This is NGC 2217, a lenticular galaxy located in the constellation of Canis Major, The Great Dog. It has a set of spiral arms tightly wound with a bluish colour. They form an almost circular ring around the galaxy. This blueish colour indicates the presence of hot, luminous young stars born out of interstellar gas clouds.

Contrasting this is the central bulge and bar region. This area is golden/yellower in appearance as it contains older stars. I especially love the two thin tight arms around the central bar. It looks like an eye looking back.

No. 14 Ordnance Depot, R.C.O.C. / Petawawa Military Camp - Date of Mobilization was - December 1943.

In World War Two, the RCOC was responsible for supplying the field Army with all manner of stores, with some exceptions. Ammunition, artillery pieces, and vehicles were RCOC responsibilities; food, medical supplies, some engineering equipment, petrol, oil and lubricants remained outside the control of the RCOC.

The RCOC was responsible for the storage and distribution of various stores such as clothing, equipment, beds, blankets, signal equipment, tents, mess equipment, cleaning supplies, engines and spare parts for vehicles, hand and machine tools, binoculars, compasses, and electric generators, to name a few.

To provide the proper amount of stores to the Army, provisioning was commenced months in advance, from scales of issue approved by the General Staff. Contracts let by DND advised manufacturers of the Army's needs. Once the manufacturers delivered the goods, they went first to Ordnance Depots who received and processed the equipment, then sent it to other, smaller, depots for distribution.

The RCOC also ran mobile bath and laundry units, and performed salvage operations. Retrieving damaged vehicles, kit from personnel casualties, and even recovery of enemy equipment, was an RCOC function as well.

The Tampa Port Agency facilitated the transportation infrastructure requirements for daily rail and vessel traffic at its Jacksonville branch. As evidenced by this typical day's entry in March 1944, railcars and vessels came from locations around the southeast and elsewhere carrying ammunition and supplies for shipment across the Atlantic.

753 721-0 & 753 717-8 (UNIDO / Unipetrol / ITL) haul a rake of Nacco, GATX, Railco RCO and VTG Zans / Zacns tanks (UN 1202) south through Usti nad Labem with 45383 (National number in Czech of 55663) Stroe (NL) - Bad Bentheim - Pirna Gbf - Kralupy nad vltavou (+202).

I'm not quite sure why this train started in Stroe (as I cannot find any oil facilities), but presumably it originated in Rotterdam or Amsterdam Westhaven and had been stabled in Stroe for some reason. The train was hauled through Germany by ITL and Unipetrol took over from Bad Schandau.

Despite the very poor weather conditions, it was still cool to get my first ever Goggles in the bag!

One of the remote hump jobs at BNSF's Argentine Yard is using an Ex-ATSF SD40-2 paired with a 700-series Dash 9 wearing red and silver and lettered for BNSF as they shove a cut over the crest.

Several SD40 types are assigned to the hump and bowl at Argentine, but the BNSF No. 723 is a recent addition, one of two Dash 9's here equpped with RCO. The other is BNSF No. 706 currently working bowl jobs. Over the last few years, several Dash 9's have been installed with RCO gear an assigned to different hump yards in the system. The majority are the 600 series, the actual original Santa Fe Dash 9's. 1/4/26.

BNSF's City job gets ready to make a switching move in the yard at EGF. There are a couple of industries along the old "Spud Row" that take covered hoppers for loose car loading.

UP RCO units are in the process of making up a outbound train at Global III in Rochelle,IL.as the setting sun gets low on the horizon. At this time Global III is pretty packed and there were no outbounds during the day at all that I saw. Two inbounds came in in the afternoon but sat on the leads for a couple hours before making it into the yard.

A pair of RCO-equipped SD40-2's shove a cut of empty spine cars from Midway Yard to Union Yard along BNSF's Midway Sub at St. Anthony. 4/17/21.

From 4/02/2008: First shift Lima yard job Y101 rolls north up #1 past the vacated O'Connor Avenue crossing (and the old 131.6 cantilever signal) and heads into North Lima's west yard. The brick building in the background is the former CH&D shops. They were torn down just a few years ago. The orange strobes on the 2661 and another unit on the engine lead, indicate that they are equipped for remote operation. The view is from the Robb Avenue overpass.

An RCO-equipped SD60M-SD40-2 pair are seen here on the South Hump Lead as they shove another cut over the hump at BNSF's Argentine Yard while BNSF train Y-KCK1161-30A can be seen in the background on the left working Turner, using Main Track 5 of the BNSF Emporia Sub for head room.

The BNSF SD60M No. 1476 was originally built as BN No. 1991 in March of 1991, painted in a patriotic red, white and blue paint scheme as a tribute to troops that served during Operation Desert Storm. It retained that paint scheme for a few a years after the merger with the Santa Fe in 1995, until it had an overhaul at the Livingston Rebuild Center at Livingston, MT in May 2000, where it received a new coat of Heritage II paint and was renumbered to 9299.

It was later renumbered again to 8199 to make room for new SD70ACe delieveries, and it was eventually repainted into Heritage IV colors and became RCO-equipped, working as a bowl trimmer here at Argentine. It was renumbered yet again as 1476 to make room for new ES44C4's, and had been moved elsewhere on the system for a few years before returing to Kansas City again to work as one of the hump engines. 4/30/22.
