Retrieving proteins from the Fluids Integrated Rack in @NASA's Destiny lab. Protein crystals grow better in microgravity, making it easier for researchers to understand how other molecules interact with them and improve pharmaceutical drugs.

The drying racks at the bottom of the picture are used to dry fish after they have been caught in the Norwegian Sea.

The 1st Marine Division hosted their annual Infantry Squad or “Super Squad” competition which pits the 1st, 5th, and 7th Marine Regiments and a Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion against each other in tests designed to evaluate their leadership and small unit, infantry skills.

I'm not convinced the rack system has been engaged by the locomotive here as 0-10-0T E1067 (built Nippon Sharyo/1967) climbs the grade above Batutabal, West Sumatra, pushing two hoppers of coal and some decrepit passenger accommodation en route to Padang Panjang - September 1978.

The evening local works the AWC FCA autorack facility. At this yard they load/offload FCA products including Caravans and Pacificas built in Windsor and Rams built in Warren, Michigan. The other racks on the right are in CP's Walkerville Yard which parallels Little Yard.

Westbound Q299 highballs up the former C&O behind a matching pair of YN2 GE's. Risingsun has always been one of my favorite spots on this line, and I lucked out with all the elements coming together here.

On March 18 to took a photo of an elk with a giant set of antlers. Several days later, on the 21st, I saw the elk again and one side of the rack was missing. On the 22nd I noticed that he had his full spring "haircut". Then I saw the second half of the rack stuck in the ground.

Someone mentioned the other day about the difficulties of recording the action on the West Sumatran rack railway centered on Padang Panjang.
Lack of trains, failures, high light, no light, rain and lineside access to the better locations were all issues to contend with. But it was fun.
In September 1978, one of seven 0-10-0T rack tanks that were serviceable slogs uphill between Kayutanam and Padang Panjang with empty coal hoppers.
