Blue Zephyr Daisies soaking up the warm evening sun.

The tholtan ruins of Killabregga at Tholt-Y-Will looking magnificent as usual with the backdrop hills catching a lovely burst of late afternoon light. I really adore this location and have photographed it probably hundreds of times over the years. I’ve no idea what the row of jagged tooth like stones are at this spot but they do always make for an interesting foreground with a nice contrast to the rounded hills beyond. Killabregga is a wonderful spot which really does bring together all the best elements of the Isle of Man upland landscapes.

It was a beautiful morning in South Africa's Cape Point Nature Reserve, a land of towering coastal mountains and vast inland planes, as the sun broke through clouds and painted it all in spectacular light!

Found at the local botanical gardens ...at quick glance just another flower... but a closer look will reveal its reality.

As the sun was rising just out of view to the right of this scene, it spread a beautiful morning glow. Photographed from a mountain vantage point at 10,600' overlooking the Denver metro area. (two frame pano)

The time of the falling leaves has come again. Once more in our morning walk we tread upon carpets of gold and crimson, of brown and bronze, woven by the winds or the rains out of these delicate textures while we slept....How beautifully the leaves grow old! How full of light and color are their last days!...But in October what a feast to the eye our woods and groves present! The whole body of the air seems enriched by their calm, slow radiance. They are giving back the light they have been absorbing from the sun all summer.

This beautiful dress by [SHIFUKU], called Boho Fleur, is just a delight for the eyes. So soft and simple, yet very elegant, it truly captures the boho theme. There is a matching long cardigan available at Velvet Bohème, not shown in this picture.

I am also wearing MINA's Esmeralda hairstyle, a favorite of mine, textures so lovely and realistic you can almost feel the delicate softness of the hair in your fingertips.

May your Sunday be blissful.

One of the rare mornings that the sun was up. Love the long shadows cast by the low winter light.

Guess it’s about time to start posting new images from this summer. First up is an image from Mount Rainier taken last month. Before heading out on any trip the one thing which gets me excited is a forecast containing a full range of weather conditions: rain, fog, sun, clouds, etc. Forecasts like this make it much more likely to encounter dynamic weather. Such was the case on the Rainier trip. Even though views of the mountain were shut down by the “bad” weather the fog filtering through this subalpine forest still held plenty of promise. About an hour or so after sunrise the strong summer sun finally burned through the fog layer producing a few moments of absolute magic. Moments like this are what I live for as a photographer. You never know where the morning will take you.

I do the odd private workshop from time to time. It’s not something I advertise or promote all that often, but it is something I really enjoy doing. I’m an educator by profession so it’s natural for me to enjoy teaching and sharing knowledge with others. One common question I am asked during a workshop is how I go about knowing what I want to photograph. It’s an interesting question. I usually start by saying I’m not one to put too much weight on pre-visualization. For instance I never pre-conceived this image in my mind's eye before actually capturing it. I never expressly went out to try to create this image, or one very similar to it. Instead I like to rely on the little bits of visual inputs I’ve collected over the years while out photographing: the subtle way light strikes a feature, recurring patterns in nature, how a scene is changed by subtle shifts in weather conditions, interesting arrangements of elements, interesting color contrasts, how the quality of light, etc. These inputs are collected whenever I’m out hiking, driving through nature, or just hanging out waiting for better light. Even if the camera is in the bag the mind doesn’t stop. These collective inputs then form a reservoir of ideas and concepts I can then draw upon while reacting to given conditions. Instead of visualizing an image I want to make in my brain and hoping conditions line up with that expectation, I prefer to explore a natural area and wait for one of these little ideas or concepts to present themselves. Then I photograph the idea. I find this form of reactive photography incredibly rewarding because it fully immerses me in the nature around me while also bringing me deeper into the creative process. Coming home with a proud image is definitely a worthy goal, but for me it is just as important to use photography as a vehicle for experiencing life more fully.

That radiance

you have always

carried with you

as you walk

both alone

and completely

accompanied

in friendship

by every corner
