“At a north-west Police Court on Monday, […] (19), of […], and […] (18), of […], admitted trespassing on a USA Army Camp, and were each fined £2... The police superintendent said girls generally were a perfect nuisance in and around the camps. It necessitated detailing men to keep them out and on the move. The Chairman said if any more cases came before the court they would be more seriously dealt with.”
Despite the Chairman's warning, the problem of “camp followers” -as they were known in more polite circles- persisted to the extent that Ashton UDC resolved at its meeting in July 1944 to “take up with the Ministry of Fuel and Power the question of the use of petrol [by local taxis conveying women from and to other districts] late at night. The Council have also decided to express to the Superintendent of the Police their concern regarding the conduct of girls and women in the streets of Ashton, especially after 10pm”.
Of course, the American troops were not wholly innocent in these respects. On 10 June 1944, the Wigan Observer reported the conviction of a mother and daughter in Wigan for “keeping a disorderly house”. 43 American soldiers had been observed entering the premises over a 12-day period commencing 6 May, some of them having to strike matches in order to verify the house number when arriving late at night. In a police raid on 21 May, 5 Americans were encountered with the occupiers and several other women, all in various stages of undress. The mother was sentenced to 3 months' imprisonment, the daughter to 1 month and their co-accused women were placed on probation. A claim that one of the soldiers had “removed his trousers to prevent creasing them” cut little ice with the appeal judge, who upheld the convictions albeit with a reduction in sentence for the daughter.
In his autobiography “Battered Cherub” (Hamish Hamilton, 1982), the late NUM President and Ashtonian Joe Gormley notes, simply, that “the girls had a wonderful time”.
This series of Photos I hope will help out a follow doll and action figure collector who is trying to put together a custom Chris Reeve action figure!
I ordered this Custom Chris Reeve head a few years ago because I like the updated hair.
Matching a head to a body can be tricky! I try to stick with Hot Toys products for the most part and I try to as questions about the item I'm purchasing if I have a specific purpose in mind! The General Zod body is bigger/taller than most Hot Toys figures but there are a lot of head sculpts on ebay that are made for the bigger bodies! You just have to ask! The marginal ones may require some adjustments! I'll try to post a tutorial on removing the neck insert soon because that can make the difference needed for a perfect fit!
ok, i don't really remember if her name is mary, but i can't find where i wrote it down, and that pisses me off. but mary, we'll call her mary, worked at the alameda county fair this summer, out in pleasanton. she was generous enough to let me take her picture, and answer some question. she does not travel with the people at the fair- a friend of her relative's owns some of the concessions and got her a summer job. she acknowledged that it was a little strange to be one of the few people who did not travel with the fair, but it was a job. she was at the super duper every vegetable fried. you gotta do what you gotta do when you're a vegetarian at the fair.

Either a Comma or Question mark butterfly seen this past Saturday 18 Feb at Broughtons Wildlife Education Center outside Marietta Ohio.
It has been a very warm Winter and this past week had daytime highs in the 60's. The warmer temps have awakened hibernating butterflies like this fellow, (I'm going with Comma).
I cant deny enjoying the warmer temps and having the opportunity to see butterflies like the Mourning Cloak and Comma one to two months early, But I still would feel a little less concerned if Winter would act like Winter is supposed to, LOL.

Bad Apples is a new rock musical that follows three characters inspired by the three National Guard soldiers behind the atrocities at Abu Ghraib prison in 2003/2004. Jim Leonard has created a compelling, jarring, beautiful and heartbreaking story that asks how this tragedy came to be. Who were the victims? Who were the villains? Is sadism part of being human? Was Abu really an aberration brought on by a few "bad apples?"

600 persons visited the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Sunday, 29 September 2013, when it opened its doors for The Hague International Day. Visitors engaged with speakers representing the Judges, the Prosecution, the Defence, the Legal Representatives of Victims, and the Registry during an interactive session held in the ICC Courtroom in The Hague (Netherlands). They had the opportunity to participate in a one-hour presentation in the ICC public gallery. Questions from visitors focused on the various aspects of the Court’s work, including its mandate, structure and ongoing cases.
