Almost every weekend I drove down to Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park. Usually on a Saturday morning and usually arriving a few minutes before sunrise. With no camping in the area it is extremely quiet and usually I would not see anyone else. From this vantage point I watched the birds, beavers, and even coyotes chasing a mother deer and fawns. Soon this river will begin to freeze up and the road I drive down to access this point will be gated closed. However, until that gate is closed I will probaby be there again next Saturday morning.

Been together since 1997, making the annual 3,000 mile migratory trip returning to Seney each year. Thanks ABJ & Fe.
Here's a great article on the couple:

Marnie and I visited this lovely local nature reserve, where it's shady but usually very muddy, many lakes close together in 26 acres. No mud on the narrow paths this day, so great has been the dry and heat for such a long time.
There are a number of 'pools', this being the largest, surrounded by fringes of woodland, wetlands and a wildflower meadow, making it an oasis for wildlife. This is the biggest of the pools and we walked all the way round it, and a couple of others pools too. I have so many photographs of the various beautiful places along the way, it was magic. I saw only TWO other people, in all the time we were out, and they hardly noticed us, as they were so engrossed in each other 😊 !

A Spotted Towhee that had flown into my climbing rose bush. I was surprised I was able to get several good shots of him despite the slow shutter speed. That dang fixed f11.
But I do like a bit of motion blur and he was in the process of getting ready to turn around.
I kept the ISO down as much as I could so the noise was not an issue this time

Look on my suffering and deliver me,
for I have not forgotten your law.
Defend my cause and redeem me;
preserve my life according to your promise.
Salvation is far from the wicked,
for they do not seek out your decrees.
Your compassion, Lord, is great;
preserve my life according to your laws.

What a great opportunity to see this well known couple first thing on our visit to Seney Wildlife Refuge. They've apparently been together since 1997, making the annual 3,000 mile migratory trip returning to Seney each year. Here's a great article on the couple:

One of about 23 wildlife refuges in Washintion state. There was construction on the days I went so most trails closed except drive thru. I did see one poor mangy coyote eating something in the wetlands. I video recorded her.
We have a catalpa tree in our back yard that the northern flickers hang out on when the wind blows briskly out of the north. This male was making his way up the tree to a more private perch away from the prying long lenses of the paparazzi.

The wetlands of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. A place the wild horses like to graze and shore birds nest. The horses are seen off in the distance. This was taken on Woodland Trail. Woodland Trail is an easy 1.6 mile walking and bicycling paved trail. I think it's wheelchair accessible also. It starts out flat but there are some inclines once you get back into the trail. Bring insect repellent which is also available in the park store. The mosquitoes are pretty bad. The fence is probably to keep the idiots out. I actually saw a sign that read "Do Not Attempt To Ride The Wild Horses". #NPS #ChincoteagueNationalWildlifeRefuge #wetlands #WildHorses #WoodlandTrail #green #vert #Grün #grass #Gras #herbe #horses

Today is national nature photography day. We spotted this beautiful Doe this morning at Seney wildlife refuge. We are on the road heading home.
In case you missed my opening post, I'm just back from a long van trip and am reliving the trip by posting a few images from each chronological location. I started in Durango, Co and my first stop was Dugway, Utah, located south of Salt Lake City. After one night there, I headed to Bear Lake Migratory Bird Refuge, located north of Salt Lake City. I found a nice RV park near the park and spent one night there. Here's an image of sunrise at the Refuge. There were a lot (thousands) of cliff Swallows, lots of Clark and Eared Grebes, Avocets, Stilts, and a variety of ducks among other species. The Refuge is a long loop road that surrounds a canal and wetlands. After posting a couple of more images from here I'll be off to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, just passing through on my way to Palouse. (I had a "Plan A" itinerary that was completely flexible until later in the month, when I was meeting my friend Sid from Seattle to head to the San Juan Islands via ferry. What I'm trying to say is that every day until meeting up with Sid I would decide where to head the night before the next day. As it turned out, I had never seen Palouse so that destination won out over spending more time in the Tetons and Yellowstone, where I had been many times.) Birds to follow!
Strange and unusual sounds abound at the San Louis National Wildlife Refuge. Have a look and listen at www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Bittern/sounds .
