We see Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s office Deputy Lance Mead talking with Eagle Lake State Park Superintendent Shelby Anderson in the rear of County Government Center ,While normal business keeps humming with activity tonight ,the County Clerk's office staff will be pulling late night ,as today is the 2024 Election primary .After weeks of early voting and with today voting around the county along with absentee ballots will all have to counted after 7PM
Beside top place on ballot for each party's primaries you have federal House Reps and Senators same for State House reps and Senators . On a more local level you have 14th Judicial District Attorney's Office District attorney Patrick Flrod who is running for his 13th term since being elected in 1980 he only has run contested races twice . and this year has been like the last few elections he is unopposed . Ask thoughts of local residents in four counties that the DA office covers you will get a really mixed bag of just job performance .
Lower on the ballot you have 3 out of 5 board of county commissioners seats District 1 Commissioner / Chair Jeb Cox and District 2 Commissioner Jake Harpe both are unopposed in June Primary ,but District 5 Commission Frank Padilla will in Fall when he faces off with Retried Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Robert Snow
Longtime county Clerk Julia Azzarllo since 2004 is not seeking re-election Current Chief Clerk Anthony Clark is running unopposed and in the general election also for Clerk . County Treasurer Emily Baca is running for another term and is unopposed in her primary ,but in fall will face Robert Tierra who has been a long time banker in the county .
It is another semi windy day on this Monday May 20th ,2024 mid morning .We see Hazzard Range County Undersheriff Ron Bayerd heading for his unit parked on Dallas Ave in Sparta, the county seat . With another court hearing ,along with two government meetings and just normal business day for government and private ,Ron knows that means he was lucky to get a spot only a block away from the County Government Center that also houses the Sheriff’s admin office .
Like anyone who has lived in the county for any time knows that local and state politicians have always talked about more parking ,but never really has happened besides a small 40 spots parking garage built in 2010 that was plagued by scandals along with a small parking 10 spot lot built in 2019 from land bought from BNSF . Maybe when Ron retires around 2030 more parking will come into reality ,by then it will be 100 years in the making !

Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Deputy Jason Hernandez enforced traffic regulations on Bass Dr in Eagle Lake .

Driver of Blue pickup was County Magistrate Judge Sally Harts ,Deputy Hernandez clocked her doing nearly 65 MPH ,but one of slower speeders in last few weeks that HRCSO have nabbed on Bass ,North and South Railroad cut Drs . All three Drs are long straightaways and people treat them like an interstate. The Sheriff's office has step up enforcement ,but local residents of Eagle Lake hope a new traffic study will bring some new solutions .
