I made my first prints today! I just found out HKU has a darkroom and spent quite a bit of time in it. Nobody knew how to make color prints, so I just made b/w. It's really a magical thing watching that image appear from nothing, something everyone has to try. I also just recently passed 1000 followers, exciting stuff! Thanks for liking my photos!

Is this the most boring photo I have ever posted? Perhaps yes....but there is something I don't hate about it.

Okay, now for my reason why I love flickr so much.

I'll try to make a long story short as possible. Back in mid-June before I had to leave for Oregon unexpectedly I had my annual mammogram. While in Oregon I received a call from my doctor that my mammogram showed a spot and I need to get another mammogram and an ultrasound immediately. Holy Crap! Okay, so here I am in Oregon my father is dying and now this. So I made arrangements to go to a local hospital and get my second mammogram and ultrasound done there (I would have to pay out of pocket w/no insurance coverage); however, in the meantime my father passes away and I'm dealing with that. So one week later I go to have my mammogram in Oregon only to find out my physician in Hilo did not send the proper documents even though I signed all the release papers and the womens center sent my doctor two written requests. So hell, I can't get my follow up because the office that said it should not wait - screwed up the paperwork so I could not get it done. Go figure! The Oregon hospital refused my appointment without the previous films to compare! Okay, so now I have to wait until I return to Hawaii which I knew at that time it would be weeks as I was planning my fathers funeral, dealing with all the paperwork and details, packing up his belongings, etc.

This is where flickr comes in. Although I did not have my own computer there, whenever I could get my hands on one I would go to flickr and check out my friends photos that would put a smile on my face. As soon as I landed back in Hawaii I had 4 days of waiting until my appointment - I spent as much of those days online in flickr as my computer would allow - I had so many computer problems until 7 pm this evening, it was difficult but it kept my mind off the situation facing me.

Good news to report - I am fine and do not need a biopsy (this year). I went through this last year and needed a biopsy - absolutely the scariest time of my entire life but thank goodnes it was negative. My mother had it, her mother had it - so...

Anyway, that's why I love flickr - it's therapeutic in so many ways you cannot imagine!

As in, reasons why a 3-mile-hike can take me several hours to complete: lupine, camera in hand, heavenly floral scents around, more lupine, balsamroot, a different camera for some variety, glowy spots on the trail, lupine.

Tiny coneflower just starting to appear. Only about 1 inch across. Very shallow DOF, Depth of Flower. :) This photo was to be next to closeup of the coneflower posted earlier but didn't load then for some reason so posting now. Looking forward to bees, butterflies, green bees and other insects on them later.

There has to be 3100 reasons to like this eye popping yellow 1954 Chevy 3100 Pickup appeared at the annual Agriculture Hall of Fame car show in Bonner Springs Kansas.

The first, and only, major Advanced Design styling and engineering changes occurred with the 1954 models. These models featured a pleasing one-piece windshield, and all-new grille, new parking lights and a new steering wheel and

instrument panel.

Engineering advancements included the new standard 235.5 cubic inch OHV six cylinder engine producing 112 horsepower and 200 ft-LB gross torque. The full automatic Hydra-Matic transmission became an option for light-duty trucks. These trucks continued into 1955 and remained on sale until March 25, 1955 when all-new Early V8 pickup trucks were announced by Chevrolet.

One of the reasons I wanted to visit Dublin was the old library of Trinity College. The mood in this old building with the 200.000 books and the arches is one I wanted to experience myself. We bought a ticket for the first timeslot. Arriving half an hour earlier and going straight to the Long Room I was the first to arrive there. No other visitors to ruin my images. I shot a couple when I realised there were no books on the shelves..... OMG!

One of the guards told me the place will soon be closed for the public because there's gonna be a restoration. The college has been busy for over a year removing all the books to storage fiscalities .

Trying to give it a positive twist I assured myself that now I have a "unique" image: no people and no books in the Long Room. What are the odds to see that?

Enjoy!

We are not aware of any recent accidents in the area so it will remain a pretty mystery.

Good morning folks, the reason I'm posting this image is because I've never seen this kind of fish before here, besides it's nice to see the behavioral habits of species in the wild.

I watched him for quite some time and finally he came through for me. Thamk you as always for stopping by, and have a wonderful day.

"Feelings and emotions are unstable.

And should never be the reason for your decisions and choices that you make.

They cannot be trusted,

and should never be the grounds which you base your moral integrity on.

If you allow your feelings and emotions to dictate your life,

they will always mislead and be the master of you.

Instead, trust your intuition;

that little bell we so often ignore.

Learn how to tap into it.

It's the silver lining behind the dark fog and clouds

that our feelings and emotions present."

Good morning. For some reason it felt like a fish day, which might have something to do with it being Friday and yours truly being a traditional Catholic :-) So I thought I'd share some shots of a Threadfin Butterflyfish (Chaetodon auriga).

As for these photos, lighting for the tank and water clarity wasn't the best. Plus I upped the ISO a bit. In the end the quality is less than perfect so please bear with it if you would. Thank you. And while almost all fish react negatively when someone gets too close to a tank this fish seemed quite timid in comparison to most and acted like I had BO. But in the end my charming personality won out over any body odor issues and I managed to get a few good shots.

I hope you enjoy this series on this beautiful, but shy little fish, and find the provided text in the comment section informative.

Thank you for visiting...and I hope you have a super Friday the 13th and upcoming weekend.

A beautiful double rainbow forms in the valley of the Columbia Hills on the edge of a storm front, framed by a bloom of wildflowers.

This was the reason I visited the Olympic Peninsula because I wanted to see these endemic Olympic Marmots. I had never seen them before and they did not disappoint. It was fun watching them and listening to them whistle. The hike up to see them was beautiful at 5.2Km long an elevation gain of 650Ft to the top of Hurricane Hill via Hurricane Ridge which sits at 5700Ft. At the top we had views of the Olympic Peninsula, The Strait of Juan de Fuca, Olympic Mountains and Victoria and Canada. The views of the Olympic Marmots and other wildlife and scenery was something special to see. I saw 6 Marmots on the hike and all of them were above 4000Ft. I saw adults and young and the young looked very different from the older ones as they had white faces and bellies. The one photographed here is an adult. I like their unique coat colour which has a lot of copper in it. It was fun to watch them sunning themselves on the rocks. I love his expression especially in this shot.

Olympic Marmots are endemic to the Olympic Peninsula and are not found anywhere else in the world. They are declining due to climate change and predation and have been intensely monitored since 2010. Olympic Marmots are the largest of all Marmots and show the greatest sexual dimorphism with the males being much larger than the females.

The Olympic marmot is the second-rarest North American marmot, behind the critically endangered Vancouver Island Marmot which I recently photographed.

This is the official endemic mammal of Washington State.

I am putting this photo on Flickr for a reason, the barbaric practice of trapping. Here in Alaska, I am definately in the minority when it comes to the trapping of fox.

In this photo, a Red Fox walks along the snow covered tundra with a leg hold trap attached to its front leg. The anchor chain, attached to a leather strap, broke away from the anchor point. As you can see in the photo, the trap is caked in snow, weighing down the fox's leg.

I watched this fox over a period of three months. As the photo shows, the fox is still at a healthy weight and its fur is full. I watched as it hunted and tried to jump and dive on prey under the snow. The weight of the trap pulled the fox to the left and it was obvious that the landing was very painful. As the weeks went on, the fox lost weight and its eyes were very red in color. On one occasion, I saw it eating the seeds of grasses sticking up from the snow. I do know that others working in the area were feeding the fox scraps of food. I asked the local Environmental entity to either put the fox out of its misery or capture it and remove the trap. Their reply was that in the area the fox is located, they are not allowed to interfere with the natural injuries to wildlife. I told them that a manmade trap is not natural, but they said they are not allowed, and told me that I am not allowed to as well.

While photographing this fox, I was in tears much of the time. It was very hard to watch the fox get weaker and skinnier. However, this story does have a happy ending of sorts. In late winter, (March) the fox ran by me with no trap on its leg. The fox's front leg fell off at the knee and it was finally free of the trap. The fox looked like it was gaining weight and its eyes were not red anymore. It was agile and running as if it had all four legs. I can only imagine the pain this poor fox suffered over the three months with the trap attached. No pain killers, no warm bed, no one to bring it meals, it survived on its own. This is one tough fox!

Reasons Why Your Pumpkin Isn’t Producing Fruit

There’s nothing more frustrating than watching your beautiful pumpkin plant produce gorgeous flowers but no plump orange gourds. Over and over, they flower with nothing to show for their work.

You want them to be ready in time for Halloween, or maybe for a fun dinner party where all your guests pick their own homegrown pumpkins to take home with them.

So what’s going on? How can you encourage your plants to produce fruit?

This photo was taken for a few reasons.

1: to demonstrate that yes, Fancy Decor's new 'Etienne' set (currently available at The Arcade) photos just as beautifully as the rest of the FD stuff I've encountered,

2: to demonstrate that yes, you really CAN change the text on the sign cards to whatever the heck you wanna, and

3: to hopefully make someone laugh a little.

For some reason I find this shot pleasing. Most of the wooden gates have

now been replaced with less attractive, but more durable, metal

replacements.

Perhaps it reflects myself at present - just been told missed out on a long

desired directorship to an external candidate!

"You rang!?! " This riverside bird sculpture reminded me of a character on "The Dobie Gillis Show" for some bizarre reason or other. Perhaps it's the eyes that gave me the prompt.

The real reason behind Thumbelina's abnormal growth was far more sinister than a magical seed.

"Even top-notch medical care can't compensate for the multiple effects of smoking on a developing baby. First and foremost, smoking cuts down a baby's supply of oxygen. A lack of oxygen hampers a fetus's growth and development, setting the stage for low birth weight, stillbirth, miscarriage, and many other potential complications."

BIG BAD HABIT

Research shows women who smoke while pregnant are three times as likely to have a smaller baby. They are less likely to carry the child to full term and face a 26 per cent greater risk of miscarriage or stillbirth.

Just a quick note for the series - I am not trying to glamorize any of the issues here. I hoped by providing statistics about them, people would be made aware of these terrible and yet realistic consequences. I'm not a drug addict. I've never touched a cigarette and the nearest i've been to alcohol is flavoured ice cream. I've never been physically abused, nor have I had to deal with alot of the horrible things I have been addressing in this series - so excuse me if my interpretations are a little off. But whether they are accurate or not isn't the point - the point is that these are real issues and they need to be addressed.

Ok, so I just got back from the dentist so I can finish the description! This photo was damn fun to do, but very frustrating getting all the angles to match. The cigarette box is my Dad's - he hunted through about 20 packs of new boxes until he could find me one with appropriate wording, bless his soul. Anyway, I hope you guys like it!

This was our reason for exploring this canyon. I knew it was fenced off before we started off on the hike. I'm always disappointed being denied access, but the truth of the matter is, in this case, it's probably best. People clambering all over the structure will just be detrimental to its health.

Reason for the traffic jam. An accident on the left-hand side

The reason, i like being up in the mornings, was a crazy sky this morning, the colours so vivid in the sky,, was to be a very good morning.

My sole reason for the four mile round walk (apart from the very necessary exercise of course) was to capture the pair of large logo Tractors on the tyre turning maintenance trip but thought I had bummed out when a solid blanket of cloud steamed in from the west half an hour before it was due. So it was complete astonishment that I managed to get this in full sun just a minute after the cloud had miraculously started melting away.

Reason for the title is to make the viewer associate the key colours and to show that the eyes in the background have linking colours to the standing girl .....now if only there was something glittery and purple in that graffiti..!!

It's raining a lot in Norway. Almost every single day. No reason, to not take pictures...
