Dry harvested cranberries goes through a bounceboard to help determine whether they are fit to be packaged as fresh fruit at the Ocean Spray plant in Middleboro. If a cranberry bounces over the top 4 boards on the bounceboard, it will drop onto the conveyor belt at left which will take the cranberries to the next quality control step before it is packaged. If cranberries bounce over the bottom three boards, the berries will go onto the line for the concentrate or processed fruit line that is mostly from wet harvested cranberries. If the berries cannot bounce over the top of any of the boards, it will go to the waste line. The bounceboard was patented in 1923. Gatehouse Media photo 2005
