PHOTOGRAPHY:
The best time to take a shot of the Treasury is in the afternoon.
Before noon, there will be a mixed light condition (Sunlight & shadow cast from the opposite mountain).
Later there will be a Uniform Daylight covering the entire scene.
The TREASURY:
What is seen here is only the first & second floors, as the ground floor is buried under tons of mud, sand, and rocks carried by rain floods over the centuries.
The Treasury (Al-Khazna). A huge structure and magnificent architecture are considered the main site attractions at Petra.
Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Nabataeans, it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan's most-visited tourist attraction. It lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah (identified by some as the biblical Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains that form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It is believed that Petra was home to roughly 30,000 people and was abandoned in the year 106 A.D. Site has been a UNESCO World Heritage since 1985.
Petra is best visited from October to April to avoid the heat of the desert.

On the higher mountains the first snow has fallen, but here around this meander of river the last colors of autumn are resisting. I think it deserved a photo.
Sulle montagne più alte è caduta la prima neve, ma intorno a questo meandro del fiume resistono le ultime cromie autunnali; credo meritassero una foto.

Senate Concurrent Resolution No.3 of the 1927 legislative session designated the mockingbird as the State Bird of Florida. Not only a Florida favorite, it is the State Bird of Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
The northern mockingbird is a medium-sized songbird measuring about 23 cm (about 9 in.) and weighing about 50 g (about 2 oz.), with longish legs and tail and a slightly curved bill.
The grayish-brown color, two parallel white wing bars and broad white wing patch, which is easily seen in flight, distinguish this bird from its cousins, the brown thrasher and the catbird.
Food Habits
The mockingbird is omnivorous. About half its diet consists of arthropods, including beetles, ants, bees, wasps, and grasshoppers, but it will also eat earthworms and small lizards. These aggressive feeders can often be observed chasing down a grasshopper on a lawn, running, hopping and lunging at the prey, or flying just above the ground maneuvering behind a large wasp. They are also fond of zebra butterflies (Heliconius charitonius), which are commonly available in southern Florida. In the fall or whenever available at a feeder, the mockingbird enjoys eating fruits, both wild and cultivated.

Mount Rainier is the highest mountain of the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest, and the highest mountain in the state of Washington. It is a large active stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle. It is the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 ft (4,392 m). Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list. Because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could potentially produce massive lahars that could threaten the entire Puyallup River valley.
Mount Rainier was first known by the Native Americans as Talol, or Tacoma or Tahoma, from the Lushootseed word [təqʷúʔbəʔ] ("mother of waters") spoken by the Puyallup. Another interpretation is that "Tacoma" means "larger than Mount Baker". This comes from the Skagit "Ta", larger, plus "Koma (Kulshan)", Mount Baker. Other names originally used include Tahoma, Tacobeh, and Pooskaus. The current name was given by George Vancouver, who named it in honor of his friend, Rear Admiral Peter Rainier. The map of the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804-1806 refers to it as "Mt. Regniere".
Although "Rainier" had been considered the official name of the mountain, Theodore Winthrop, in his posthumously published 1862 travel book The Canoe and the Saddle, referred to the mountain as "Tacoma" and for a time, both names were used interchangeably, although "Mt. Tacoma" was preferred in the city of Tacoma.
In 1890, the United States Board on Geographic Names declared that the mountain would be known as "Rainier". Following this in 1897, the Pacific Forest Reserve became the Mount Rainier Forest Reserve, and the national park was established three years later. Despite this, there was still a movement to change the mountain's name to "Tacoma" and Congress was still considering a resolution to change the name as late as 1924.
In the excitement leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII, John Hickenlooper, Governor of Colorado, named 53 mountains after the 53 members of the Denver Broncos. In response, the Washington State Senate passed a resolution on Friday, January 31, 2014, temporarily renaming the mountain Mount Seattle Seahawks. The resolution expired on midnight Monday, February 3, 2014.

Great start to the year with my boys... This was a fun one, "keepin it counthry lads!"... sketch was actually from last summer so it's a little different from what I'm playing with at the minute but nice to not think so much and just get funky. Last year was good, but this year is going to be great, at a new stage in my life and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who I painted with last year again and people I'm going to paint with this year for the first time.
Happy New Year to ye ;D

Saturday Self-Challenge: take a photo that represents your "New Year's Resolution".
Even though I always make resolutions, I never seem to keep them. Well, it's going to change this year!
Here are a few resolutions I've made for 2019:
1. To enjoy more time with my family
2. To exercise more (how many times have I made THAT resolution!)
3. To improve my photography skills, and...
4. To be more creative!
Happy First Weekend, Everyone!
"The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, held on 25 November, marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, ending on 10 December, Human Rights Day. While lockdown measures aim to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, reports have shown an alarming increase in the pandemic of violence against women during this time. In May 2020, an article in the British Medical Journal1 stated that “the United Nations Population Fund has warned that continuing lockdowns for six months could result in an extra 31 million cases of gender-based violence globally”." (www.2020yearofthenurse.org/story/international-day-for-th...)
"The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden." (Wikipedia)
I'll be honest: until this year I hadn't heard of this day. Although it's so important to be aware of it.
