The Jovian Fleet is a criminal syndicate organized under the leadership of former Space Police Officer Nigel MacGruder, who escaped custody and went into hiding after his smuggling activities were discovered. MacGruder has since assembled a sizable fleet of vessels and has been making a growing nuisance of himself, preying on commercial traffic between Earth and the asteroid belts and using his extensive knowledge of Space Police procedures and tactics to rebuild his smuggling empire.
The word "Jovian" doesn't mean the fleet is friendly, it's a reference to their chosen territory in the area of Sol 5 and 6, the planets Jupiter and Saturn. The massive size of these worlds combined with their turbulent atmospheres offers the Jovian Fleet an effectively unlimited number of hiding places, as their ships have been retrofitted with reinforced hulls and integrity fields that allow them to dive deep enough into the atmospheres of the Jovian worlds to escape detection.
Despite an obsession with ornate accommodations and ostentatious trappings, MacGruder is a hard man and a dangerous enemy. We have been attempting to infiltrate his organiztion for some time, and while we've succeeded in inserting a few personnel, they have all met brutal ends at the hands of MacGruder's elite personal strike force, a group of hand-picked operatives he calls the Blood Wardens. This surveillance still from MacGruder's flagship became infamous after he leaked it to the public networks, intended as an object lesson to any would-be informants or traitors. The two men lying dead on the floor were our best source of inside information at the time, and the message sent by their executions was heard loud and clear throughout the criminal underground.
The trigger man was MacGruder's second in command Nathan Wulf, seen standing to the right with the flechette pistol. We don't have names for the two Wardens behind him, but the woman standing by the window with the scoped energy weapon we know only as Aegis, a former freelance sniper who joined MacGruder's fleet several years ago.
Also shown are several of MacGruder's line troops, armed with Jovian Fleet Service Rifles and wearing the distinctive transparent shield visors seen on so many boarding actions. We don't know what MacGruder calls the two men in the back corners of the room, but from their ceremonial garb and unique weapons we suspect they're some sort of personal guard. The woman kneeling at his right is likely a mistress of some kind; MacGruder is not known to keep or deal in slaves.
Exercise extreme caution when patrolling within the Jovian orbits. MacGruder's fleet is not above attacking lone Space Police vessels if he thinks he has the advantage.

I am guessing this dress came from the early '80s--I bought it at a resale store 25 years ago. It has well-padded shoulders and a peplum--definitely not in tune with today's styles.
This pic, taken in 2013, may well show me wearing it most recently. It is still in my closet, and I think it still fits.
The question is: How would this retro look go over in 2019?

La comparaison des sculptures met en évidence l'évolution du style de Bourdelle par rapport à celui de Rodin. Bourdelle devient progressivement plus radical, proche de l'archaïsme grec des origines et géométrique que Rodin resté expressionniste jusqu'à la fin de sa vie. En ce sens, il ouvre la voie à Brancusi et à Giacometti.

This flamboyant little show-off is commonly called "red ribbons". I went looking for it last night in Gates Canyon and found it in two places. Endemic to California.

My Naturalist Friend took all of Zero Seconds to reply to my query: "this is a Tellima; which one you'll have to decide for yourself!" Curiously I found it in our garden in the shade of a large Rhododendron which I was tending. I certainly never planted it so how it came to grow here, I haven't a clue. I'll have to read up on its seeding habits...
The name 'Tellima' is the way botanists at the beginning of the nineteenth century had some fun. It's an anagram of 'Mitella', a very similar plant in the same Saxifrage family. 'Grandiflora' hails from northwestern North America. According to the fine The Botanical Register of 1828 it was found first by Archibald Menzies (1754-1842), naturalist of the famous Vancouver Expedition with HMS Discovery. A few years later intrepid David Douglas (1799-1834) - he of the Douglas Fir and the first mountaineer of North America -, like Menzies also a Scotsman, (re)found it and he promptly sent it to The Horticulture Society in 1826. In the course of the nineteeenth century it became naturalised in Great Britain. I suppose it thus also came to Continental Europe. The wee flowers measure 5-8 mm across.
It's the kind of weed I gladly tolerate in my garden!

This is, quite literally, a variation on a theme. You can see an earlier version in the comments section below, which was produced for Martin Vonk and based on one of his original images. Stagecoach is well-known for non-standard applications of its corporate colours on its service fleet. This variation is quite common on training vehicles and seems appropriate for a recovery vehicle (20-May-14).

Família: Galbulidae Espécie: Galbula ruficauda
Comprimento: 22 cm; peso: 23 g. Presente da Amazônia até o Paraná. Encontrado também do México à Bolívia e Argentina. Comum em bordas de florestas úmidas (e no interior, próximo a clareiras, capoeiras, margens de rios e brejos) e em matas ralas e secas. Vive normalmente aos pares, pousado em arbustos, de onde voa para apanhar insetos, como borboletas e abelhas.
Faz ninho em buracos escavados em barrancos ou em cupinzeiros nas árvores. Põe de 2 a 4 ovos pontilhados de marrom. Conhecido também como beija-flor-grande, ariramba-da-mata-virgem, beija-flor-d´água, jacamarici, bico-de-sovela, sovelão (Minas Gerais), ariramba-de-rabo-vermelho e ariramba-de-cauda-ruiva.

A novice may be forgiven for thinking, on first sight, that this bird was a Hummingbird. The shape, the needle-like bill and the iridescence cannot help but give that impression. But this a far larger species than any hummingbird. In overcast conditions it has a somewhat dull greenish colour on the upper parts, but in bright low-angle sunlight the bird seems to catch fire and all the colours of the rainbow, except blue, appear in a burst of splendour reminiscent of the queen of a Trinidad Carnival band. Go to Tobago and stop at the 23 1/2 mile post on the Windward Road and you are certain to see some of these birds flying in and out of their nest holes in the mudbank on the side of the road.

The Rufous-tailed Jacamar (Galbula ruficauda) is a near-passerine bird which breeds in the tropical New World in southern Mexico, Central America and South America as far as southern Brazil and Ecuador.
The jacamars are elegant brightly coloured birds with long bills and tails, which feed on insects caught in the air, like bee-eaters. They distinguish between edible and unpalatable butterflies mainly according to body shape (Chai 1996). This species is a resident breeder in a range of dry or moist woodlands and scrub. The two to four rufous-spotted white eggs are laid in a burrow in a bank or termite mound.
The Rufous-tailed Jacamar is typically 25 cm long with a 5 cm long black bill. The subspecies G. r. brevirostris has, as its name implies, a shorter bill. This bird is metallic green above, and the underparts are mainly orange, including the undertail, but there is a green breast band. Sexes differ in that the male has a white throat, and the female a buff throat; she also tends to be have paler underparts. The race G. r. pallens has a copper-coloured back in both sexes.
This insectivore hunts from a perch, sitting with its bill tilted up, then flying out to catch flying insects.
The Rufous-tailed Jacamar's call is a sharp pee-op, and the song a high thin peeo-pee-peeo-pee-pe-pe, ending in a trill.

The Stinson Aircraft Company of Wayne, Michigan built the Model O to serve as a training and utility aircraft. Based on the company’s popular Reliant series, the Model O was first developed in response to a query from the Honduran government, who needed aircraft to develop their own air force. Robert L. Hall, known for his work on Gee Bee designs, was hired by Stinson in 1933 and served as project engineer. Although intended as a trainer, the Model O could be fitted with light armament.
Just nine Model Os were ever built. Stinson eventually delivered five to Honduras, where the military used them for training and anti-insurgency operations. Another three aircraft later went to China and one to Brazil. The prototype remained in the United States and served as a civil trainer in California. The Model O is the only open cockpit monoplane built by Stinson.
Jeff Paulson of Overall Aircraft Services & Restoration of Scappoose, Oregon built the Museum’s Model O reproduction in the early 2000s after learning that no aircraft of the type remained in existence. Without any remaining original drawings, he used 20 photographs as the basis for the 28-month project. Paulson assigned Manufacturer’s Serial Number 10 to the finished airplane—the last Model O of the original production run of nine. First taking to the air in March 2010, it logged 200 flight hours before its retirement. It was donated to the Museum in 2012 by Brad Poling and Jim Teel of Sacramento, California.
The Museum’s Model O has appeared at many regional air shows. In 2010, Jeff Paulson flew the plane cross-country to the annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) show at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. There, it won a coveted Lindy award for Replica Aircraft Champion.

Locomotive Horn Signals
Ever wondered why the UP locomotives running on the track just down the block always sound their horns four times when approaching your street? Or heard a whole series of short whistle blasts and wondered what they meant? Horns are sounded for safety reasons – to warn of approaching trains. The following list "translates" some of those horn signals. The "o" indicates short sounds and "=" is for longer sounds. The General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) contains information on horn use. These rules are frequently updated, and for the most up to date information, the sources of record are the GCOR, General Orders, Subdivision General Orders and Superintendent Bulletins.

After this initial warning, "o o" sounds intermittently until the head end of train has passed the men or equipment.
Horn Signals: A Proven Safety Precaution
On April 27, 2005, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), which enforces rail safety regulations, published the Final Rule on the Use of Locomotive Horns at Highway-Rail Grade Crossings. Effective June 24, 2005, the Final Rule requires that locomotive horns be sounded at all public grade crossings 15-20 seconds before entering a crossing, but not more than one-quarter mile in advance.
The pattern for blowing the horn remains two long, one short, and one long sounding to be repeated as necessary until the locomotive clears the crossing. Locomotive engineers will retain the authority to vary this pattern as necessary for crossings in close proximity. Locomotive engineers will be allowed to sound the horn in emergency situations consistent with the Final Rule.
A ban on locomotive horns in Florida was ordered removed by the FRA after it was shown that the accident rate doubled during the ban. The Final Rule preempts any state or local laws regarding the use of the train horn at public crossings. The Final Rule also provides public authorities the option to maintain and/or establish quiet zones provided certain supplemental or alternative safety measures are in place and the crossing accident rate meets FRA standards. Afin de détourner son fils de l'alcool et de canaliser ses accès de violence et de démence, Valadon initie Utrillo à la peinture. Ce qui n'était qu'un divertissement devient alors une vocation. Dans ce portrait, Valadon opte pour un cadrage extrêmement resserré, presque étouffant, et se focalise sur le visage d'Utrillo. L'air abattu et le regard vide sur lequel passe une ombre, il se trouve dans une sorte d'impasse symbolique. coincé entre son chevalet et le cadre derrière lui. L'atmosphère lugubre est renforcée par une palette chromatique aux tonalités assourdies. En 1919, Utrillo a 36 ans et effectue un quatrième séjour prolongé dans une institution psychiatrique.
