The work of AOR, Inc. (Agency OFF Record was named Best of Show in a recent Business Marketing Awards show. Their creation, a comprehensive Education Kit designed for Quark, was successfully used to get design school teachers to add QuarkXpress software to their teaching curriculum. AOR, Inc. is a mutant hybrid of ad agency, interactive shop and design boutique based in Denver, CO.

Found this old magic stuff beside Nina's workstation at her workplace. We've never used QuarkXPress before but we know its some ancient stuff!

在一本雜誌裡，美術編輯亦扮演了重要角色，圖版大小編排得宜，讓讀者在優美的畫面中，輕鬆的閱讀。
而美術編輯的工作就是把一堆資料做有系統的視覺規劃設計，例如：版面架構、視覺動線、icon設計、文字的變化或是影像合成、修圖...當然編排並非只是一般大眾性的認為把圖和文字放上去而已，必須顧慮到很多因素！

對於美編的基本要求
一般美編要熟悉的電腦有PC、MAC兩種。而專業繪圖、排版軟體，除了原有的：QuarkXPress、Pagemaker、Indesign、 Photoshop、illustrator...等等，市場上也不斷推出新的替代軟體，讓美編的作業更順手、設計更多元化，而光是需要不斷更新新系統、學習新軟體，就知道美編的腦容量有多大了...除了專業的軟體使用，身為美編必須不斷充實新知、吸收新技術，敏銳的色彩感應，掌握流行的嗅覺...對於版面的架構、平衡、美感、設計感都要有過人的見解...養成快速敏捷的圖像反應，最好是成為一個“快手“！
美編工作通常壓力滿大的(單元好還要更好的一改二改三改，廣告AE的奪命連環追，還有面對所謂的最後「截稿日」)如果把「截稿日」比喻成“戰場“那們美編就是遊走在生與死的臨界點，就是所謂的“邊緣人“，死了很多次，當書印刷後又馬上活過來。因此當一個美編，面對每個單元、每一次的案子、每本書，都要能全力以赴，把壓力轉換成動力的能耐，把不合理的要求合理化之外，最重要的是要比正常人更能抗壓，微笑的面對挫折和考驗。

Father Jacques Marquette, French-born missionary of the Jesuit order, and Louis Jolliet, Canadian explorer and mapmaker, were the first Europeans to view the land on which the City of Chicago was to stand. Returning with five other Europeans from exploration of the Mississippi River, Marquette and Jolliet struck out alone and found a large Indian village near the present city of Ottawa. Guided by friendly Indians in the Fall of 1673, the two men first traversed the region that is now Chicago.

1803-1812 The First Fort Dearborn
It was not until 1803 that the War Department ordered the construction of a fort at the mouth of the river. Troops arrived in the area on August 17 and began building shelters and a stockade. A year later, Fort Dearborn, named in honor of the Secretary of War, was completed.
For some years the garrison was peaceful and traders flourished. However, the outbreak of the War of 1812 with Great Britain moved the government to order the evacuation of the fort. The threatening attitude of the Indians led the entire population of the settlement to follow the garrison. After leaving the fort, the evacuees were attacked by Indians and many of the party were massacred and the fort was destroyed.
In 1816 the fort was rebuilt and was thereafter occupied by United States troops for twenty-one years. In 1837 it was abandoned but the fort stood until 1856.

I created this piece of research about Fumi Nakamura using QuarkXpress. Looking at different magazines I looked for inspiration on how to make my research and other desktop published work looking imaginative and professional. I wrote about this artist because of her attention to detail and how she uses white space nicely to create uncut illustrations that are just beautiful and so creative.
