Really distant. One of a handful of pictures in my stream that I didn't shoot but I spent an hour cleaning it up before posting so I've got a little bit of skin in the game. I don't recognize this guy but no wonder since it was shot 40 to 50 years before I was born. Going through an old family album my wife found an envelope full of negatives today. Oddly enough the neg was a 35mm and 35mm didn't even exist when this was made so it must be a picture of a picture. Kodak PLUS-X Pan 5062 Safety Film.
Uhhh. It's a day later and we discovered another container of old pics. A little cardboard box. The pictures were old B&W originals and there was a receipt dated 1978 for a bunch of Kodak Plus-X film. By 1978 I had been into photography for 14 years and had my own darkroom where I did B&W and Cibachrome prints as well as color slides. I don't recall shooting the early relative's pictures onto the Plus-X negative film but I surmise I must have done it and that explains why I now find myself possessing them. I just never got around to making prints from the negs. Fast forward to 2019 and we "discover" the old negatives. I doubt that many of you will share my interest in these pictures but I'm fascinated by them. I may attempt a few more digital conversions of my old negs in future

Ray Lonsdale's "Relative Treats" was formerly exhibited at Artsbank in Saltburn, but sadly this closed down and now the Sculpture has hopefully found a new permanent home at the Welfare Park at South Hetton
During this Chinese New Year , family will get together , starting from the reunion dinner during the eve. Then staying up throughout the night aka guarding the night so that your loved one and parents will have longvetity....
Throughout the chinese new year , family will do home visiting to relatives and friends , with a pair of mandrain orange in their hand.
Kids during this period as they will received ang bao from the married adults. Ang bao aka red packet is a chinese new year tradition whereby the married will put $$$ inside it as a blessing.
One of the event during this festive period is River Hongbao.

River Hongbao 2013 welcomes the Year of the Snake at The Float@ Marina Bay from 8th to 16th February 2013. 2013 also marks the 27th consecutive year since River Hongbao was first held. Organized by Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCCI), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and People’s Association (PA), this annual event has long since become an integral part of Singapore’s Chinese New Year celebrations, attracting locals and tourists to come forth and immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere which is open to public with free admission.
This year, River Hongbao promises an even more vibrant atmosphere than before with larger-than-life lantern displays, intricate handicrafts, and crowd pleasing local delights and foreign delicacies from Guangdon at the largest outdoor Food Street in Singapore. Visitors to The Float will also be entertained by a myriad of activities from the Fringe activities happening throughout the grounds, amusement rides, carnival games to nightly Main Stage Shows featuring local performer and foreign talents performers all the way from China, Taiwan, Malaysia and our South East Asian neighbours like Malaysia and Indonesia!
Working with Guangdong
As part of efforts to further cultural cooperation with Guangdong Province, River Hongbao will be partnering the Department of Culture and Department of Tourism of Guangdong Province to bring the region’s highlights to Singapore. Visitors to The Float will be entertained by the Guangdong Arts Troupe, which comprises of performers from the highly acclaimed Nanfang Song and Dance Company and acrobats from Shantou Acrobatic and Magic Troupe. Guangdong is also well known for its popular Cantonese cuisine so expect your tastebuds to be tantalized by the region’s delicacies available at the River Hongbao Food Street. Handicrafts from from different provinces of Guangdong like silk scarves from Shunde, Guangzhou bone and jade sculptures, Foshan paper cuttings and souvenirs from The Musuem of Dr Sun Yat Sen will also be available for visitors to bring a small piece of Guangdong back with them.
Lanterns
Lanterns are the biggest part of River Hongbao and this year, we aim to wow visitors again as the scale of lanterns reach new heights and lengths! Designed locally and handcrafted by China craftsmen, the Float will be lit up by the not to be missed 12 Zodiac lanterns, 18 meter tall God of Wealth. A major highlight which sets a first for River Hongbao will be 2 Giant Screen Lanterns measuring 30m long and 10m tall! Another first will be the constructing of a Chinese style bridge which will not only be a lantern display but also serve as a vantage point as visitors mount it to get a clearer view of the entire Float. Apart from these new innovations, visitors will also experience nostalgia with the Wayang inspired lantern piece which will feature lantern puppets as well as real life puppet shows at selected timings throughout the day.
River Hongbao Food Street
Continuing with 2012’s success, River Hongbao’s Food Street will bring back last year’s winning local fare like Char Kway Teow, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Fried Hokkien Noodles, Satay Bee Hoon, Oyster Omelette, as well as Asian street favourites from Taiwan and Thailand. Guangdong chefs will also be flown in to entice palates with popular Guangdong delicacies like Grilled Quail’s Eggs, Soup Dumplings, Oysters steamed with garlic mince, Traditional double boiled soups and many more.

River Hongbao’s Light Up Ceremony announces the beginning of 9 continuous days of festivities on 8th February with a wonderful fireworks display and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gracing the event as the Guest-of-Honor. For the Countdown Night on 9th February, Minister for Prime Minister’s Office Mr Lim Swee Say, will join the crowds in the countdown to ushering in the Year of the Snake with another fireworks spectacular.
Our local and foreign performers from Guangdong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and many more will entertain the crowds with music, song and dance at the Main Stage nightly.
“Local Talent Night” on 13th February will feature our very local talents with focus on local compositions, while “Youth Night” on 14th February showcases up and coming young talents as well as student performers. “SFCCA Night” on 15th February will see clan associations take centrestage with both chinese and dialect performances! “Harmony Night” on 16th February brings together performers of different ethnic groups, old and new immigrant groups in a grand finale as River Hongbao wrap up yet another year of festivities.
Memory Collection Drive
This year, River Hongbao will work together with the Singapore Memory Project (SMP) to collect memories of Chinese New Year celebrations in Singapore. Visitors can share their memories of the festive traditions or past River Hongbao events at the Memory Collection Drive. For memories contributed, they will receive specially designed hongbao packets, while stocks last. These memories will enable future generations of Singaporeans to understand the collective journey of our nation and the different facets of Singapore. Members of the public can also submit photos and stories via singaporememory.sg or the SG Memory iOS App.

This morning, February 20, our beloved cousin Berthold passed away peacefully at home in Germany, after a year-long battle with cancer, just ten days short of his 51st birthday. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered for the joyous time we spent together.
During the last night of his visit at our place in 2002, we had the most awesome Northern Lights show one can imagine, and when he left us this morning for a better place, the sky above us lit up again in all its grandeur, which had not happened for a long time.
And I received word, that on the day he passed, there was such a magnificently strong rainbow stretched for a while between the two towns where he lived and worked, with one end terminating in the window of his workplace [from the eyewitness' perspective], that almost everybody came out of their buildings and watched it in awe.
What remarkable, consolatory incidents for those left behind.
The Lord willing, we shall meet again some day.

From the golden spiral in the whirlpool galaxy and our very own milkway galaxy, to the golden mean of an athletic models' proportions, to the divine proportions found in a beautiful models' face, to the optimum curves and compositions of my fine art photography, I have found the Fibonacci sequence and golden number Phi to be omni-present. And so it makes sense that I found the golden spiral to naturally emerge in my physics theory--Dynamic Dimensions Theory--which postulates that the fourth dimension is expanding at the rate of c relative to the three spatial dimensions, giving rise to relativity, the quantum, and time and all its arrows and asymmetries. Yes! I have a pPh.D. in physics! Photons of ligth are but matter which surfs the fourth expanding dimension en route to creating a beautiful photograph.
And yes I am working on a book combining my philosophies on Phi, fine art photography, physics, the golden mean and number, the divine proportion, and the natgural emergence of the Fibonacci numbers in life and beauty. The book, filled with my photography aongside classic poetry, epic physics, and philosophy, will be called The Golden Hero's Odyssey. :)

This is my paternal grandmother, Martha. She was always such a natural beauty. She died in March at the age of 90.
Below is an excerpt from the homily that was read at her funeral. It really tells so much of who she was. What a lady :)

"...I have known Martha over the course of my ministry here in Lincolnton at Emmanuel the last 20 years. A person of depth and integrity. A person of wisdom and humility. A person of joy and mindful of the gift of life. A person anchored in faith and surrounded by love.
While I experienced her only in her waning years, they were far from waning. I’ve been told her middle name was “go” and from my encounters I believe it. She had traveled around the world: Europe, South America, the Far East and Greece.
She and her husband Stuart were married in 1944 after a romantic courtship. After the war they settled in Florida in Avon Park with friends. The boys were born and a life full of adventure began. There are stories of the Ward boys around Lake Lotela; horses running loose; birds encountering BB guns; explosives and rockets.
This was adventure, but things were not without challenge. Martha’s husband battled manic-depressive episodes and took his own life in 1962. Sixteen months later, the family came back to Lincolnton.
I’ve heard stories of how she cared for her mother, stories of how she cared for her four boys, and her grandchildren.
Each of you carry special memories – gifts of the ways she touched you and shaped your life. Her son, Mike, shared with me this wonderful description:
She was a “Lady” but not proud in any pretentious way. She never fell to vulgarity or coarseness. She was a “tomboy”. She could fish and manage horses with the best of men. She could drive a stick-shift ’59 Chevy convertible and back up a trailer with a boat. She would cook any kind of game we brought home including once a soft shelled snapping turtle that ended up on the floor after the carcass, twitching with spasms in the searing frying pan, scared her momentarily out of her wits. She could drive interstates fearlessly alone into her 80’s. She was brave. She was almost never irritable and absolutely never abusive. I never knew her to make someone feel bad about themselves even when exacting a measure of discipline. She was a lousy disciplinarian having faith that the lessons of the world would teach that. We knew we were dead wrong when we let her down and usually mended our ways when it was obvious we had. Dad, Martha, our uncles, aunts, and extended family’s examples were enough.
Martha had a love that walked her through the loss of her husband, of two sons, a loss of mobility the last few years, yet revealed fortitude and strength of character. She had a love that responded to the messiness of the world with compassion and forgiveness..."
