Hojas simples; pecíolo 5-15 mm; limbo obovado-elíptico, obovado-oblongo u oblongo, 8-30 × 3,5-12 cm, membranoso o parecido al papel, hojas jóvenes en la parte inferior escasamente pubescentes o densamente pilosas, crinitas en las axilas de las nervaduras laterales, adaxialmente escasamente pubescentes, luego glabras, laterales nervaduras (10-)20-25 pares, rectas, que desembocan en los dientes, base obtusa, margen serrulado, ápice agudamente acuminado. Panícula terminal, erecta, de 15-25 cm, pubescente; ramas planas, largas y delgadas, eje 3-ángulo. Pedicelo corto. Flores ca. 3 mm de diámetro. Sépalos 4 o 5, ovados o ampliamente ovados, ca. 1 mm, ápice redondeado, ciliado. Pétalos: 3 exteriores suborbiculares, ca. 1,5 mm de diámetro; 2 internos lanceolados, ca. 1,5 mm, entero. Estambres fértiles 1-1,2 mm. Pistilo ca. 2 milímetros; ovario glabro. Drupa obovoide o globosa, de 4-5 mm de diámetro; endocarpio comprimido-globoso, nervadura central ligeramente prominente. Bosques húmedos, bosques húmedos de montaña, valles, riberas de arroyos; por debajo de 600 m. China (Henan, N Jiangsu, Shandong), Japón, Corea del Sur. En Iturraran se encuentra en la zona 1.
Trees to 20 m tall, deciduous. Bark grayish brown; young branches and petioles brownish pubescent. Leaves simple; petiole 5-15 mm; leaf blade obovate-elliptic, obovate-oblong, or oblong, 8-30 × 3.5-12 cm, membranous or papery, young leaves abaxially sparsely pubescent or densely pilose, crinite in axils of lateral veins, adaxially sparsely pubescent, then glabrous, lateral veins (10-)20-25 pairs, straight, running into teeth, base obtuse, margin serrulate, apex sharply acuminate. Panicle terminal, erect, 15-25 cm, pubescent; branches flat, long and slender, axis 3-angulate. Pedicel short. Flowers ca. 3 mm in diam. Sepals 4 or 5, ovate or broadly ovate, ca. 1 mm, apex rounded, ciliate. Petals: 3 outer ones suborbicular, ca. 1.5 mm in diam.; 2 inner ones lanceolate, ca. 1.5 mm, entire. Fertile stamens 1-1.2 mm. Pistil ca. 2 mm; ovary glabrous. Drupe obovoid or globose, 4-5 mm in diam.; endocarp compressed-globose, midrib slightly prominent. Humid forests, moist mountain forests, valleys, streamsides; below 600 m. China (Henan, N Jiangsu, Shandong), Japan, S Korea. In Iturraran is located in area 1.
