches was Stamp tool. Main tool for damaged areas was copy paste with polyconal lasso.

4. turn bw to sepia: gradient map

5. build old style photo paper: Shape of edge is made with noise. Rest effect with Layer style tool.

(I using Photoshop 6.0)
