It is quite amazing how much fish a great blue heron can consume during its morning feed, and how much it can swallow at once. In this image the blue heron I had been photographing just caught a large catfish which was about to be swallowed whole.

Spectacle e'e Waterfall , Sandford , Lanarkshire , Scotland .

Spectacle E’e (eye) falls – the unusual name is the result of an incident involving a local lad who fell in love with the miller’s beautiful daughter. The miller disapproved and put an end to the romance. As revenge the lad placed an eye glass in the mill’s thatch. The thatch soon caught fire and the mill was burned to the ground.

On the way to take this I had my own spectacular "FALL" backwards whilst carrying a tripod and baggage. Tripod is now TRASHED .

Quite a rarity this far north in West Texas, this bird visited hummingbird feeders on private property in Nolan County, TX.

Apologies. My powers of control don't quite extend to getting all fifteen ponies around me to look in the same direction, but I'm working on it and I know that no matter what the weather is like this weekend I shall pay them another visit. This is a living landscape and I'm besotted!

I quite liked the lines of clouds leading your eye out to sea.

Iguazu Falls span across both Argentina and Brazil. We visited Argentina side followed next day the Brazilian side. The water spray was quite intense requiring the cameras to be cleaned after every shot

The quite breathtaking view from the Pinnacle summit, certainly worth the walk. I had to wait though to get an image without the daredevil "insta crowd" posing on that closest ledge. Shudder ... the cries of "I'm soooo freaking scared" were ringing out loud and clear for all to hear. My internal dialogue was something like "And so you "freaking" should be" Some word/s might have been changed :)

I had to overcome my fear of being in a very dark wooded area to capture this shot, I was quite spooked but had to get a shot of this tree that I was happy with.

The shot was taken after midnight and this was probably the fifth picture on my stream from that night.

Quite amazing to watch him (male sparrowhawk) clean his feathers and pick bits of his kill from between his talons. A great experience (for me)! PS, it is just a larger crop of my previous post.

Thanks to all who have visited, commented or faved my photos. It is very much appreciated.

Quite smokey up there today but always so many pictures to take its a great spot , the shot below was 7 years earlier about the same time of year

One of my attempts at the "Crazy Tuesday" theme "Looking up".

Happy Macro Monday, theme on measurement.

I may quite possibly be the proudest of this particular photograph out of nearly all of them. This guy was taken the very last day of a Yellowstone workshop. We were all on our way back to the hotel, and I happened to glance off to my right, right next to a road, and there were two brown lumps in the snow. I got my dad to drive down the road, and.. lo and behold... moose! Two moose, in fact! One male and one female. They were so close to the car, i'm amazed that us being there didn't bother them. However, it was so very, very worth it in this awesome photograph.

This picture took me quite some time , redoing the shoot more then once and I was never truly satisfied because I so badly want to show this centipede in detail how well it's been made.

The centipede is sold to be worn like an earring , I myself played and toyed with some of the critters to have them dangle and crawl over the caged mask ( gacha) from Contraption.

I'm not feeling 100% well with the shot yet the little beast shows well and that's what it should be about!

quite a bit of rain around here lately, but the light was nice for this one I think...

I quite often see this mother and daughter along Cadnam Lane. We could just about make them out on Sunday with all the fog

When I noticed this beauty sat on the rocks, I set up the camera for an inflight shot.

Strangely against all the normal rules he didn't fly off. The best he managed was a couple of hops between rocks.

In the end after a lengthy photo shoot I left him/her sunbathing on the rocks. The flight shot will have to wait for another day.

I was amazed to get this close as normally such opportunities are only gained from a bird reserve.

Quite recently, I posted 2 pics of the flower bract of one of my pineapple plants. This week, the fruit was harvested - small but very sweet and fragrant!

Generally quite common and conspicuous in wetland habitats from marshes and tidal flats to small ponds, ditches, and wet fields; nests colonially in tall trees. Mainly seen as singles or in small groups, standing quietly in or at the edge of water, less often hunting in fields. Plumage mostly gray overall, with paler neck; adult has white crown, black eyebrows, and black shoulder patch. Like other herons and egrets, flies with neck pulled in to form a bulge. (eBird)

--------------

What's a wetland without a heron? This adult heron was wading through the shallows, competing with the shorebirds, other herons and even flamingos for a tasty snack.

Quite dark and cloudy winter afternoon on the river..

Quite a tricky shot this - was almost shooting into the Sun just after sunrise hence on the left side the highlights only just avoided being blown away. Wind was very very weak so had to use big stopper & little stopper together (never done that before) - thought I'd grown out of big stopper style shots but I haven't I'm afraid. If you use a dslr don't you have to be a bit creative??? I took a handheld shot of this the day before but without the long exposure just looks like a shot that a friend of mine calls "a snappy snap" :))

Thanks to Everyone who took the trouble to view, comment or fave.

I'm off to see if there'll be a sunrise this morning in the Brecon Beacons. I guess Pen y Fan will be too busy so I'll go elsewhere. During a snow shower on my last visit I noticed these beautiful receding ridges beyond Cribyn. It's quite understated and calming , a nice change for me. Velvet snow is by Kings of Leon, and that was the first title i saw this morning when I opened my playlist.

Quite a rare car parked beside me in a supermarket parking lot. The Morgan Plus 4 is an automobile produced by the Morgan Motor Company. Plus 4 production ran from 1950 to 1969. Only about 4500 were produced in 19 years.

Quite cool,,,looks so brave and proud on the branch.

Quite unusual in Denmark at that time of year !

Quite a rare find as these are usually found at the coast, probably just passing through.

I was quite surprised to find that Sundays and Bank Holidays that the service was run by a large minibus. Even so - seen here in Loughton - it seems to be moving fresh air about. If services aren't used, they generally don't last.

Converted to monochrome. Taken through shelter glass.

Death Valley National Park

Quite the drama in the sky near sunset over the Painted Desert / Petrified Forest.

The smallest poppy I have ever seen. Less than 1cm (0.40in) across .

Found and trampled on by Honey. Picked to photograph and press.

Quite cold again today ! We started at -10°C in the morning but it got a few degrees "warmer" during the day. Fynn doesn't mind wearing his sweater and enjoys going out whenever he likes and as long as he wants to. I add another capture in the comments just to show a bit more of the winter design of Fynn's sweater which isn't really visible in this first photo.

This is the first time I have seen a seagull stalking and chasing down dragonflies. It caught several small ones and a couple of large ones. It was quite a distance and quite a severe crop

Melitaea athalia (Wachtelweizen-Scheckenfalter) Zölzalm, Eisenerzer Alpen Natura2000, Steiermark, Austria.

Quite a bit of water runoff near this house.

The forest department had set up small water troughs (20 cms diameter) in the forest for small birds - while they set up large water troughs (15 - 20 feet diameter) on the ground for animals. As summer comes, these become quite busy and are a great place for sightings.

The White Bellied Blue flycatcher is another endemic of the Malabar forest in India and a pretty serious looking detective type of bird that stares suspiciously for a long time. This was a lifer and on the first day, I was amazed by the birds ability to sit and stare for minutes together without moving.

And in the background was a Brown Cheeked Fulvetta - a small super active bird found much of the subcontinent. They are social birds that are seen in flocks and known for their loud calls.

As soon as the Fulvetta came to the water trough - it was like a kid - lets have fun - dived straight into the water and was making merry. The flycatcher though landed on the edge and stared at the photographers like a minute before slowly taking a dip. I used the opportunity to take a long exposure shot 1/10 sec and am quite happy with the outcome!

Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

We all butt heads throughout our lives in the ring of competition with others but mostly with ourselves. Without trials and testing, we would not progress or reach our potential.

Bighorn Sheep quite literally butting heads.

Quite a modern bridge over the River Aulne in the picturesque town of Châteaulin in Brittany, France HFF! When the church bells tolled the sound echoed off the rocks behind these buildings and it was as though 2 sets of bells were being rung a couple of seconds apart. iPhone photo taken as we were watching 2 large Perch (fish) feeding in the river below.

Quite a nice little teddy-bear of a hoverfly. They love umbellifers and at this time of the year are very common

Quite breezy today, so the Bearded Tits were not showing very well, making it difficult to get a clear shot of one, until I got lucky when this male came down for a drink.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.

Quite good numbers of Chaffinch in the garden at the weekend, I will have to keep my eye out and see if I get any Brambling's in amongst them :-)
