A Red crab was running fast to escape from a chasing dog on the sea beach sandy surface to reach a safer hole. I loved the way it ran engaging all legs except the first pair. The ever alert pose with projecting stocked compound eyes made some character in the action sequences. Pics was taken from Frasergunj sea beach, West Bengal, India.

The red iris that gives the Red-eyed Vireo its name doesn't develop until the end of the birds' first winter. Then the brown iris the birds were born with becomes dull brick red to bright crimson in different individuals.

Wikipedia: The red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey that breeds throughout most of North America, from the interior of Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies. It is one of the most common members within the genus of Buteo in North America or worldwide. The red-tailed hawk is one of three species colloquially known in the United States as the "chickenhawk", though it rarely preys on standard-sized chickens.

Red box

Inside this little red box is a small and very precious porcelain fairy...a wonderful little keepsake. SEE THE FAIRY IN THE FIRST COMMENT BOX.

This little fairy (3" tall) was made by my very dear friend Glad who is sadly no longer with us. This special fairy always has pride of place on our Christmas tree.

Glad used to teach the art of producing and decorating porcelain dolls, she used to call her pupils her 'dolly ladies'. It must have been a fantastic class to attend because Glad was so full of fun, such a jolly lady and a lover of art...all 4ft 11 inches of her!

The Red-breasted Merganser is a shaggy-headed diving duck also known as the "sawbill"; named for its thin bill with tiny serrations on it that it uses to keep hold of slippery fish.

Males are decked out with a dark green shaggy head, a red bill and eye, and a rusty chest.

Females lack the male's bright colors but also don the same messy do. It parades around coastal waters and large inland lakes in Winter.

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see!

Sometimes you can't be at a certain place when you want to.. or other circumstances prevent that.. so you don't always get what you want or pre-visualized...

So I have to show a picture of last years rut..

A wild red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) enjoying a treat at the artifical water hole at the photo hide. The red squirrel sheds its coat twice a year, switching from a thinner summer coat to a thicker, darker winter coat with large ear-tufts between August and November. You can see the first long hairs on his ears.
