Berlin, Glienicke Palace Garden: Right Faun-and-Panther Group on the pedestal of the Ildefonso Group in the garden courtyard of Glienicke Palace

In March 2024, the group returned to its place after a lengthy restoration. The Ildefonso group is a bronze cast based on antiquity by Christoph Heinrich Fischer (1800-1868) from 1828. The bronze recasts of two faun and panther groups, created in 2022, are new additions. The Berlin sculptor Bernhard Afinger (1813-1882) modelled these figures after antique motifs. For Glienicke, they were cast in zinc around 1850 by Simeon Pierre Devaranne (1789-1859), painted in sandstone colour and placed on the side pedestals of the Ildefonso plinth. Most of the originals had been preserved in the depot of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG), but the heads had disappeared. The reconstruction of the faun and panther groups for the Branitz Pückler Park in Cottbus, where they also existed before 1945 but were then completely lost, was the reason to recreate the groups for the Glienicke garden courtyard and to complete the ensemble again. The entire ensemble was therefore considered, and the plinth, Ildefonso group, tub and gargoyle mask were assessed and restored.

The Falkirk Wheel, Falkirk, Scotland, UK.

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift located in Scotland, UK, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. Opened in 2002, it is named after the nearby town of Falkirk, which is in central Scotland. The two canals were previously connected by a series of 11 locks, but by the 1930s these had fallen into disrepair, were filled in and the land built upon.

The plan to regenerate the canals of central Scotland to reconnect Glasgow with Edinburgh was led by British Waterways with support and funding from seven local authorities, the Scottish Enterprise Network, the European Regional Development Fund and the Millennium Commission. It was decided to create a dramatic 21st century landmark structure to reconnect the canals, instead of simply recreating the historic lock flight. Designs were submitted for a boat lift to link the canals, with the Falkirk Wheel design winning. As with many Millennium Commission projects, the site includes a visitors' centre containing a shop, café and exhibition centre.

The difference in the levels of the two canals at the wheel is 24 metres (79 ft), roughly equivalent to the height of an eight-storey building. The Union Canal, however, is 11m higher than the aqueduct which meets the wheel, and boats must pass through a pair of locks to descend from this canal onto the aqueduct at the top of the wheel. The aqueduct could not have been positioned higher due to conflicts with the nearby, historically important, Antonine Wall.

The structure is located near the Rough Castle Fort and the closest village is Tamfourhill. On 24 May 2002, Queen Elizabeth II opened the Falkirk Wheel as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations. The opening was delayed by a month due to flooding caused by vandals, who forced open the Wheel's gates.

I wanted to recreate my Day 1 photo to show the difference of having 365 days in between.

What a year.

I've been inspired by tons of artists, awed by many and attempted a few of my own on my 365.

In the search of finding my self, I dived into worlds that were once foreign, worlds that only exist in our imagination.

I learned to not worry so much about the outcome, but to concentrate on the step I was on and to try to do it with the best that I'm capable of.

What's so humbling with doing a 365 project is that you get to thoroughly evaluate your every day more. There's nothing more important than being able to live in the present and to be thankful with what ever comes your way. And to be in awareness (even for a fleeting moment) is such a beautiful thing.

Thank you for joining me in my adventures, my worlds, and my sometimes random rants/thoughts.

Thank you for inviting me into yours.

I sincerely appreciate all the warm friendships that I've encountered.

Sending lots of love your way.

See you tomorrow.

I picked the "Circe Invidiosa" by John William Waterhouse.

I'm going to be honest and let go of the raw fact that I've been avoiding to think about this theme since it has been drawn out at the beginning of this project. I am completely opposites to the kind of paintings that appeal to my heart the most, but I had inevitably to pick a painting with a human presence in it, or it would be too abstract and it would be too hard to possibly physically represent it.

I've been wanting to do a recreation of Ophelia since I started to take self-portraits. As I was almost deciding to go into a small lagoon for it, I had to adult and accept that has been way too cold lately and without assistance it was going to be almost impossible to be left happy with the result so I picked yet another option - which inevitably also included stepping into cold waters while raining a lot. It seems I never learn.

And in fact I selected two paintings and recreated both but this is the one I decided to pick for this week's theme. The other one will be shared during the next few days, possibly, or sometime soon.

I find J.W. Waterhouse a painter so modern for its age. I love the way he portrays women. They are not always fragile as most painters from the 19th century would portray them - they are portrayed importantly and godly, as if in the center of the story, the protagonists of it. They are fierce and emotional and quite magnificent by emanating those atributes instead of just the most obvious ones such a beauty or wealth.

I love it how accurately timeless the characters seem to be in his paintings. They could have been painted yesterday. They are so feminine and bold and strong. His paintings are mystical, but yet they are so current as well. And I find that to be quite refreshing for a Pre-Raphaelite painter. To be honest I do not know much about paintings, but his work always spoke to me somehow and I decided to go with his depiction of Circe. A strong, bold, powerful character.

If I could pick something to suddenly, out of the blue, be able to excel at, it would probably be painting. It's magical. 🌿

In this challenge we pay tribute to the tremendous contribution that Russian artists have made to impressionist and realist art.

For this month we choose one of the most iconic Russian landscape painters Isaac Ilyich Levitan (1860-1900) who advanced the genre of the "mood landscape".

Isaac Levitan (Исаа́к Ильи́ч Левита́н) work was a profound response to the lyrical charm of the Russian landscape, created the special variant of the "landscape of mood", in which the shape and condition of nature are spiritualized, transmuting the states of the human soul.
