Dropping of some mounted photos at the shop@theword I saw that the Cunard cruiser Queen Victoria was in dock on a round Britain cruise. Good job I was carrying my little Olympus. Here is a focus stacked image which I decided to give it the mono sepia treatment.

It is a sunrise theme and I liked the silhouette of Queen Victoria this morning in Birmingham. Parts of the German Market are surrounding her as she faces the sunrise.

The Frankfurt Christmas Market in the city centre of Birmingham, West Midlands.

The market started in 2001 with 24 stalls and has expanded every year. It opens in mid-November and continues until late December, closing just before Christmas.

It stretches across Centenary Square, Chamberlain Square, New Street, and Victoria Square, and is the largest Frankfurt styled market outside Germany and Austria. German food and drink such as Bratwurst and Glühwein are available.

The market is affiliated with the Frankfurt Christmas Market in the city of Frankfurt, one of the oldest such markets in Germany (dating from 1393), hence the name. Birmingham is twinned with Frankfurt.

A short drive from Pitlochry, along a winding tree-lined road, hugging the River Tummel, lies the Queen' s View. This famous vantage point looks out over one of the most iconic panoramas in Scotland, directly to the west along Loch Tummel from where, on a clear day, you can sometimes see the mountains surrounding Glencoe by the West Coast.

A popular destination since Victorian times, it is often thought that the location was named after Queen Victoria who did, in fact, visit in 1866 . However, it is more widely believed to have been named after Queen Isabella the 14th century wife of Robert the Bruce who used the spot as a resting place on her travels

The Herend Porcelain Manufactory (Hungarian: Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt.) is a Hungarian manufacturing company, specializing in luxury hand painted and gilded porcelain. Founded in 1826, it is based in the town of Herend near the city of Veszprém. We used to live in Veszprem for my first 6 years, before we moved to Budapest. In the mid-19th century it was purveyor to the Habsburg Dynasty and aristocratic customers throughout Europe. Many of its classic patterns are still in production. After the fall of Communism in Hungary the factory was privatised and is now 75% owned by its management and workers. As of 2006, the factory is profitable and exports to over 60 countries of the world. Its main markets are Italy, Japan, Russia and the US. Some well-known patterns were named for the first customers: (Queen Victoria, Esterházy, Batthyány, Rothschild, Apponyi). In 1865 Francis Joseph I gave a noble title to Fischer, in appreciation of his work in porcelain art. From 1872 Mór Fischer Farkasházy, Purveyor to the Royal Court, was entitled to use the shapes and patterns of the Manufactory of Vienna, which had closed down.

I just wanted to build a clinker brick wall.

In my opinion the outcome of the wall looks quite good and so I decided to build a little vignette to present the finished wall.

It was with Victoria's accession that Buckingham House became the home of the monarch.

The Queen Victoria Memorial

This dramatic looking character is taken in detail from a group of statues, sculpted by Sir Thomas Brock and is placed at the centre of Queens' Gardens on front of Buckingham Palace and is dedicated to Queen Victoria. It was finally installed in 1924 but originally dedicated in 1911. The group is topped by the "Peace" statue in gold. It's a wonderful group of figures.

The Queen’s View in Highland Perthshire overlooks Loch Tummel and is said to have been named after Queen Victoria, following her visit to the area in 1866. The Queen’s View lies at the eastern edge of Loch Tummel and is surrounded by part of the Tay Forest Park. As well as a stunning viewpoint overlooking the loch and beyond to the iconic Schiehallion.

This was taken a week or so ago whilst visiting Loch Muick. I'm not exactly sure of the history but I think Queen Victoria lived here after Prince Albert died. Anyway I will find out a little more as I'm to photograph a wedding here at the beginning of August and I have to say I was absolutely blown away by all the scenery. So I must say I'm really rather looking forward to doing this wedding! It was rather windy and horrible when we visited and we went into a little bothy where there were a group of RAF on exercise. I was a little freaked out especially as the bothy door kept opening on it's own. I felt like a right big jessy!

My MAC has been away in hospital and I only just got it back yesterday and I have so much to catch up on! I also started working on this last night and once again I managed to delete it by accident so it was a diazepam and off to bed!

A stained glass window designed by Powell Brothers Ltd. of Leeds, England to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.

In 1912, to protect the window from damage during the construction of the Legislative Library, the window was dismantled and placed in the cellar for safe-keeping.

The window was then forgotten (there was that rather distracting Great War that started up) and it wasn't rediscovered until 62 years later. The window was restored and remounted in 1975. The original arched space for this window had used for another stained glass window, so it was placed in this square opening.

It's also interesting to note that the window shows British Columbia's original coat-of-arms, with the setting sun above the Union Jack. When the Queen's representative's saw this they promptly informed the B.C. government that "the sun will NEVER set on the British Empire" and that our coat-of-arms would need to be corrected. Ever since, the setting sun has appeared below the Union Jack in our coat-of-arms.
