Been together since 1997, making the annual 3,000 mile migratory trip returning to Seney each year. Thanks ABJ & Fe.
Here's a great article on the couple:

Marnie and I visited this lovely local nature reserve, where it's shady but usually very muddy, many lakes close together in 26 acres. No mud on the narrow paths this day, so great has been the dry and heat for such a long time.
There are a number of 'pools', this being the largest, surrounded by fringes of woodland, wetlands and a wildflower meadow, making it an oasis for wildlife. This is the biggest of the pools and we walked all the way round it, and a couple of others pools too. I have so many photographs of the various beautiful places along the way, it was magic. I saw only TWO other people, in all the time we were out, and they hardly noticed us, as they were so engrossed in each other 😊 !

The family is our refuge and our springboard; nourished on it, we can advance to new horizons. In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future.

A Spotted Towhee that had flown into my climbing rose bush. I was surprised I was able to get several good shots of him despite the slow shutter speed. That dang fixed f11.
But I do like a bit of motion blur and he was in the process of getting ready to turn around.
I kept the ISO down as much as I could so the noise was not an issue this time

What a great opportunity to see this well known couple first thing on our visit to Seney Wildlife Refuge. They've apparently been together since 1997, making the annual 3,000 mile migratory trip returning to Seney each year. Here's a great article on the couple:

Ali and I visited the Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge last weekend and came upon an unusual and unexpected encounter.
Pictured here is a Fallow Deer Buck that was spotted off road in one of the typical marshy areas at the refuge.
'Twas an interesting find....but never thought I'd see one down in South Louisiana. Guess they were imported in for various reasons.
So, I'm just documenting it here for the record.
Like my ole friend Brody always says........"When it comes to Nature......Ya just never know !"
Thanks for takin' a look.
Have a great ending to your first week in 2023.
Klipspringer, Oreotragus oreotragus, enjoying a shady vantage point on a hot summer day. Klipspringers are a small species of African antelope whose name is derived from two Afrikaans words: Klip for rock and springer for leaper. The dark patches below their eyes are pheromone glands. Seen in the Kopje exhibit of Africa Rocks at the San Diego Zoo.

This white-fronted goose was just standing perfectly still in a ditch at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge, not 15 feet from my car. Don't know if it was ill, or just tired of the noisy goose crowds.
Today is national nature photography day. We spotted this beautiful Doe this morning at Seney wildlife refuge. We are on the road heading home.
