The small chalet of Bachals near Valmorel

Took this early morning capture under moody skies in the Blackwater Refuge area on the eastern shore of Maryland. Here the water is only about an inch deep or so over the black muck of the marsh ... could lose a shoe walking in there ;))

The 57,000-acre Bosque is a mixture of high desert, wetlands and bosque providing a year-round refuge for wildlife and seasonally for over wintering migratory waterfowl. Hiking trails and a 14-mile auto tour loop provide access for viewing the wildlife. We had heavy snow on the last day of our visit and spotted this forlorn looking adult Bald Eagle sitting out the weather.

There were lots of these along Black Point Wildlife Drive.

Probably one of my last shots of Dudley tunnel (last used 1993) as it'll be out of bounds for construction work soon - looking towards the southern portal, with two platelayers' refuges caught in the light.

Low light and low tide at Kirkcaldy beach

"Le refuge", by Stéphane Thidet at Museum Voorlinden, is a shelter that attracts you with its cozy and inviting aspects while you hear the sound of a continuously pouring rain. Approaching this mysterious installation suddenly reverses the perception of the comfort zone. It's actually raining inside of the shelter.

I missed yesterday. So Day 4 of Save the Elephants Celebration. An image of an elephant calf seeking reassurance and refuge under it's mother. Elephants have such an amazing bond with their babies. It's so sweet and heartwarming.

Liked this crop of trees coming out of the tall grass and the near silhouette lighting.

This sunset was taken at the Bittern Marsh in the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. My goal today was to capture a sunset off the viewing platform that was right behind me. I had already set up my tripod and d500 for the sunset. Then I turned around and saw way better color behind me. I went back to my truck and pulled out my Nikon 7100 and took a few pictures of this view at the Bittern Marsh.

It probably wasn't smart the to leave my camera behind, but I was the only one in the refuge and I would hear someone coming way before they got to where I was shooting. The clouds in the East were way better looking then the ones in the West and I didn't want to miss them. I did get some amazing views off the platform, but they didn't have this kind orange glow.

Every home has a place we return to:

the spot where you breathe deeper, drop your shoulders, and come back into yourself.

A place that doesn’t ask anything of you.

That is Refuge.

This collection was created for people who move through the world carrying a lot, loving deeply, and needing a space that loves them back. Refuge is about grounding.

About safety.

About a room that finally feels like it sees you.

On the day we went to Holy Island the wind was strong enough to rip the car door out of my hand, and another day with challenging light .

We parked up on the causeway to take some images, if you are going there only certain times when you are able to cross, we had to consult the local council website for safe crossing times as this floods at high tide. My foreground is part of a passing place on the road you can see on the sea how strong the wind was.

The refuge is a place of safety for those pilgrims who choose to walk across. The line of poles marks a path and the refuge is a place to escape the tide if you get caught out by the incoming tide. I did shoot some images of the causeway to come at some point.

Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge has 18,000 acres of wetlands, open water, and meadows in the "bottoms" of Bear Lake Valley, Idaho. This view stretches about 30 miles to hills in Utah at the south end of Bear Lake.
