Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge was at one time homesteads and cattle ranches. Dahl Lake was drained in order to create more grazing land. Its mostly been restored back to its natural state but evidence of old homesteads can still be seen.

I found this little space under these branches, just big enough to barely fit a person. It seemed like such a safe place, protected by thorns and branches.
I secretly love returning home from shooting with scratch marks all over. It makes me feel like I've overcome a challenge.
Un chat du refuge d'où viennent Rambo et Lewis. Les chats restants sont tous sauvages et peureux, j'espère qu'ils trouveront néanmoins des adoptants.
A cat from the shelter where my dogs Rambo and Lewis come from. The remaining cats are all wild and shy but I hope that nevertheless they will find a good home

I've been wanting to shoot photos of this church for years and finally got the chance a few months back. The thing that struck me most was the tranquility of this place. Although abandoned by its members it sits proud, strong, and peaceful. Thankfully there is a local movement to raise money to put a new roof on the building to stem the decay.
A view of Flat Creek, looking upstream from the multiagency visitor center in Jackson, Wyoming. The fence marks the boundary of the National Elk Refuge. The foothills of the Gros Ventre Mountains appear in the background.
Taken last month when the extreme low tides enabled people to walk out to Conister Rock for a short time.

Looking at the high this clouds of late afternoon sky from Albuquerque, I determined that the sunset hues at this refuge located 50 miles to the south of Albuquerque would be a good backdrop for any flying birds present. This range was also reported to be open... free from the many Covid restrictions imposed on state residents. It's an additional 50 miles to access the more famous National Refuge (Bosque del Apache) to the south. The cutivated seed-grain provision is the main feature that draws in so many wintering birds to ourmany refuges located anong the Rio Grande. The afternoon spectacle here includes many views of the Cranes and mixed waterfowl travelling between the various seed grain fields. At dusk they will all depart these fields to their selected roost areas... many of which are located within the refuge boundaries. This is a view from the tour-route road of Sandhill Cranes gathering corn grain from flattened crops. The fields are pregressively machine flattened as the winter season progresses to afford the smaller birds better access to the grain.

I traveled for four days to reach this place. Place where Ejina or Populus diversifolia thrives well. This swamp is in the middle of its desert. a beautiful place worth the visit.
Bushtit, actually...

Up high in a quiet place.

Amidst the branches, up high, with the wind moving the leaves, there's a quiet place. Still enjoying our test run of the great @wildling.shoes !
