This cardinal landed in my backyard while I was having a cigarette. I ran inside to get my camera, thinking it wasn't going to be there when I got back. But it was! So I started taking pictures of it. I kept moving closer and closer (I was flat on the ground shimmy-ing military style. My dad would have been proud.) and I swear my lens was only like 2 feet away from it. It sat there for a good 15 minutes until I flew away. It was funny cause every time I snapped the camera it would change a pose. If there was a Top Model for birds, he totally would have won.

Red Merino wool and deep pink variegated German superwash wool are crocheted together to form the neckband of this scarflette. Then ruffles are crocheted around all edges in the deep pink yarn and a 1940's vintage flower button is used as a closure.
Red Dead Nettle / lamium purpureum. Stanton Canal, Derbyshire. 11/04/20.
This was growing at the foot of the canal bridge wall, (a different location to the plants in previous images).
There was just the one clump of sprawling flower stems, all in fresh condition. Most still bore some tight magenta pink buds, one of which can be seen in this image. Viewed large you can notice how the flowers turn a lighter, brighter pink as they mature.
BEST VIEWED LARGE.
there were easily a dozen pair of cardinals at the feeders at the Peace Valley Nature Center yesterday.
This male had particularly brilliant feathers.
The center looks like corn kernels. I'm waiting for them to pop! Loved the vibrant colors.
